He didn't feel guilty. Cooking this breakfast was not guilty breakfast, even if he himself didn't eat breakfast that often. Besides she was pregnant so she needed the food.
Okay so maybe there was a little guilt. But only because she was pregnant. At the end of the day he shouldn't have dragged her around town when she was exhausted, that was badly done. If this whole situation didn't bring up bitter memories for himself it wouldn't be like this.
Sighing he continued to cook bacon, eggs, waffles, pancakes...your standard variety.

Suzie woke up to the smells of the breakfast, and her first thought was how incredible it smelled.
That lasted for all of three seconds before she was up and in the bathroom, throwing up. Oh, being pregnant was going to be so much fun.
It was a few minutes before she freshened up and came into his living room and kitchen area, wearing the same clothes she had been in yesterday. Being an apartment, and seeing only the one room, she frowned.
"You slept on the couch."
It was a strange scene, him cooking breakfast for her, and she imagined there were many girls who had been in this position, though under different circumstances.

"There was an imp in my bed." he teased turning around with another plate of pancakes. Then he nodded where her hand was at on a nearby table, there was a vial with a bluish liquid" That should ease your stomach a bit, at least so you can get some of this food down."

She glanced at the potion, then back at him.
"And now you're being nice to me. I'm a little disconcerted."
She did sit down though, and eyed the potion for a moment, before she ended up swallowing it and felt as it eased more than her stomach.

"I'm not being anything to you." he told her simply, " You're a guest here...my first actually, last night was a blight but today we'll do things better."
He still didn't know what to make of her, but he had nothing planned immediately taht would set her off.

"Will we?" She asked, then sighed. "I shouldn't be here for very long. I imagine that they'll find me sooner or later. I just can't take the test again so soon, and I apologize for the inconvenience this puts on you."

He shrugged uncomfortable with her politeness, "What went wrong with the first test?" he inquired since he didn't know she had had one yet.
He still didn't know what to make of her except now that she had slept and gotten something to eat, he was realizing that she was really quite beautiful.

She hadn't meant to say anything, and so much had happened the day before that it all sort of blurred together.
"Oh. I don't know, but the results were... what was the word they used? Inconclusive." It was funny, with magic, that things like that could still happen. "And I lied last night. It's only either Zach's or one other man."

Inconclusive...that was interesting. When she followed that she had lied to him last night he stiffened and his jaw clenched, but he nodded before standing up and walking back towards the bedroom, "I have to freshen up, make yourself at home."

Suzie's eyebrows went up, but she didn't say anything, and watched him leave. He had been a terror to her last night, so he couldn't hold one lie against her.
Her eyes went back to the food he had made for breakfast, and she knew there was too much there for one person. And she was hungry. The fact that she didn't want his charity went right out the window when she was so hungry.
So while he was gone, she searched his cabinets and drawers for a plate and fork, and then helped herself to some pancakes and eggs. (Was she supposed to not eat eggs? She couldn't remember).

Derek showered and changed and feeling refreshed from his current problem ventured outside, he gave her a glance then a nod then started on a plate of his own.

She glanced back up, almost feeling guilty that she was eating the food he had made. But she was hungry and she deserved it.
"I was hungry," She explained, her tone apologetic, though she did not actually apologize.

"I assumed you would be." he said not acknowledging the apologetic tone in her voice. His mind was already so full of thoughts many of them on her, so he wasn't really paying attention.
At least he could cook, and Suzie appeared to think so as well considering that she had not died from his food, but Derek often did cook for himself. It wasn't that he didn't like the comforts of a six course meal at the Estate, but when you traveled as often as he did then it simply was either learn how to cook or have tv dinners for the rest of your life. He had learned how to cook.

She sighed, then said, "Thank you. For cooking it, I mean."
She pulled her hair back, out of her face, while she ate, still trying to assess this man. He was not easy to figure out... in fact, he was near impossible to figure out, and she just felt so hated in his apartment. It was more than a little obvious that he didn't want her here.

Just because he wasn't making the overtures of hospitiable host didn't mean he didn't want her there. He was really rather indifferent except for the fact that he preferred his apartment to not have guests, but he would do whatever he could to help Zach out. So no he didn't mind her in the aprtment with him so much as he minded her herself. He wondered, not for the first time what else she might be after Zach for.
Still he managed to smile pleasantly, " My pleasure."

Suzie almost laughed. "Is it, really?" She asked, raising her eyebrows. "All right, Derek. Let me lay it all out there for you, so you can stop looking at me like I'm a bottom feeder. My family is quite prominant in the States. I'm not after Zach for his money. I don't even think I'm after Zach at all. He and I had an affair in California... I'm engaged to another man, and he was upset when he found out about Zach. I didn't know this at the time, but to placate him, I slept with him. I found out I was pregnant, and my first thought was that Zachary should know. I just have this feeling that it's his."

He raised an eyebrow at her explanation. He wasn't sure if he believed her or not, he was more inclined not to believe her except that she showed such sincerity not to mention that the money she pulled out last night was hefty.
However he simply nodded, "It's none of my affair. I'm sure the Scotts will come up with some way of handling things if it is Zach's baby...and you Miss Rousseau will find you hardly have a choice in the matter. The Scotts can be...tempermental...and control freaks if you will."

"No choice in the matter?" Suzie asked. "Granted, you don't know me. But I have never taken any thing lying down. Do you think it was Thatcher and Tanya's idea to bring me here?"
And the harder they pushed, the more she was likely to go back to California. It was up to them, in that respect. They would push her to make her decisions.

He gave her an amused glance for this demonstration of backbone, but the little girl didn't understand who she was dealing with, if she thought her fiance was bad...she'd never seen anyone like Tanya. He wondered how his friend was taking this and what a ripping into he was receiving.
"Whatever you say."

Suzie set her fork down and used her napkin to wipe her mouth.
"Thank you for breakfast. I'll be on my way," She said, getting to her feet and putting the dishes in the sink. "I realize I've said this before. I mean it, this time. Please don't bother to chase after me. Merlin knows I wouldn't want to inconvenience you. You've made your displeasure known, and I'd like to make my prescense known were I'll have a bit more respect."
