It had been seven years since Sas had seen India, and she still felt like it was home. It wasn't like she had left anything there... in fact, there was nothing there for her except a post office box that sometimes had letters and things from a childhood friend. Even that had closed a long time ago.
She was still overwhelmed by this magic thing sometimes, too.
Today, she was fighting to find her way into the right department, her internship application finally having been accepted.
She came across a pretty blonde girl behind a desk, and smiled. "Hi... Hello."

April glaced up from her work, eyeing and assesing the girl in front of her. She was young, probably just out of school, which meant she probably wanted to inquire about working there. It was ridiculous how many people she had to turn down, but it really took a certain type of person to work in the department, and granted, her boss had finally say, but she was sort of the screening process. Honestly, she needed to find Mr. Burke an assistant. She was much more of a field worker herself.
"Yes? How can I help you?"

Sas didn't know, actually, but she just smiled. "I'm a new intern here and I was told to come today at 9 AM... I'm a few minutes early. My name is Sasmita Lali."
She even extended her hand. It wasn't really in her to be sour or unfriendly, even if she had every right to be.

April raised her eyebrows and shook Sasmita's hand. "I'm April. It's a pleasure," she said, nodding and pulling out a file. "Right, I remember now. Listen, Mr. Burke... who is the head of the department, is out of the office right now, and I'm about to go out on a call, but what I would like to do is have you shadow one of our other officials. Would you be interested in that?"

Sas nodded. "Yes, of course. Whatever you'd like me to do... I'm just here to learn."
She felt like April was giving her an oppertunity, rather than brushing her off, and she didn't mind ding whatever she was asked. She would even do all the office work for a while if needed. She was a little excited to be able to shadow someone.

"Okay, good. Here, come with me," April said, getting up and showing the new intern into an office. "I'll have someone come for you when they come in. You are a little early... which is good, of course. We appreciate that. In the mean time, make yourself comfortable."
She went back to her desk to finish up some last minute paperwork, and she would send whichever of the others came in first to introduce themselves to Sasmita.

Krushik was usually early to work, that was just his usual habit. He dressed in his simple robes as usual and brought his glasses with him, just in case he needed them for something.
He walked into the Ministry and greeted the few people that he saw and made his way up to the Department of Magical Creatures. Krushik was also helping work on the wolfsbane potion to help with werewolves, so it was important that he got as many hours as he could.
Walking into the Department, he stopped for a moment and smiled at April. "Good morning April," he greeted.

April looked up and smiled predatorily.
"Good morning, Krushik," she said. She was friendly and nice when she cared to be, and Krushik was a good guy. But she was also teasing him this morning.
"Have you ever wondered when all of this showing up early business was going to pay off? Today's the day, Krushik, and your reward is a lovely new, green, inexperienced intern to shadow you for a while. Through there," she said, pointing to the door she had sent Sasmita through.

He looked at April oddly. He never expected anything from coming in early, just to get started on his work earlier and hopefully have great progress on it. "An intern," Krushik repeated. "To shadow me?" He usually worked alone and most of the time that was how he liked it. He could think better.
Krushik knew better than complain about it. He looked to the door that April was pointing and sighed. "Alright. I'll see you later. Thanks," he said. Krushik smiled in April's direction before heading through the door.
"Good morning," he said when he saw the intern sitting in the room. "I'm Krushik and I'm guessing that you're the intern."

Sas has been sitting with her legs crossed, her eyes looking around the room as she waited for whomever she was supposed to shadow, and she looked back at the man who entered the room, sitting up a little straighter.
"Krushik," she repeated, smiling at him and standing to offer him her hand. She knew a boy once named Krushik, and she smiled just a little remembering him. "My name is Sas," she said, just giving her nickname since that's what she went by. "And I am the intern, yes."

Krushik took her hand and shook it. "Nice to meet you Sas," he said friendly with a smile on his face. "Let's get out of this room and start working, shall we?" He offered his hand to her to help her up from her chair, just to be polite.
As they walked toward the door, Krushik started to lead her toward the room he usually worked in. "Have a good day April," he called over his shoulder. He looked back to Sas. "So, what kind of things are you interested in exactly?"

"It's nice to meet you too," Sas replied, thinking that he was friendly and unassuming, and she didn't feel like he had judged her the second he saw her, which she usually felt like. She wondered if this was a common trait among boys named Krushik.
"As far as magical creatures go?" Sas asked, keeping up with him and waving goodbye to April as well. "I want to help them... I'd love to work in the rescue unit one day." She saw them as defensless, and if she wouldn't help them, who would?

"Excellent," replied Krushik. "I sometimes work with them but most of the time I'm working on my own or something like that. Sometimes I go out and make treaties with the creatures if I have to. Like the centaurs that are in the Forest by the school, I made sure that they wouldn't attack any students as long as they didn't pass a certain line. Dumbledore of course is iffy about students going into the Forest, and he has every right to be. There's no telling what is lurking in there."
Krushik led her into the room he worked in. "Make yourself comfortable however you would like," he said. "Do you have any kind of questions you would like to ask?"

"No questions right now," Sas told him, listening to everything he was saying with interest. "But I am sure that I will as we go along."
He already sounded knowledgeable and confident. She could tell that he knew what he was doing, and she respected that. "What are you working on today?" She asked, negating her comment earlier about not having questions. Now that she considered it, though, it was probably a good question to ask.

"Well, first of all I'm going to be going through all those papers on my desk and see if it is anything that I might be needed for. Usually, it's nothing that I need to go out and fix. I usually keep an eye out for the registered werewolves, which I can always give you a tour of the department because I'm sure that you will need to know where everything is," said Krushik looking at the pile of papers. "If you would like, you can also look through these and if you find anything interesting you can let me know, or if you don't want to start that just yet, I can show you around the department."

He was very matter of fact with her, but she didn't mind because he did it in an open and welcoming way. He seemed like a very organized man who was very in control of things.
Sasmita had a habit of sizing people up, not judging them, persay, but watching them and trying to read them. She liked what she saw in Krushik, and there was a warm fimiliarity to it.
"I'm open to whatever you'd have me do. I'm ready to start working right away, if you agree."

"Alright, I'll tell you what. We'll go through these papers and glance through them and make sure we don't really have to look into anything special and then as a break, I'll show you around the department."
Krushik already liked this woman. She seemed to be willing to work and do whatever she had to do, and he could admire that. Although he preferred to work alone, he could see himself working with her to make sure she understood everything that she was supposed to do.
He looked at the papers and took one off the top. "Feel free to look through them if you wish. Since you're so eager to work, I'll put you to it, but I promise not to work you too hard." Krushik gave Sas a smile.

She wondered briefly if he saw her eagerness as a bad thing, but past that, she didn't give it much thought. She had waited a long time for the Ministry to finally accept her application... naturally, she would be eager.
Sas leaned forward and took the papers from the desk, and then handed half of them back so that they could look through them at the same time.
"I'm willing to work hard," she said honestly, and glanced up before that smile silenced her. If she had been unsure of how familiar this man seemed, that smile hit her like a brick. She didn;t make the connection, but she felt a warmth and a nostalgia in that smile that nearly took her breath away.

Krushik was for once really happy that he got to work early. Maybe what April said was true. Maybe all his coming in early was going to pay off and his reward was going to be a hard working intern. That would be excellent.
Sas seemed like the type of person that he wouldn't mind working with and he just hoped that it wasn't just one of those first day only type things, however he couldn't really see her just slacking off.
"Great," he said. "I've never had an intern to work with me or anything like that, so I hope that I show you what you want to know." Krushik looked at her as if he was studying her for a moment, but he looked away and looked down to his paper to glance over it.

Sas nodded, showing that she was agreeable to the plan. "Just... if I have any questions along the way, do you mind if I ask? For all she knew, he could be one of those silent working types that didn't like to be bothered at all.
But so far, she thought her first day was going quite well. She paused on a paper, and wondered what he classified as urgent, though none of these seemed to be.
