If Kyle had suspected that Amelia had even entertained the thought of being jealous, he could have quickly assured her that the muggle woman who worked for him was in her early 60s and wore her hair in an enormous beehive hairstyle. But it honestly didn't occur to him that she might have even an inkling of being jealous. After all, in his head, he could only picture the woman with her gigantic hair. "I know... I'm always afraid I'll look foolish with the thing... It has all these buttons on it and I don't know what they do. Curious invention, really. But muggles swear by it. When I realized that muggles were in need of my help, I figured I'd better have one put in. I'll have to show you my office sometime. It's right in London."

She tried to imagine the tellyfone that would fit nicely into an office. The only one she'd even glanced at was the big red booth that was the guest entrance to the Ministry and she'd never used it. She couldn't picture him or his secretary standing in there all day, arranging Kyle's schedule. It would have been awfully awkward and uncomfortable. "That would be great. I'd love to meet your secretary, too." To see if she was even competition. Right now, Amelia could only picture her as a leggy brunette in a short outfit. "Is it far from the Ministry?"

"Sure. I'm sure she'd love to meet you," Kyle said. He didn't add that the grandmotherly woman was always saying that a "big strapping young man" like himself "needed a young lady in his life." Certainly Mildred would be pleased to see that he was attempting to take her advice. "I'll have to bring you by the office someday soon. You know, when we have some spare time." At this he rolled his eyes and laughed, since they both knew how rare "spare time" really was. "Hopefully it won't take as long as it took to arrange this date. We're only about three blocks from the Ministry... you could maybe come by on your lunch break."

Amelia laughed at his 'spare time' joke. Clearly it was a joke as it had taken them a month to get enough spare time to go to a movie together. As terrible as it was to not be able to see him when she wanted to, it was nice to have him understanding of her situation. They seemed very in-tune for two people who had only spent a small handful of hours together. But she did hope to spend more time with him. "I'd say that would be loads easier to plan. Of course, it would be my lunch hour, so you'd be obligated to feed me," she said with a giggle.

Kyle laughed. "Well, I suppose I can manage that," he said. "There's a little deli next door to our office, and a cute little cafe just across the street. Just send me an owl whenever it's a good time for you. My secretary is used to owls flying in and out. We have a deal... I handle the owls, and she takes care of the phone." He glanced down at his menu again for a moment, then looked back up at her. "Did I mention that my apartment is above my office?"

"No, you hadn't mentioned that." She said with a little grin. Was he making conversation or getting at something? She couldn't tell. She wouldn't have minded seeing his place, he had seen hers after all.
The waiter came for their orders then and Amelia quickly looked back at the menu. She hadn't decided yet, but during the short pauses in their conversation she had been able to narrow the options down to two. She decided to order her first choice, the seared halibut with saffron cream and root vegetables. She also ordered a garden salad but told the waiter that water would be fine.

"If we get time, I'll have to show you around up there, too. Assuming the place isn't a terrible mess. When I'm very busy, I'm afraid I sometimes get a little lax with the house work. I'm actually thinking of getting a maid or a house elf or something to help me keep order in my place."
When the waitress approached, he glanced down at his menu while Amelia made her selection. "I'll have the filet of beef with the swiss cheese potatoes and asparagus," he said, deciding quickly. "Also, could we have the foccacia with olive oil and balsamic to share? And I'll have water with lemon."
Once the order was placed, the waitress took their menus and hurried off to out in the order, and Kyle turned back to Amelia. "So I picked up a program from the movie theatre, if you want to have a look at it." He pulled a narrow folded piece of paper out from his robes and handed it to her,

"You should have seen my place before Didia. It was a mess. Honestly, I don't think I could go back to not having a house elf to help me. I'd probably go mad." Amelia handed her menu to the waitress before the girl took off, leaving them to their date.
Amelia took the program from Kyle and looked it over. There were plenty of choices for tonight but never having gone before, Amelia didn't know what she wanted to choose. "Have you heard about any of these?"

Kyle laughed. "Well, it's hard to imagine you as the messy type, but you are very busy. Busy people do have trouble keeping things neat... I should know. I have the same problem. I work too much and when I get home, I don't have time to clean. I just want to lay back and relax, not waste my time cleaning. But I suppose if business keeps going this well, I'll be able to get a house elf, or even hire someone."
Leaning across the table to look at the program, he shrugged. "No, not really. I think they're vaguely based on muggle movies, but with a twist. That's what the person behind the counter at the movie theatre told me."

"Hmm..." Amelia played with her bottom lip as she looked over the titles. "Based solely on the title, I say we check out this Star Wars one. That has to be exciting, the title screams action doesn't it?" She looked from the program, to Kyle, grinned, then back to the program.

"Hmmm, that does sound interesting," Kyle agreed, leaning across the table to check out the little brochure. "We can check that one out. I don't know much about it, but I guess we'll find out." He was still leaning across the table and he could suddenly smell a subtle hint of her perfume. It was a nice scent... not too flowery, with a hint of spice. It suited her.
"I'm really glad we finally were able to get together," he said. "I was sure some good-looking ministry official would have taken an interest in you by now."

Glad to have something planned out for the rest of the night, Amelia set the brochure on the table. She liked having things planned out whenever possible, though she wouldn't throw a fit if she had to go off the cuff. She was an orderly flexible person.
"I don't think that would have been a problem, honestly. We're a terribly homely bunch over there." The few good-looking Ministry men were all paired up with someone, and she had a rule against dating men she worked with. No dipping her quill in the company ink.

Kyle laughed. "Yeah, I'm sure," he said. "Except for the aurors, right? Speaking of which, I'm still in shock over the whole situation with Andromeda and Ted. When I saw them together at your brunch, they seemed completely crazy about each other. They couldn't take their eyes off of each other. I can't help but wonder what really happened... that article couldn't have been for real. Have you talked to her at all?"

The Aurors were the few exceptions to the homely rule, but as she worked in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, it would be far too close to the Auror Department to even con sider breaking her no dating at work rule. Besides, she rarely took the time to pull herself away from her work. Kyle was a very lovely exception.
She sighed lightly at the mention of Andromeda and Ted. That was such a confusing situation and she felt like she barely knew anything. "Yes, I met up with her the other day. It was the first time since that nasty break up that she could do anything more than sob at the mention of Ted. We went out to the Three Broomsticks to get a drink and talk. And wouldn't you know it, Ted was there. Well they still can't keep their eyes off each other. As soon as they saw one another they were out in the street, chatting. I did a little spying from inside the bar, but I wasn't the only one. Ted was with a woman before Andi and I showed up."

Kyle frowned. He wasn't quite sure what to make of the situation. It was obvious that the two of them had a very strong connection, but something was keeping them apart. "Another woman? Do you think he was involved with her? It's so strange... he really did seem to be in love with Andi... Every time I see a guy who looks at a girl the way Ted looked at Andi, they end up getting married in less than a year. I've seen the signs, believe me. Do you suppose there's so reason they can't be together? Maybe her family threatened him?"

"I don't know. I couldn't hear Ted and Andi outside very well, and I didn't stop to chat with the woman. She was very pretty..." Amelia hesitated for a moment, thinking back on the night, trying to find some detail that she had forgotten about that would tell her for sure if Ted and the mystery woman were an item now. She couldn't remember anything, which was unsettling. "Andi had run off, after what looked like a very intense discussion. I tried to follow after her but she apparated and I couldn't catch her. I didn't hang around to see what Ted and that woman would do."
"Ted is an Auror. If someone threatened him, I'm quite sure he could handle it. I wouldn't have thought anything would scare Ted away from Andromeda. We all thought they would get married, even after just a few weeks. They seemed the perfect couple. Its really unnerving, knowing that two people who were so meant for each other can't make it." What hope did the rest of them have if Andi and Ted couldn't be together?

Kyle was thinking along the same lines. With all the terrible things that were going on in the world around them, love was more important than ever. And if two people who truly loved each other couldn't be together, did that mean that they were all going to be consumed by the violence that was building in the wizarding world? An innocent girl had been murdered, and for what? Was the hate finally winning out against love?
"I wish I had talked to Ted a little more at your party," he said grimly. "I feel like he might need someone to talk to... like maybe he's not thinking clearly. But I don't really know him well enough for him to confide in me. I just hate to see two people who clearly belong together separated, if there's any way to prevent it."

"Andromeda hasn't spoken about it since. I'm really afraid she's going to have a relapse. Neither of them were very functional after the break up. And this..." Amelia let the end of her sentence drop. She didn't want to think about what would happen with Andi if this meeting did cause her to go back into her depression. It would surely be worse the second time around. "I only saw Ted at the Ministry once since then. He looked like he needed someone to talk to, but Felicia's got me running circles since the Hogwarts murder."

Kyle wasn't sure what to say. It really seemed like the two of them loved each other very much; why else would they react so badly to breaking up? But there was a lot he didn't know about, and he didn't feel right about getting involved in their business.
"That's really a shame," he said at last. "I really hope they can find a way to work it out. Or move on. Whatever is best for them. But I have to admit, I really hope they get back together, and that it's not too late for them."

Amelia agreed with a nod and thought a little more on the subject. They really ought to do something to help them out.But Amelia felt that Andi might view it as butting their noses in where they didn't belong, which was what her the Black family seemed to do a lot. Amelia did not want to resemble the Blacks in any way, not after hearing Andi talk about them.
There was a bit of silence as she ran through her thoughts in her head, and in that time the server had arrived with their drinks and bread, and Amelia's salad. She said thank you with a polite smile before turning back to Kyle. She didn't mind talking about her friend Andromeda, but she Andi's situation was a rather depressing one when you were on a date. Spotting the brochure still on the table, Amelia redirected the conversation. "I'm really looking forward to seeing that movie. It had better be as good as people say."
In hindsight, she should have started a new topic as they had already discussed the movie a bit. But she really was looking forward to it.
