Ted shrugged again. "I don't know." He gave her his boyish grin. "They're not telling me anything." He actually laughed, though, as he remembered the interaction he had with Roland earlier. "You know, when I told him I was bringing him here, he fought me on it. Said it wasn't how he wanted to come back. I told him to shove it." It was still a vaguely amusing image, Roland bleeding all over the place and still worried about his heroic return. Just like him. Angelique shook her head. "He really is a piece of work, isn't he?" she said. How anyone could manage to be so simultaneously likeable and infuriating was completely beyond her. The rest of the Ferreras were all pretty quiet, but then there was Roland, all brashness and ego. Suddenly spotting a familiar face, she stood up and walked up to Dr. Kelly. "So, is Roland Ferrera fit for visitors yet?" she demanded without preamble.

"My favorite woman," Chase said, giving the Head Auror a charming smile. "You'll strike me down for this, I'm sure, but I actually gave him a reprieve. He's fine, completely healthy, but he's with Riley Neves right now."
She looked fit to be tied, he thought, and frowned. "And she's waiting for Dr. Kenyon to let her know how she's doing, because we really don't know yet."

Angelique shook her head. "I'm glad he's so healthy, because I'm going to kill him," she mumbled, shaking her head.
"Do I have to have permission from Dr. Kenyon to see Riley, then? I need to talk to them both anyway, and I might as well do it at the same time."

Chase frowned deeper, but quickly decided that he needed to stop letting those two tug at his soft spot.
"Yes, you need her permission. As I understand it, Riley's supposed to rest, and I'm not sure Dr. Kenyon would want her being interrogated at the moment. But take it up with her, and if she gives you the okay, then I okay you seeing Roland." He glanced down the hall. "Speak of the devil..." he smiled as Lydia was walking towards them.

Lydia groaned inwardly when she recognized Angelique St. Clare. It was nothing personal against the woman, but she knew exactly what this was about. And she knew it ws just the beginning of the onslaught they were about to face with Roland's return.
"Hi, Chase," she said tiredly. "Let me guess... Ms. St. Clare would like to know if she can speak with the happy couple?"

Chase recognized that look on Lydia's face, and he gave her a small, discreet shrug. "You guessed it. But we both knew to expect this. Angelique's just going to be the first of many."
He was surprised the family wasn't here yet, and wondered briefly if anyone had told them yet. If not, he would have Adrienne get ahold of them soon. For now, they just needed to make sure that everyone was okay.

Angelique held up her hands. "Look... I don't want to upset Riley in her condition," she said quickly. "All I want to do is find out what the hell is going on. It's not every day that a dead man turns up alive again. I'll even go easy on Roland, if I have to... I just need to talk to them."

Lydia hesitated a minute. The effects of the potion she had given Riley should relax her to the point where she wouldn't be too upset. And Roland's presence seemed to calm her like nothing else could. She was still concerned about the baby, but maybe it was best to get the interrogations over with.
"OK, look. Ten minutes," she said. "And don't raise your voice.... try to keep calm. Her situation is still delicate. I don't want her to get upset."

Angelique nodded. "OK, I'll stay calm. I just.... I need to know what's going on. Thanks, Dr. Kenyon."
She sighed heavily and turned to Ted. "Can you stay here and run interference for Roland's family, when they get here? I suspect Hayden will be back with them any minute now, and I want to talk to him before they get here."
She didn't wait for Ted's answer before she began to follow behind Lydia.

"No, you needed to come here. You were banged up worse than me." Riley shook her head. "Actually, your apartment is still yours." She sighed, dropping her eyes from his. She may as well tell him. "I've been... well, your family hasn't taken this as well as I told you that have. Mathieu's been living in your apartment for a few weeks now. I'm sure he'll be glad to give it back to you, though." "My injuries were nothing," he protested stubbornly. "All superficial. They looked worse than they were, I assure you." He really had been extraordinarily lucky. It could have been much worse... and last time, it was. Yes, he'd lost some blood. And the dislocated elbow was certainly painful. Still, it was not nearly as bad as he'd feared. She quickly drew his attention away from all thoughts of the fight, however, when she mentioned that his father was staying at his apartment. His jaw dropped slightly, and he looked at her worriedly. "Wait... my dad left my mum? Why?"

Riley shook her head. "I don't know, really. Maybe it was just so that we wouldn't have to get rid of your apartment. You'll have to talk to them about it. I just know that your dad's been really quiet lately, and he's... he's been hard to talk to."
She didn't mention what she thought was a breakthrough the other day, and she rubbed her eyes. "They'll be fine though, now that you're back. Everyone will be fine."

No one likes to hear that their parents are having trouble. And for someone like Roland, for whom family was everything, the idea that his parents were not living together right now set off alarm bells in his head. And of course, what worried him most was the possibility that he was the cause of it.
"I hope so," he said softly. "I... I know why you didn't tell me about any of this, but... I hate the idea that I hurt them, when I was only trying to protect them. How are the kids? Do you know?"

Riley sighed and just looked at him. Yeah, she knew about his siblings, and his cousin Christine.
"Can we have this conversation later?" she asked, which she knew would be answer enough for him, and added, "When I'm not quite as worried about our kid?"
She shouldn't have said anything to him about it. But she didn't want to explain everyone's grief while they were in the hospital, and she still had her own things to worry about.

He sighed softly. He didn't like the sound of that, but he wasn't going to press it. His family would likely be there any moment, and there was no sense in involving Riley in it any further. He was here to take over now, she didn't need to worry about this. She had enough to worry about.
"It's OK. I'm sure I'll hear about it soon enough anyway," he said sadly. He reached over and placed his hand on her stomach, wincing very slightly as the injured elbow protested painfully. "It's going to be all right. It has to be."
He followed this statement with a kiss, and was still in the middle of the kiss when the door swung open.

Angelique had been led to Riley's room by Lydia, and she pushed the door open briskly. She probably should not have been surprised to see them in the middle of a kiss, but she was. She leaned against the doorframe, shaking her head as she waited for one of them to come up for air.
"Well, things have certainly changed between you two. Last time I saw you together, you were fighting like cats and dogs."

Riley broke the kiss the instant she heard the door open, and her cheeks flushed when her eyes landed on Angelique. It dawned on her again just how much trouble they were probably going to be in for this. She sent a silent prayer up that she'd at least get to keep her job when this was all over.
"Angelique," she said, pulling herself to sit up, forgetting that she shouldn't. At least not until Lydia came back. "I can explain... everything."

At the sound of Angelique's voice, Roland pulled away quickly and attempted to sit up. This was a bit difficult, since he was leaning against Riley and had his good arm around her waist. He tried to balance himself up on his good elbow, but this sent a ripple of pain up his arm. He had a feeling that was going to be bothering him for a whille.
"Riley, you lie down," he said gently. "I'll do the explaining. This was my doing."
He looked at Angelique, flashing her one of his crooked grins. "Hey, Angelique. Good to see you again."

Angelique shook her head. "You really are unbelieveable," she said.
She sighed and moved over to sit down next to the bed. "Your little lopsided grin isn't going to get you out of this, you know. I'm glad you're alive and well, but... where the hell have you been? You have a lot of explaining to do, and I hope you have a good reason why I shouldn't fire you for this."

Roland sighed and allowed the smile to slip from his face. He expected this, of course. But he had also hoped for something different. As arrogant as it sounded, he had sort of expected and hoped for a hero's welcome.
"OK, before I say anything, I want to point out that Riley was against the plan from the beginning and tried to talk me out of it. The only reason she ended up taking part in it with me was to keep me out of trouble. But this whole idea was mine. If you're going to get mad at someone, it should be me, and not her."

Riley rolled her eyes at this.
"I still willingly took part," she said softly, though she listened to Roland and lay back, but most because she felt the cramps start up again when she was sitting up. If she was bedridden for the next seven months, she was going to be so pissed.
"We wanted to tell you, and looking back, we should have. But we knew you'd want to do everything by the book, like I wanted to do... but by the book wasn't going to work this time."
