Jamie headed down from the owlry, slipping the letter into his book bag after reading it for the third time. It was from Cyrus, depicting how Mara was, and ensuring him that she was nnot ill, despite Noah's note. He was OCD about Mara, always making sure she was ohkay. Mara wasn't Jamie's kid, and his constant precautions gave a great reason to be mocked by Noah and Collin.
Jamie didn't mind though, he maybe have been quiet, but he knew what he valued. And although Noah and Collin were his besst friends, that didn't mean they were right.

Scarlette was just running up to the owlry, a letter in her hand. She was supposed to have sent the letter about week ago... forget that she had only just written it. But she knew if she waited any longer, she was bound to get a worried and angry letter from her mother. Thank Merlin the woman didn't know how to use Howlers.
She was taking the steps two at a time, trying to hurry so she could make it back down to dinner in the Great Hall, and not entirely paying attention to where she was going.

Jamie's ears perked at the sound of the footsteps, running toward him. He looked around, the steps were covered with snow, and the staircase wasn't very wide. Infact, it was quite narrow, and you could barely squeeze past an elf, it was so tight.
Jamie pulled his scarf a little tighter around his throat, feeling a bit cold. He was sure the person would stop. It was difficult to miss Jamie. He was taller then most, and wearing the black robes against the snow, with the blue scarf hanging out.
He felt a bit antsy, and slowed down.

Scarlette saw him, and not a moment too soon. Truly, she hadn;t been expecting anyone else to be on the stairway, and she had enough momentum going that while her feet stopped the step below him, her body did not, and she stumbled, falling into him, since there was nowhere else for her to fall, unless she went down.

Jamie felt the force of the girl before he realized that she had crashed into him. Not expecting the cannon ball of a girl, he fell backwards. The girl came tumbling down with him, which wasn't unexpected and landed directly on him.
Jamie was so surprised that he had to catch his breathe, before asking, "are you all right?"

It took Scarlette a moment to realize what had happened, to catch her own breath, and then to push herself off of him quickly. He had softened her fall considerably, which meant he had hit the stairs, and the had to hurt.
"I'm fine," she said said, feeling bad, which didn't usually happen. But she recognized that it was her fault if he was in any pain. "I am so sorry... are you okay?" She asked, getting to her feet in the narrow stairwell and extending a hand to help him up.

Jamie quickly took her hand in his, noticing the size difference immediately. He tried to push himself up, but was still a bit winded from the fall, and just had her help him into a sitting position.
He looked at the girl, who he'd seen around maybe once or twice. He gave a small stutter and felt his face turn warm as he mumbled, "uh, yeah. I'm ohkay."
She hadn't been in any of his classes, and she was a Gryffindor. He liked her dark hair, and her seeming innocent face. She was shorter then him, and he liked that.

"Are you sure?" Scarlette asked, frowning as she regarded him. Slowly, she knelt to her knees. It felt strange looking down on him, after she had knocked him down in the first place. "Well, at least we didn't tumble down the stairs, right?"
She felt like she should apologize again, but quickly squashed the thought. She had already once, and he had already said that he was all right. No sense in pushing it further.
Not really knowing what else to say, she gave him a helpless smile.

Jamie gave her a small smile, and swept his fiingers through his hair to push it out of his face nervously. "No, I think tumbling would have made this a tad more painful."
He wasn't good at talking to girls, he wasn't good at talking in general. And here was this pretty girl, right next to his face, seemingly concerned for his well being.
Slowly, he gathered up enough to look away from her eyes and to the ground and mutter a pathetic, "I'm Jamie. Jamie Ferrera."

Scarlette's smile widened. So he could joke... she liked that.
"Hi Jamie, Jamie Ferrera. I'm Scarlette. Like the color. Meyers." She added her last name as an afterthought, since he had given his.
"And I'm going to take a wild guess from your tie that you're in Ravenclaw, which explains why I haven't... bumped into you before." She smiled at her own pun.

"Well, Scarlette like the color," Jamie bit his lower lip, putting his hands behind his head. "yes, I'm in Ravenclaw. I preferred blue over green," he thought momentarily about Noah's pride in Slytherin, and his own indifference of the house Ravenclaw. "And I can guess that you are in Gryffindor, with a name such as Scarlette. Not to mention the red tie."
Jamie was surprised by himself, able to carry on a conversation. He usually was much less verbal then this, but she made him talk more, and a bit faster then his usual calm, collected state.
He hoped he'd shut up, before she thought he was weird.

Scarlette shrugged. "What can I say? I'm very loyal to my house." She laughed lightly at this. Her name did fit Gryffindor well.
"Look at you. Getting comfortable? I guess I shouldn't feel as bad about knocking you over."
She noticed nothing weird about him, but rather felt at ease in his presence. He made her feel like she didn't have to try and be anything else around him, which she loved n a person, because she never put on a face for anyone. It usually put her at odds with others.

He slinked back against the stairs, "oh yes, I absolutely love the snow, sitting on it, throwing it..." He shrugged, before taking a giant wad of snow and compacting it in his hands. "Do I sense a little tone of jealousy? WIshing you were sitting on the snow instead of me?"
He lightly tossed the snowball, letting it hit her in the side while giving her an innocent look. "Whoops."

Scarlette was watching him wearily, especially when he was making that snowball. No good could come of it, she knew.
She tried to block the snowball, since she had seen it coming, and stared at him in slight disbelief. "Are you mad?" She asked, grabbing a handful of snow that she didn't even bother to pack into a snowball, and got to her feet.
She was on her way to the Owlry anyway, so she stepped over him, letting the snow drop on his head as she continued on, wondering if he would follow her or not.

Jamie scrambled to get up, determined to follow her and find out more about her. He snapped up and grabbed some snow, shoving it in his pocket hastily as he tripped up the stairs, finally catching up.
"Mad? Why would I be mad?" Jamie shrugged, only slightly out of breathe from his ungraceful endeavors to reach her, shaking the white powder out of his hair, letting it flutter to her face softly.

"Mad. Barking. Crazy," Scarlette replied, smiling to herself. The fact that he did catch up to her made her smile a lot. Most other boys when have left it alone and gone on their way.
She shook the snow away. "I could have been offended by that snowball. You don't know," she offered, clicking her tongue at a Snowy Owl, who flew down and perched beside her. She tied the letter to the his leg and sent him off through the window.
Finally, she turned to face him, her hands on her hips.

"Were you offended?" Jamie raised an eyebrow, leaning against the tower wall, letting the winds blow his hair all across his face. He bit his lip again, knowing it was a nervous tendency of his, and tried to stop.
She was standing there, looking fierce for her size, with her hands on her hips. He wasn't sure what he should do, he'd never followed a girl.
"I don't believe I have a form of dementia. And I thought I implied that snowball was a complete accident. I thought you believed I accidentally threw it at you."

"Well, no, I wasn't offended," Scarlette replied, frowning. "But I could have been, and that's the point."
She looked out the window, noticing that a light snow had started to fall again, setting a brilliant backdrop that Jamie was now standing near. It was gorgeous outside.
His next sentence caused her to burst out laughing. "You 'accidentally' threw it? No, I'm sorry. I'm pretty gullible when I want to be, but even I didn't fall for that one."

He liked Scarlette's laugh, it was infectious, and he chuckled himself. "I'm very clumsy, if you didn't notice. I'm always doing things I don't mean to do, on accident. Humans make mistakes." He gave an innocently guilty shrug, andshot her a smile.
But before he could stop himself, Jamie felt the words bubble over the top. "Besides, I don't think I would have liked you if you had been offended by snow. I wouldn't like any girl who doesn't like the weather."
Jamie felt incredibley ridiculous again, showing that weird side of him. He bit his lip for the third time, and nervously pushed back his hair off his forhead.

Still smiling, Scarlette shook her head slightly, as if she as trying to figure him out and couldn't. "Well, lucky for me I guess that I like weather. Though I have to admit, I'm partial to rain."
Actually, she was partial to just about any kind of weather or anything else nature could pull up. Natural disasters fascinated her, and she loved storms. She felt her most energized when she was in the middle of a thunderstorm, and her mother often told her it matched the stormy darkness of her eyes and her personality.
"You're going to chew that lip right off, you know," she added.
