Cadence smiled a little more brightly, and just barely refrained from saying, "I know." Instead, she lowered her eyes modestly and simply said, "Thank you. You look nice, too."
She didn't really want to linger here for long, so she held out her hand for him to take it. The sooner they got to the ball, the sooner she could send him off to get her some punch while she talked with her friends.

Severus opened the doors of the Grand ball room, It was with a little too much of a push or too much of a flourish and they both opened wider than they really needed to be open. He felt like he was caught doing something wrong, standing there with Natalie's hand in his in the middle of the wide doors looking into the large ballroom. Standing awkwardly for a moment he cleared his throat and turned to Natalie. "Shall we?" a small smile playing on his lips, hiding to most everyone else that he was nervous. He felt the flutter of pride and happiness in his chest and his smile quirked a bit higher. He was happy to have Natalie as his 'date', proud of the fact that she liked him and thrilled to be in a ball where he thought he would never go with anyone. The decor was beautiful, like a palace made of ice. Even Natalie couldn't help but be impressed by it. The music hadn't started yet, and Natalie wasn't quite what to do, if not dance. "Everyone looks very nice," she commented idly. "I'm glad to be here with you, I'm sure I'd be terrified if you weren't with me."

Allaire had gotten wrapped up in another book again while she had waited for Lani, Justine, Ophelia, and Kassia to finish. Once Ophelia had left, Allaire looked in the mirror again. Since when did she really care about her appearance? Usually, she only looked in the mirror once or maybe twice and that was it. Tonight, she had mentally counted three times. Sighing, Allaire left her book on Ophelia's bed. She would come back and get it before she went to sleep. Slowly, she made her way to the stairs. Her dress didn't quite reach the floor, nor did it poof out. The dress just flowed and moved whenever she moved. Allaire was thankful Fee didn't hand her something huge. Allaire wasn't accustomed to wearing heels, but the small ones she borrowed from Kassia fit fairly well and were pretty easy to walk in. Reaching the stairs, she took in a deep breath and started down them to the common room. Ashton was waiting for her at the foot of the stairs, nervous in his own right. As he heard Allaire's brother was going to be there which didn't exactly calm his nerves any. Still as he glanced upward a vision caught his eye and he wasn't exactly ready for the hit. His breath held and he suddenly diddn't care if he ever took another breath again, this moment would be worth the end of his days. "My God..." he could feel his heart pounding as his knuckles whitened gripping the banister.

"Glad you're not going to try and talk me out of that one." Maybe he would just because Lance was his twin, but then maybe he would be too occupied to really say anything. Arriving where the other students were gathering, Josh left his arm around Eve. "Well, looks like we're not late for anything," he commented. Grinning down at her, Josh quickly spun her around before returning his arm to her waist. "Just testing you is all." She twirled with him a grin on her face as a feminine laugh escaped her lips. When her eyes trailed up to his her look was so full of love, if she noticed anything or anyone else her eyes didn't give her away. In fact there could have been a million people in the ballroom and she wouldn't have noticed. Finally she took a look around and her heart pounded, " It's all so wonderful."

He didn't see the fact that he was pretty much manipulated to ask her to the dance just so she could go. He just thought that he was helping her out and preventing her from being upset about not going. Being the nice boy he was, he took her hand and started toward the ball.

As she stopped looking down to make sure she hit every step and didn't tumble down the stairs, her eyes found Ashton. It felt like her heart dropped through her stomach and a smile started to appear on her face. Allaire stopped when there was a step in between them. "Hi," she greeted. She wanted to reach up and make sure that her hair was still secure but she forced her hand to stay by her side. She took in his appearance and her smile grew a little wider. "Don't you look handsome," she said with a joking, yet honest tone.

Before Nolan could answer his friend, there was a banging on the door. It figured that Julia didn't have the patience to wait for him. Then again, she wouldn't be Julia, otherwise. He rolled his eyes, having just barely slipped into his dress robes. Unlike Jeremy, he was taking his time and being very carefree about the process. It was just a dance, afterall. "I guess that's a yes," he said to Jeremy, going to the door and opening it. He gave Julia a wide smile. "You always steal my breath away when you get all dolled up, Ju." "Well, aren't you a charmer," Julia laughed. "How are you two comming along? Almost ready," she asked, peeking in the door. "Hey Jeremy," Julia waved. "Hey, Jules," Jeremy said, smiling. He stood up and went over to kiss her hand. "You look gorgeous. But I think this is my cue... I'd better go pick up Alenna. She'll kill me if I leave her standing around waiting for me. I'll see you guys down there later, OK?" He straightened his dress robes one last time, then he was out the door and on the way to the Ravenclaw common room. His knees were knocking the whole time, but he tried not to let it show.

By the time she reached him he had recovered. It wasn't an easy feat, Allaire in her finery stole his breath away, the sheer wonder of her took his breath away, preventing him from thinking straight. He decided however that he needed all of his wits about him in order to prevent making a fool of himself, he closed the gap between them and pressed a gentle kiss against her lips.
His lips still against hers he whispered warmly, "You're beautiful."

The gentle kiss made her go warm. After he pulled away just slightly so he could speak, Allaire opened her eyes and a smile was shown in them. "Thank you." Her cheeks turned a brighter pink. She could have said some witty smart remark about his compliment but the words weren't coming off her tongue.
Being brave, Allaire leaned in the rest of the very small distance and gave him a gentle kiss of her own. She pulled away and smiled. At the moment, she was the same height as he was since she was still on the stairs. Her hands were resting on his shoulders. "You know, I don't think it has ever taken me this long to get ready," she said with a quiet laugh. "Although, it still didn't take me as long as the other girls. I did finally start on Hamlet however."

"You were well worth the wait...I believe I would have waited much much longer, and had I known this was the result, I would have waited forever." the charming words slipped from his lips directly from his heart and it startled him. He might have said charming things before, but never had he really meant them...now he was afraid he might.

It was just a few simple things Allaire did. Just added a little bit of kohl to her eyes, curled her hair and pulled half of it back, and a little pink color to her cheeks. Then of course was the dress that Ophelia let her borrow but that was it.
Her cheeks were still the brightened color and it wasn't just the light blush she applied earlier. "You're quite the charmer Mr. Lane," she said smiling. "I wouldn't have kept you waiting forever unless I had gotten too wrapped up in my book."

He chuckled, the serious intimate mood falling to the side, it wasn't that he wasn't still intimate but rather he was amazed, she could take him from amazement, to desire, to humor in less than a minute and he was indeed baffled by it all. " That wouldn't have surprised me really...I'm sure a book is much more interesting than myself."

"Now that's nonsense. You are actually far more interesting than a book," she admitted easily. A book couldn't make her feel all kinds of different things at once. "If I had to choose between the two, I think I would chose you. After all, a book only lasts so long then you have to put it down and pick up another one and begin all over again. You on the other hand, go longer than just a book. And you are quite more entertaining I think." Allaire said all of that with a matter-of-fact tone. "And by that I mean with a book you can flip ahead and see what happens, but with you, you can't do that. That huge difference right there is what is far more exciting."

He couldn't stop his chuckles now and put his arm around her, "You're so priceless." he said shaking his head. Then he formally gave her his arm, "It would be my honor M'lady." he said with an adopted serious mien, he still wore his gentle smile that said he adored her.

Allaire let out a quite laugh and then extended her arm out to take his arm. "Thank you kind Sir," she said with a playful formal-like tone. So far everything was enjoyable. Of course she didn't have any doubt that it wouldn't be.
She let him led her out of the common room. The gentle smile that was on his face would always make her feel like she was pretty special.

A familiar voice sounded in her ear and she gasped before turning around, then she gasped again, "Vic!" there was no hesitation in hurling herself into his arms despite her poised appearance. She looked so much the proper lady but it was also apparent that she was growing up into quite a woman. Stepping back from him she asked excitedly, "What are you doing here?" He laughed and spun Lilac around when she lept into his arms. "Missed you took," he chuckled as he set her back down. He got a better look at her. "Wow, you're growing up," Vic said a little shocked. He'd known the Drakes his entire life, and it always shocked him when he noticed that they were growing up. "I heard about the Ball and Ethan mentioned in passing that you didn't have a date," Vic reached out and kissed the back of Lilac's hand, very gentleman-like. "And we couldn't have that, could we?"

She laughed right along with him. She didn't feel as if she were growing up, well part of her felt older than any other child her age, but the fact was she longed for a childhood. The man in front of her, along with her brother, saw that she had one, and for that she loved them both very dearly.
"I'm so glad you came." she said brightly.

His knees were knocking the whole time, but he tried not to let it show. Alenna tugged on a random curl in her hair as she waited outside the Ravenclaw common room. She had taken her time getting dressed, smiling at her reflection when she was done. A baby blue dress hung down to the floor, swaying around her feet. She felt pretty, which was fun, but nothing would ever beat the day she and Jeremy were covered in mud the other afternoon. Alenna saw him comming toward the common room and smiled. "Well don't you look dashing," she smiled and walked toward him. She leaned in and kissed him gently. "Happy new Year."

Amandine's favorite color was blue. And thats what she had chosen, a deep royal blue, for her dress that night. It was a shorter dreww, only going to her knees, and her usually straight blonde hair was in soft curls. "Okay, I'm ready," she said to herself before leaving the dormatory to meet Dillon. She was glad Jamie hadn't scared the poor boy off.

Sheena left the common room early, not wanting to run into any of her family members. She had agreed to go with Xavier Scotts to the Yule Ball, and though Sheena was always the one in the family who was more outgoing and acted more outrageously, that fact she was going with a Slytherin was bound to even make Liam's blood boil. And Sheena was rather excited by this.
She waited down in the entrance hall for Xavier, standing away from everyone else, but not far enough to look like some loner.
