"You're very welcome." Jonsey nodded, giving her a charming smile. He assumed that this meant she was just waiting for her date down here. If Jonesy had had a date, he would have picked her up by her common room, it seemed more gentlemanly than just making her wait.
"I'm flying solo tonight," Jonesy said. It wasn't that he couldn't get a date, really. He just thought it would be more fun with out, he'd hang out with friends and just party. Seeing her though, he was beginning to regret not having his own beautiful woman with him tonight.
"I think you have me at a disadvantage," Jonsey said, crossing his arms. "You now know my name, but I don't know yours."

Lyla noticed Lyra right away and gave her a small wave. Ever since the attack and their mutual fear for her brother she had accepted Lyra and allowed herself to like the girl. "Merlin you look so pretty." she said in her uninhibited way. Lyra did look stunning after all, and womanly too, in a way that Lyla was sure she herself would never be able to pull off. Well maybe... if she was a really good girl. She grinned, " Lyra this is Victor Alvarado." she said introducing Vic to her brother's date. Vic saw the girl enter the hall graciously and wasn't at all surprised that this girl was Ethan's date. "Lyra," Vic took her hand politely "A pleasure, please call me Vic." He said, also nudging Lilac a little. She was always so formal, but he thought it was endearing, especially when Lyla was only 14.

"Oh, yea, that makes sence," Nick chuckled. They stood together patiently, chatting lightly and watching the room fill up. "Were you planning on meeting up with anyone here?" nick remembered. he wasn't, but his sister had mentioned that Roxanna may want to hang out with her friends as well that evening, and he had forgotton to ask until now. Roxanna nodded, smiling. "Yeah, I think some of my friends are going to be here, but I don't see anyone yet." She said, and looked around quickly. It wasn't that she wanted to get away from Nick, that's not what she wanted. She mainly wanted to see her friends dressed up. She wasn't used to seeing her friends like that. She turned back to Nick and smiled. "I wouldn't spend too much time with them, anyway. It wouldn't be fair to you." She smiled.

Savannah had been scanning the crowds in search of Liam. He was a quiet boy, and he made her seem a regular chatterbox. It actually still amazed Savannah that he'd even asked her to go to the ball. It might have been the most she'd ever heard him say. At the sound of Cameron's voice, she turned, momentarily startled. Then the ice princess mask fell back down across her features as she looked at him in muggle clothes. Curse her wicked mind for noticing how well the muggle clothes seemed to fit his body. "Cameron," she said, greeting him coolly. "Thank you, it's very kind of you to say. You look... very handsome." Her tone might have seemed judgemental, especially with the slight pause. But despite the fact that he was not wearing dress robes, the honest truth was that he did look very handsome. His date would be a lucky woman. Cameron faltered slightly, though it didn't show on his face. She was judging him, and suddenly, he felt like she was looking down on him. Like always. He shrugged, trying to let this roll of his back. "I try," he teased, as if he knew he looked good. But in that moment, he felt very much like a poor boy from the wrong side of the tracks trying to impress a well bred princess. Why did he even bother? He knew Savannah disliked him, and why should anything have changed since that night by the piano? "Well, I just wanted to say hello," he told her. "And I hope whoever you're waiting for doesn't keep you. Tell Elliot I'm looking for him, will you?"

Savannah felt an acute stab of disappointment when he started to walk away. Almost irrationally, she wanted him to stay and tease her or just tell her that she looked pretty. Never mind that he'd already done that. She wanted to hear it again.
Biting down on her bottom lip, she hesitated for a minute, then called out to him, "Cameron, wait."
She wasn't actually sure what she would say if he walked back over to her, but she just couldn't let him leave just yet.

Cameron stopped in his tracks, his hands in the pockets of his muggle slacks, and he turned to look at her. Where he normally wore a bright grin, his smile was gone, and he just looked at her, eyebrows slightly raised, and his shoulders came up a bit.
"What?"
As in, what could she want to say to him? Even he realized he was being a bit weird about this, but the way she had looked at him... it was harsh, and he didn't think she had a right to look at him like he was beneath her. She had less of a right to actually make him feel that way. He'd only wanted to tell her how very pretty she looked tonight.

Something about the abruptness of his question and the look on his face as he turned back to face her made her nervous. Her throat went dry, and she licked her lips uncertainly as she looked at him. In that moment, there were a thousand things she wanted to say to him, but she couldn't find the words. Most of all, she wanted to ask him if he would be willing to dance with her tonight. But she couldn't ask that.... it wasn't proper for a girl to ask a boy to dance.
"I.... I was merely wondering if your love of music extended to dancing as well," she asked haltingly.

"What?" He repeated dumbly, confused. Her question was just unexpected, and he shrugged. "Not really. I don't dance that well."
His answer was softer, quieter as though he was trying to keep everyone else from hearing him talk about it. She wasn't supposed to mention the music. And as far as dancing went... he had the rhythm and the ability to keep time with the music, but he wasn't a great dancer by any means.
"Why?" he asked, hands still in his pockets, his posture misleadingly relaxed. "Do you like dancing?"

Savannah wouldn't have mentioned it if it had looked like anyone around them was paying any attention at all. But except for a blonde girl wearing a shockingly tiny dress, everyone else seemed too caught up in their own affairs. Still, as he lowered his voice, she glanced around and moved closer.
"I do like dancing," she said. "I don't know that I am very good, either, but I was taught how to do it."
She bit her lip again. This was stupid. They had nothing to talk about. She should let him get back to his date, where ever she was.
"I.... I hope you have a good time tonight," she said.

She wasn't used to this mysterious womanly side of herself, but she felt alluring down to her toes for the first time in her life. She truly felt beautiful, and mysterious. Tonight she could be anyone she wanted, and she didn't want to spoil the illusion.

Cameron's lips pursed. Was she asking him to dance with her? Or, rather, hinting that she wanted him to ask her to dance? There was really only one way to play that out and know.
"You'll have to teach me how sometime tonight then," he said. "I'm sure you're actually quite good at it."
He felt stupid. What did he say to her? He couldn't even figure out what she wanted him to say to her, and that made things really difficult.
"You have a good time tonight too, and don't let your date keep you waiting for too long. I'll see you, okay?"
He was aware of the awkwardness between them, and aware that he needed to get back to Brenda, so he gave Savannah a smile and turned to go back to her, putting an arm around her waist. "Sorry about that," he said. "Had to say hi to a friend. Now... what do you say we go turn heads?"

Savannah took a deep breath and nodded. "I would be happy to," she replied, her tone formal but her voice soft. "Thank you."
She felt like she couldn't breathe until he turned and walked away. But her eyes followed him as he made his way through the crowd and put his arm around the scantily-clad blonde. She should have known that would be his date. A girl like that... she was more his type. Beautiful, bold... and trampy. What would he want with a prim, proper girl? They were too different.
And why was she thinking about that, anyway? She let out the breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding and began to scan the crowd for Liam.

In Jonesy's head, it was almost like a guessing game. He had seen those eyes before, looked into them, talked with them... Who was she? Jonesy smiled back at her and glanced at the stairs before looking back at this mystery girl. "Well, I don't want to intrude while your date arrives," Jonesy said. He took a step toward her, his eyes never leaving ing hers. he reached for her hand and lifted it to his lips. "I hope he doesn't mind, but I will be finding you later tonight to ask for a dance," Jonesy said. The he dropped her hand and stepped back smiling at her before he turned away into the crowd.

Brenda gave a saccharine smile as Cameron wrapped his arm around her and led her into the ballroom. She turned her head, staring over at Savannah contemptuously. Brenda was used to being the center of attention, and she greatly resented that the mousy little Ravenclaw had been enough to drag Cameron away from her.
On the rare occasion when Brenda found a guy looking elsewhere than at herself (and this had happened during her brief fling with Rystain in her fifth year), Brenda usually turned her vengeance on the girl. She could utterly humiliate a girl if she wanted to. And yet, Brenda felt like it wasn't worth it to go after the little Ravenclaw. She was quiet and prim and proper and not at all in the same league as Brenda. She could topple the girl without even trying. It wouldn't even be worth the effort.
So maybe it was time for Brenda to cut Cameron loose before he could dump her....

Natasha adopted the proper flush to her cheeks to the point where it was just becomming and not embarrassing as she was to appear flattered not shocked. Though a part of her was indeed surprised. It wasn't that she wasn't, as he said, lovely, or that he shouldn't want to dance with her, it was simply that he had never paid much attention to her in the past, and he certainly wasn't one of her conquests. No she was smarter than that, Justin was in the five percent category of men she wouldn't want to manipulate, there was something decidedly dangerous about him, attractive yes...but dangerous, perhaps that was part of the attraction. "It would be an honor." she said once more assuming the propper nod with lowered eyes. He gave a mysterious half-smile. She was playing the perfect society princess again, but he had seen another side of her. A fiery, passionate side, and that was what fascinated him. He had a strange urge to tease her and see if he could make her angry, but of course, now was not the time. Later. He would definitely ask her for that dance. "I look forward to it," he replied with a small bow. Then he took his leave of her, leading Gwen into the ballroom without another word.

She nodded indulging in a gentle mysterious smile herself before dipping a curtsy and letting him by. Normally many men in her own class bored her to tears, but she knew or at least she had heard that Justin was more rakish than usual. Not necessarily a playboy, but there was an added air of danger that surrounded him and made girls even more attracted to him than for just his looks.

Alenna smiled and took his hand. "We shall," she said, and she and Jeremy began their way to the Yule Ball. There were lots of people in the entrance hall, either with their dates or waiting for them. She looked around and saw the faimilar faces of her schoolmates. "This is going to be fun," she said squeezing Jeremy's hand in excitement. Jeremy scanned the crowd in search of Nolan and Julia, but didn't see them anywhere. It was pretty crowded in the hall, so it was really hard to make out anyone. "I hope Nolan and Julia made it," he commented. Of course, he couldn't quite imagine what else they would be doing. Sure, Nolan had a reputation with girls, but this was Julia. Surely she wouldn't want to be late. "Why don't we head in? It still looks like things haven't started yet."

Alenna tugged subconsciously at a strand of her dark hair as she too looked around the hall for their friends. She wondered to herself if her brothers or sister had decided to come and she wished she had checked on them before leaving.
"Oh you know Ju," Alenna said. "She's kicking his butt to get here and Nolan's taking his sweet time," She laughed. "They'll get here. Yeah, let's go in, see if we can grab a table to eat for the four of us." She smiled.

He felt like it was choking him, and also that it seemed slightly ridiculous.

Collin wore all black dress robes. Nothing exciting or decorated, he wasn't like that. He didn't even have a girl on his arm for the occasion. It was just a ball, no big deal. He shoved his hands into his pockets and walked up from the Slytherin common room to where the party was.
He smiled at a few people he knew, scowled at those he didn't, and kept an eye out for his sister, whom he couldn't really see. Cooly, Collin leaned against the wall next to the stairs to the dungeons, ready for a get away if he got too bored with the ball.
