It all felt wrong. She was still hurting. And if she went back with him now, it would feel like a pale imitation of the way things used to be. Casablanca.... French toast with chocolate and peanut butter... these were beautiful memories she didn't want to taint with the feelings of fear and doubt she was feeling now. The timing wasn't right... she hadn't healed yet. Right now it still felt like her heart was breaking all over again.
Shaking her head, she pulled away from him. Looking up at him with her eyes filling with tears, she choked out, "No... I can't, Ted. Not yet... I can't do this. I... I need some time, OK? I need to think... to figure this out on my own. I'm sorry."
And with that, she abruptly turned and ran away. She couldn't bring herself to look back.

"Andi, no!" He called after her, and he even started to run after her, but stopped when she apparated. He didn't know where she would go, but it certainly wouldn't be back to the apartment complex.
He slammed his fist into the brick side of the building, causing blood to spill from his knuckles instantly, but he didn't even notice the pain. He'd already told her, and he thought she agreed, that time alone was not the way to do this. They had been taking time alone already, and look at them?
Well, she was obviously doing better without him than he had been lead to believe. He supposed she deserved her turn, but he felt like his heart had been ripped from his chest all over again, and he didn't know what to do at this point.

Veronica was standing by the door, trying to give him his space, hoping that somehow, he and Andromeda could work things out. It was obvious to her that Ted loved Andi desperately, and it seemed as though she felt the same way. What was there to hold them back?
But when she heard Ted's voice yelling, she peeked out the door and saw him punching the side of the building. She sighed sadly and hurried over to him. "Ted! Ted, stop! You'll hurt yourself... look, you're already bleeding."

"Don't," Ted hissed, putting his hands up. "Don't touch me, or..."
Or what, he didn't know. He wasn't even truly aware that he was talking to Veronica. His blood was boiling with anger, but not at her, and not at Andromeda. He was frustrated with Andi. He didn't know why she thought time would help them... it would just let her stay angry.
But he was mad at himself, and unfortunately, Veronica was his outlet. Or she would be, if she pressed the matter. He was barely reigning himself in right then as he ran his clean hand through his hair.

Veronica took a step back, recognizing by the tone of his voice that it would not be a good idea to mess with him right now. But he was still her friend, and she wasn't about to give up on him. "Ted, please. Let me look at your hand. I know you're hurting, and you have every right to be. But let me fix your hand, at least. OK?"

"Don't," Ted said. "I'll fix it."
He was pacing in little circles, too angry to drink more... well, here anyway, and too drunk to figure out how to get home, though he would never ever admit that to Veronica. He didn't feel like he had that much to drink today though, so maybe he was too angry for that too.
He wanted to yell and scream at somebody. Hell, some part of him wanted to make someone hurt, but Veronica wasn't that person. He couldn't do that to her.

"But you're not fixing it," Veronica said as blood dripped from his hand. "Please, Ted... Let me help you. I feel like this is my fault, because I took you here tonight against your will. It never even occurred to me that we might run into her." She eyed him warily, both afraid for him and afraid of him. He seemed like a caged tiger ready to pounce.

"Stop it," Ted said, his voice trembling with the rage that he just barely controlled.
"Go drink with Arthur," he added, his head spinning as he tried to figure out what he had said wrong. Obviously, he had said something that made Andi run. Or she... or she agreed that they shouldn't be together. But she had told him that he was wrong about her love fading, and that she wouldn't stay with her family.
Which left....
"Rabastan."

"I'm not leaving you," Veronica said. "Not now... You shouldn't be alone right now." The look in his eyes terrified her. He looked ten times worse than he had when she had gone to his apartment earlier that evening. Whatever had happened--and she wasn't going to ask him for details--it had ripped open his scars and left him worse than before. She was honestly afraid for him. She had never seen such anger and desperation in his eyes before. What if he did something to hurt himself? Or someone else?
She ignored the mention of Rabastan, thinking it nonsense, or none of her business. Her priority was making sure he was safe. "Ted, please, let me take you home."

"Go away, Veronica!" Ted yelled at her, no longer able to keep himself controllled.
Talk to her, they said. She misses you. She wants you back. She'll forgive you, they said. They were all bloody wrong, and now he was no better off than before. Worse, actually, because he didn't have the hope anymore that she would take him back. She needed time... they had been apart, already had their time, and she couldn't trust him to make it up to her.

Veronica backed up a little more, but she still didn't leave. Her hand was poised over her wand, and she was seriously pondering hitting him with a stunner and dragging him back to his place. He was in bad shape, and, in the condition he was in, she honestly believed he was a danger to himself and others. Unfortunately, that meant her as well. But she was his friend, and she would not abandon him now.
"I'm not leaving," she said. "Go ahead, yell at me, scream, cry, do whatever. But let me take you home."

"I'm not going home," Ted said, trying to figure out where exactly he was going to go.
"No, I have a job to do that I've been putting off," his tone was quieter, but still harsh. It was the only thing he could think to do. He didn't want to go home, and he didn't want her around. Merlin knew he didn't want Arthur around.
He finally stopped pacing and met her eyes. "Please go. I don't want you getting hurt."

"You're in no condition to be going anywhere," she said stubbornly. "And I don't want you to end up getting hurt. You're scaring me. Please. I'll hex you if I have to." She stood with one hand on her hip, and the other was now holding her wand. "You should go home and rest. Or drink some more. Whatever. But if you go out like this, angry and looking for a fight, no good can come of it."
Veronica could be stubborn as a mule, and there was no way she was giving up on a friend. She would fully expect him to do the same for her, if the situations were reversed.

Ted finally noticed the wand in her hand, and he made a low, growling noise in the back of his throat. He reached for his own wand.
"I'm not looking for a fight, especially not with you," he told her, his voice low, ready to defend himself if she did hex him.
Maybe he should go home. He could take his anger out on something in private that way, and she wouldn't worry about him so much. "Please go back inside, Veronica. I'm going to be fine."

"Neither am I," she said, her tone gentle. "But I care about you, Ted. And I don't want to see you get hurt any more than you already are tonight. Promise me you'll go home. If you do that, I'll leave you alone, OK? Just go home and get some rest. Get drunk, if you really think that will make you feel better. But I need to be sure you're not going to hurt yourself."
She put her wand away slowly, showing him that she didn't want to fight. She just needed to know that he was going to be OK.

Ted didn't know what was going to make him feel better. Getting drunk only helped for so long. The trouble with trying to drown your sorrows was that sorrows could swim. And then he usually felt worse when he sobered up again.
"I'll go home," he said softly, losing the dangerous edge to his voice. He didn't have the energy to keep it up. "I'm sorry, Roni. We'll try this again another time, all right?"

Veronica relaxed and put her wand away slowly. He was calming down, at least a little bit. She was still worried about him, but maybe not as much as before. "OK. Go home. Get some rest. Can I come by to check on you tomorrow? Bring you some food or something?"

Ted shook his head. "No, don't. I'll be fine."
Fine, and hiding away from everyone. If they had thought he looked bad before... Ted didn't plan on being miserable. Before, he had pushed the love of his life away, and it was hard to deal with, but he was slowly getting better because he had done it for her. Now... she pushed him away and he didn't know what to do.
He forced himself to stand up straight and gave Veronica a little wave before he turned around.

Veronica stood staring helplessly after him. She wanted to help him get home safely, but she knew he would just push her away. And she wished there was something she could say or do to ease his pain somehow. But the situation seemed hopeless. His heart was broken, and she had no way of fixing it.
She sighed and watched him go.
