He laughed a bit at her spark of fire and glanced at her hair as if that were the reason but nodded, "Doesn't mean I like you either." he said before apparating them back to his apartment, doesn't mean that I'm not starting to. He welcomed her inside, well it was more like guiding her inside just to see her pull away it was expected and he would laugh, but once inside he went back to the kitchen to make her something to eat as well as himself.

"As long as we've come to that mutual understanding," Suzie murmured, predictable pulling away, but she did not make a show of it.
She collapsed almost instantly on the couch, more exhausted than she would ever admit, but she saw him in the kitchen and sighed.
"Can I help you?"

"You can sit, or if you prefer go take a nap." he told her amusement laced in the semi rough tone. It wasn't a complete turn around but her courage and determination over the last few hours had a striking affect on the wall he had erected after the sins of his past. Of course he wasn't directly involved and therefore there was enough reason to relax his guard, Zach's he wasn't too sure about.

Suzette frowned, almost telling him that she didn't need to be catered to, but then nearly laughed out loud at this this. He was hardly catering to her at all. Making her a couple of meals was just making up for the horrible way he had treated her, and she may as well let him do it.
"I'll stay here," she told him, meaning the couch, but she curled her legs under her, and she already knew that she would probably fall asleep where she was.

Derek raised his eyebrows at what he assumed would be indignation on her part, this was as close to an apology as she was going to get and it involved cooking while she was hungry and letting her rest while she was tired was she *really* going to argue with him? When she commented he smiled at her answer and nodded if only a trifle smugly before returning to the kitchen to cook.

Suzie sighed. Derek made her on edge... forced her to be on her gaurd, and frankly, she was just too tired. She was at the point where she didn't need anyone to cater to her, but sometimes, it would be nice. For once, she wanted to be taken care of. She wanted to be someone's queen, the piece that was most revered and protected, instead of the pawn, easily sacrificed for some other alternative. Zach made her feel like a queen.
A guilty thought ebbed into her mind that so did Taylor, but there was still a difference. He made her feel like a queen, but a captive one. Chains of gold were still chains, afterall.
She rested her chin on her hand as she watched him. The silence didn't bother her... did either of them really want to make small talk, afterall?

Derek cooked silently and tried to keep images from the past entering his mind but it was hard. When he was finished cooking he had worked himself into a lousy disposition. He came back out to see her, "Food's ready." he mentioned quietly afraid that given room to talk he might say something he'd regret later.

Suzie had been very close to dozing off, but she wasn't sure she trusted Derek enough yet to do that. While he was just now deciding to let his guard down, she still wasn't there. But at least he wasn't insulting her or accusing her everytime he opened his mouth.
She shifted her position on the couch, and gave him a grateful smile. "Thank you," she said softly, and felt a rumble in her stomach in response to the smell of what he had made.

Derek hadn't insulted her with every breath, he just simply didn't trust her, and had no reason to, not even for Zach's sake, he knew what idiots men could be when they thought they were in love and he had paid the price before, he wasn't going to let Zach pay that price. Despite his strong convictions this woman had broken through some resistance in her trek today and he knew he had to soften now or he wouldn't soften at all and that might have been harmful to the baby.
But contrary to what she thought, he hadn't let his guard down, not really, but then again he had always been a gentleman if nothing else, he could do that, he could be that with her even if he didn't trust her.
He returned her smile, "You're welcome."

She took the plate from him, slowly, but that was more because she was tired than anything else, really.
"Unless something's happened, Zach should be coming for me today, so I won't be in your hair too much longer." Something they could both be glad about, she thought. "But... despite our rough start, I do want to thank you for letting me stay."
Her voice was controlled, but soft, and she meant her words.

"If Zach said he would come for you today, then he'll come." Derek said, Derek would make sure of it. It wasn't necessarily that he wanted her out of his hair, which he did, but he also wanted to know what Zack thought of all this. The only reason he might have wanted her to stay would be to keep an eye on her.
"And in that case, despite our rough start, you're welcome."

She wasn't so sure. He had promised things before and let her down, and maybe getting rid of her for a while was just a way of making it easier to run away.
She had no problem raising her baby without him, if it was his, or even if it wasn't. Sure, the prospect of marrying Taylor wasn't a happy one, but she didn't need Zach anymore. He had taught her how not to need him, so if he did run... she was prepared for it.
She started to eat, quietly, because she didn't know what to say.

Derek didn't mind the silence, he was used to it in fact since he was usually alone in his home, the sound ofher eating however drew him away from his introspective thoughts and made him focus on her, and then of course inevitably on the past, if you knew his history his resentment towards the girl was more understandable but he had put that aside for now and was content to think. Silently.

When Suzie had finished eating, which she did in silence, she stood up, taking her plate to the kitchen and setting it in the sink. She stopped just short of washing it.
"Derek," she asked, turning to look at him. "Do you mind if I just lay down for a bit?" He should understand that their little intercity trek had exhausted her.

"Not at all." he said with a side smile as he got up and went to the bedroom to turn down the covers for her, he paused for a moment thinking again how he had been fooled so viciously in the past but tried to tamp down those feelings so they didn't fester like before, then he returned for her, "Bed's ready."

He didn't have to return far. She had gotten up and started to follow him, slowly, and he met her halfway down the hall.
"Thank you," she said again. "I.... I don't know. If you need me, please wake me up." And with that, she moved past him, giving him a soft, gentle smile, and closed the door partially.
Once she laid down, she was sound alseep within five minutes.

Derek nodded wished her a pleasant rest then left the room to think on his own, or to rather not think. Instead of worrying about his past woes he tried to pick up a bit, of course the place was immaculate anyway, Derek didn't keep many personal artifacts so there wasn't much to pick up. Then he tried reading, then about a dozen other things before he started to get tired as well.

When Justin had arrived home the night before, he'd told the pre-conceived lie about getting up to go to the bathroom, only to come back and find that Susie had run away. He'd also managed to pass along the note that Susie had ended up going to Derek's and not to Benjamin's.
Determining that Susie was safe at Derek's apartment for the night, Zach had quietly retired, while Justin faced whatever wrath he had earned for his "mistake." The next morning, Zach was able to convince Thatcher that he wouldn't run again, and that it would be safe to allow him to go search for Susie.
Now, unaware of the chasing back and forth between Derek and Susie, Zach finally arrived at Derek's. He knocked on the door to the apartment and waited for his friend to answer.

Derek was caught in a doze although his dreams were fretful, memories from the past had come to haunt him as he could almost feel a small hand touch his finger, it was then that he heard the knock and jolted out of the nightmare, the endless torture that had returned with Suzie's entrance into his life. Hearing the knock however he set his worries aside and went to the door, when he opened it he was torn between a grin and a stern look, he settled for crossing his arms over his chest and stepping back to let his friend in, a sarcastic quirk to the side of his mouth, "You were a lot busier in America than you let on."

Zachary rolled his eyes as he stepped into the apartment. "Yeah, yeah, I know. I really messed up this time. But please, spare me the lectures, will you? I've been hearing all night from Thatcher and Tanya."
Walking over to the sofa, he sat down and began to rub his head tiredly. "I was afraid they were going to lock me up in my room like a five year old. I'm lucky I made it here at all. So where is she?"
