"Sometimes they are words that another person cannot help but say." he smiled, lord knew he sounded like an idiot in his own mind and yet it was like he said, there were somethings he couldn't help but say to her.

Of course there were words that she couldn't help but say. Ophelia's face appeared in her mind again and the words she told her filled her ears again. Leave it to her sister to make herself known in her head at a moment like this. The words that Fee told her she should say could make or break her. If those specific words were spoken, then one of two things could happen, acception or rejection. Allaire knew that she didn't want to be the girl in the story who never said anything and as a result he left, only to return awhile later to find that she had changed. She didn't want to be that, yet she wasn't sure if she wanted to say anything because of the chance that he could just say no, or just sit there and not say anything. Allaire knew that either of those actions would cause her great embarrassment and afterword she would avoid him all the time. Then of course, there was that slim chance that it could be the complete opposite.
She was fighting that inner argument, and it was evident on her face that she was thinking something. Allaire could be blunt when she wanted to be, and she could just say it. It was just a few simple words right? That's all.
Sitting up, Allaire sat the book off to the side and clasped her hands together. She looked away from him to her hands. "Erm, Ashton, there's something that I would like to tell you, but I wouldn't want to it affect our friendship."

He didn't think much would interrupt their friendship, he wasn't going to let it, at least not until he was prepared to move forward in his pursuit of something deeper than friendship. Even then he wasn't sure what havoc he was signing up for but something in her eyes drew him inexplainably to her and he was a damned man.
"You don't have to worry about that Allaire." he said taking her hand.

She bit the inside of her cheek when he took her hand. That made her a little more nervous, yet a little more calm at the same time because he assured her it wouldn't affect their friendship.
Allaire couldn't quite meet Ashton's eyes at first. She kept looking down at her, well their, hands. "I um, I think that," she started. Stop delaying and just say it! "I think that I'm starting, well I shouldn't really say starting, but I like you." Her last words were a little shaky, but she was finally able to meet his eyes.

Something funny twisted in Ashton's gut when she shakily admitted her feelings. Could it possibly be that she was still so innocent. She was young admittedly, but she was a slytherin. She was from a prominent family, shouldn't she have more guile? She should have known how to tease him into oblivion, and yet what else could he have expected from forthright and direct Allaire?
He hadn't meant to remain silent so long, her innocence startled him and caused him to pull back, but only for a moment before he relaxed a bit, he knew already that he wasn't backing down because she was innocent, he had already accepted the consequences of getting involved with her and he wasn't going to second guess himself.
"That's going to affect our friendship Allaire..." he said quietly. "Because I quite like you too, and I think we could be a good deal more than just friends."

The silence scared her a little. It could be a good thing, but yet Allaire wasn't so sure. Sometimes, the silence was comfortable but this, this made her more nervous than she ever had been. She was prepared to run away if she had to.
It seemed like she was frozen for a moment, until he relaxed again. Her mind was telling her to just go, it had been a little long for an answer. Her body wasn't moving because part of her wanted some kind of answer. Even if it was that he didn't think that it was such a good thing, she still wanted to hear something.
At the beginning of his words, Allaire's expression fell a little but then her face went hot. She didn't turn into a giggling girl as he finished but an innocent like smile did show itself. Allaire wasn't sure what kind of response was supposed to follow, but she never did do things by the correct way all the time.
"Really," was the only thing that would come out. As for the teasing, Allaire wasn't sure how to do that exactly. She did share the same idea as Ophelia, if you like someone you should tell them. Of course, she had learned that sometimes not being direct and to the point could lead to the complete opposite of what you want. She found it easier to be to the point, the majority of the time anyway.

He however didn't feel any of the awkwardness that she might have, instead he took the ball firmly in his court and brought her closer to him, "Really." he whispered against her temple. As if it weren't obvious in the way they were sitting, or the growing closeness between them. He kissed her brow then settled back, willing to go slowly for now at least.

Her eyes closed for a moment whenever kissed her brow. Allaire bit the inside of her cheek to keep from letting out a giggle. She didn't think that it would be right if she let out a girlish giggle. Maybe she would let it out whenever she returned to her room.
She did let the smile on her face widen just slightly. Allaire had no idea what she was getting herself into. She wasn't even sure what she was supposed to do, but she didn't have a problem with making it up as she went.
"I wasn't actually intending on telling you that yet, but I thought that I should go ahead and tell you before my sister says anything." Allaire gave a roll of her eyes. Knowing Ophelia, she would probably say something. She didn't give a second thought to admitting that she had talked about him. "I didn't think that what I was really going to say, or ask, would have been proper, but it doesn't matter. Do you want to go to the ball with me?"

He chuckled slightly, " You don't play games do you?" he asked more of himself than of her, "Yes Allaire I'd love to." he said smiling to himself, well she had taken that problem out of his hands. He wanted to go to the dance with her and now he didn't even have to ask her.
Her straight forward manner was refreshing certainly

Allaire looked at Ashton curiously, then gave him a bright smile. "I'm glad that you agree to go. It saves me from going up to the boys dorms and dragging you out and forcing you to go with me anyway. After all, Ophelia pretty much forced me to agree to go and I knew that I probably wouldn't really talk to anyone because she would be dancing with her date. I didn't want to be stuck hanging around my brother and Kassia all night, not that I have a problem with them. I just wouldn't want them to think they didn't have to leave me because I would have been there alone." Naturally, she was teasing him and her expression said so.

He raised an eyebrow at her teasing but it ended in a smile, "I don't know if my being there will make them leave early at all." he said teasingly with her, although he was partially serious, he doubted any big brother would want to leave his sister with any guy, especially a guy like him.

"Well, it will give me a good excuse not to be around them all night and not be bored." That part contained no teasing. As much as Allaire loved her family, she didn't like to be around them all the time. She saw her sisters every day, and being around Jadon didn't really matter, although she knew that three was a crowd. She didn't want her brother feeling like he had to entertain two people at once.
"And we'll just have fun."

"Yes, definitely the last part." he said reassuringly his hand now moving in a routine manner up and down her arm. It was an unconscious gesture of tenderness, and an unbidden thought penetrated his cynical mind, he realized he was quite content, simply sitting there with her in his arms, nothing really could bother him in that moment. It was a chilling thought.

Allaire's smile was still lightly fixated on her face as she rested her head on his shoulder. It didn't feel awkward. She thought she remembered seeing Edgar Allen Poe up on the shelf but she didn't want to move, even to pull out her wand.
"I'm looking forward to it." The dance was probably one of the first things that she was really looking forward to. At first, the dance didn't really seem all that intriging and inviting when Ophelia at first practically demanded that she was going. Allaire had really been planning on just sitting around the common room, or even her dorm room, and reading; however, she was glad that things turned around.

He was too he realized and shuddered at the thought of Ashton Lane excited over a social event. He sighed and stopped battling internaly, he could never tell her however what all was bothering him so he just smiled. "I'm looking forward to it too." he told her, he knew she would like to hear it, but it was the first time in a long time he was beginning to wish he was someone other than himself. He didn't like that weakness in him, and even before their courtship had really begun he realized she deserved better than him.

"Good," she answered with a happy tone. Allaire wouldn't want to make him go to something that he didn't want to go to but she felt sure if he didn't want to go somewhere, he'd tell her. Being straightforward was a quality that she liked. She didn't want to have to just beat around the bush because that might take to long and the opportunity might pass by.
"As much as I don't want to move, its getting late," she said tilting her head upwards.

He glanced at his pocket watch and sighed, "I believe you're right." he said a little despondently but he was amused as well. All in all it had been a very productive evening, he was closer to his goal than he originally realized.
"Well then M'lady, may I escort you to your chambers?" he asked all suaveness.

His voice caused Allaire to laugh softly. "Yes kind Sir," came her response. "I suppose I could let you escort me back. After all, tis a long way back." Her smile widened teasingly. "And without company, it could feel twice the actual distance." Allaire slowly moved from the position she was sitting in so she could stand up. Once standing, she stretched quickly.
Tonight had been productive, but she was not seeing it in Ashton's point of view. It was productive to her because she finally found the answer to what had been bothering her.

He expelled a breath when she stretched, the male part of his brain completely freezing over a pretty girl. He blinked, she was too young to be conscious of such a sensuous action and suddenly he felt like a perverted old man. He muttered a curse under his breath but quickly got control of himself and stood up behind her offering her his arm to lead them back to the common room.
"Then I am duty bound, and it shall be my pleasure."

Allaire didn't pay any attention to him when she quickly stretched. She didn't have a second thought of what she had done and a smile fixated itself again on her face as he offered his arm.
Taking his arm, Allaire took another glance around the room. "I'll have to come back here and picture the same place sometime," she said looking back to him. "And I appreciate you being a gentleman." Allaire always tried her best to see the good in everyone. Sure she didn't know everything to know about him, she only knew what he let her but if he told her that he wasn't a good guy, Allaire would beg to differ.
