Karl spent the entire night guarding the perimeter. A few hours before the moon set, he caught a small rabbit that had wandered too close to him, and brought it to the girls, hoping that they could get the injured pup to eat. Unfortunately, she didn't wake, and Karl ended up eating most of the rabbit himself. As the moon set, Karl curled up and waited for the transformation. Once he had changed back into his human form, he walked over to the girls and the pup, and tried to wake them.

Coda opened her eyes afraid if she moved she'd still hurt, she noticed she was surrounded by people she didn't know. She figured they must have been the ones that helped her during the night.

"Hey, you're waking up," Karl said, sitting down next to her. "How you feelin'? Them wolves really gave you quite a beating last night. What'd they attack you for? Regular wolves don't normally attack werewolves."

Coda sat up wincing. "That was Goss and his pack. He has always tried to kill me because his brother Sauris let me in his pack. Goss doesn't like me because I am human. I normally have Tis and Sauris looking after me but they must have moved to a different cave." She didn't mention Alastor or Athena because she didn't want to put them in danger by going back.

"So, you live with a wolf pack? No other humans?" Karl was surprised. He'd never heard of such a thing happening before. "Maybe we should go looking for 'em..."

Coda looked down and sighed. "I did live with humans but with Goss always after me it's too dangerous for me to be around them. I don't want them to get hurt, one of them was the first human I met."

Skye sat up and rubbed her eyes. Looking at the girl, she said, "Well, it looks like you weren't too badly hurt, after all. But we should take you to the river to clean off those scratches." She tilted her head. "I've met you before, haven't I? You were the girl I was supposed to help. But the human was there... You went with him."

Coda looked up at the girl that spoke. "Yes, but I can't go back... it's too dangerous. Like I told him Goss is always after me. I'm afraid that he and his pack might hurt them."

Skye frowned. "It would be very unusual for wolves to go into town, much less a human's house. But I understand wanting to protect them. But you cannot stay out here by yourself. Where can we take you?"

"You don't know Goss like I do. He'll do anything to get to me." Coda rubbed her eyes. "He will hurt anyone I care about, he'll hurt Alastor or Athena or their family." She covered her face as tears started to fall down her cheeks.

"But surely they can protect you? They know magic, right? Usually, if they know magic, they can set up protective spells around the house that would keep out intruders. Zander and Chloe did that at our house." Skye realized then that she didn't know the girl's name. "What is your name? I am called Skye, and this is Karl and Chloe."

"Do they have those little sticks that make things happen?" Skye said. "I can't do it... I used to be able to do magic, a long time ago, but I didn't learn enough before I was bitten. But they wave a little stick and things happen." She looked at Chloe, who was still sleeping. "Chloe can do magic. You've really been away from everyone, haven't you, Coda?"

"Well, they probably could protect you if they have those," said Skye. "Or you could come with us to where our pack lives. We live at Chloe's house. Or would you rather just find the other wolf pack? It's your choice."

"I don't know." Coda truly hadn't thought about what would happen if she was found. She didn't want anyone to get hurt because of her.

"Well, how about this?" Skye said. "Let's take you to the river and get you cleaned up first. Karl, maybe you can find our clothes? Then we'll take you to get something to eat at Chloe's house. Chloe always makes eggs after the full moon. And you can decide what you want to do from there."

Karl nodded. "I remember where we left our clothes. And Chloe's stick-thing. You go take care of those wounds, I'll get our clothes and wake up Chloe." He smiled as he looked down at her; she looked so pretty when she slept.

Skye led the way to the river, walking in her slow, graceful way. "It was lucky for you that we were nearby," she said. "You should not be alone during the full moon again, no matter where you decide to go."
