"That's me."
She didn't realize she said it outloud until it was too late, and she looked up suddenly. It was not a realization she had made about who Dean liked. It was more frustration that the girl he was head over heels for was just like her, so what did she have that Jackie didn't? Was she prettier? Taller? A little more controlable? What was it?
"I just mean that she sounds a little like me. So... you know. Maybe I just tell you what I'd respond to, and see if that works with this girl."

For a moment, Dean's heart dropped to his stomach. He thought for a moment that she had figured it out, but she spoke again, and he realized that she hadn't figured out that it was her, not some other girl like her.
He rubbed the back of his neck with a free hand. What else was he supposed to tell her? It was going to give it away that it was her, but he didn't care. His face was lightly pink, but his ears were burning. "Well, I've always put my arm around her. I always give her some kind of compliment. I try to get close to her as much as I can. I think she thinks that I'm just doing it because."

Those were all things Jackie responded to. But she didn't understand. She would have seen him getting cozy with some other girl. He spent all of his time with her, so when did he find time to be like this with someone else?
"It has to be a Ravenclaw," she said. When he was in his comon room was the only time he was away from her. She laughed. "Or it's me," and she nudged him playfully. "What is it about her, Dean? Why do you like her so much?"

Dean couldn't help but laugh. She still thought it was a Ravenclaw. "Most of them are really into books and most wouldn't really want to actually do something crazy." Again, he felt his heart drop when she said her next comment. Although, Dean caught on that she was playing, he couldn't help it.
"Her personality is something I adore. Her ability to be outspoken and come up with crazy things. She says things when I don't. She's probably the coolest girl I know. She seems to know how to push my buttons."

She knew how to push her buttons. She was outspoken. She made him do things he wouldn't normally do. She had crazy ideas.
So why her?! And why not Jackie?
"I don't get it, Dean. You're best friend is just like that... why would you want a girlfriend who acts the same way?"
Something clicked in her head when she asked that question outloud. He had more or less just admitted it wasn't a Ravenclaw, and all of his non Ravenclaw time was spent with her. And he was bloody describing her. Still, she became a girl, and she had her doubts that he was talking about her. He couldn't be, right? She bit her lip and decided to let him answer her question.

Dean wanted to slap his head, but he refrained himself from doing so. Jackie was being slow about this. He was describing her every way he could without actually saying her name. He sighed loudly. How was he supposed to answer that question? The way that he came up with, he would say her name, so he didn't voice it that way.
"I don't know. You tell me."

Jackie wanted to hit him. That was a stupid answer to her question. Why the hell did he need her twice? It didn't make sense, and she was starting to get extremely jealous of this other girl. There had to be just one small thing...
Or, it really was her. And there was only one way she would ever know.
She pulled away from him, though her arms were still around him, and she looked up. Then, quickly, before she or he could talk her out of it, she put her hands on his shoulders and lifted herself to her tiptoes and pressed her lips to his. There was nothing hesitent in it. In fact, it was a little angry.

He raised an eyebrow at her facial expression but he noticed that she had put her hands on his shoulders. Dean didn't know what she was doing until he felt her kiss him. For just a moment, he was shocked but then he leaned down a little bit so she didn't have to stretch so far up, and then he pulled her closer to him as he returned the kiss. This is bliss.
Dean slowly pulled away with his cheeks red, but a goofy smile on his face. "I thought you would never catch on."

As he leaned down, she let herself rest her heels on the ground again, and she was reluctant for the kiss to end. He might tell her that he couldn't... that he was in love with someone else. But if he did, she was going to fight to know why.
At his words, she blushed a deep red. "You were talking about me... this whole time? I could kill you."

A grin remained on his face. "Well, I had to make sure that what I did with you was considered flirting in your book. Plus, I didn't want to tell you right off because I wasn't sure of what your reaction would have been. I thought that maybe you wouldn't have told me that you didn't like me. I had to see your reaction. And I had been dropping the biggest hints I could think of without saying your name! Eariler I wanted to slap my forehead because you still didn't get it." Dean sighed. "And what other girls are here that you have seen me around with and can pull decent sentences together?"

"That's why I was so convinced it was a Ravenclaw!" She wasn't smiling. She was happy, thrilled, yes. But she was mad at him too, in a way that would dissipate in about three minutes anyway.
She slapped his arm. "That was really mean, Dean," she told him. "I've been obsessing this whole week about what this girl had that I didn't. I couldn't..." She trailed off, not saying that she couldn't understand why it couldn't have been her.

Dean faked a frown as Jackie slapped his arm. "Mean? I had to figure it out! You were the only girl I can go to! The other ones just look at me, giggle, turn the other way, or let me say something and then it does not even come out a decent sentence." He pulled her closer to him. "It's alright. Don't worry about it anymore. I'm sorry that I made you get angry, but if you liked me too, why didn't you say something in the first place?"

"Because I couldn't say anything if you were head over heels for another girl! I wouldn't do that to you." She said, surprised at how upset she actually was about all of this. She had been miserable since the night he had come to her, and it had been for nothing.
"And I didn't even know until I realized how jealous I was when you were talking about her."

"You were jealous of yourself," Dean sort of asked. He shook his head. "You're really the only girl I know pretty well, and honestly, I've always liked you. You've given me the courage to flirt with you, even though you did think I was just messing around."
He leaned down and kissed her quickly. "You don't have to worry about me liking any other girl. Promise."

Jackie sighed. Surprisingly... or maybe not that surprisingly, his kiss made things seem a whole lot simpler.
She sighed again. "You make it very difficult to be angry with you when you do that. I just couldn't figure out why it would be another girl.. and I didn't know. Maybe it was someone you spent time with in the Ravenclaw common room. I don't see who you talk to there. But... I'm glad it's me."
The idea of losing him was more terrifying that jumping off the roof of the school.

"I told you before that you wouldn't ever lose me," he said. "And of course I'm supposed to make it difficult fo you to be angry with me. It's my job!" Dean smiled. "It's always been you Jackie and it will always be."
It was a relief that she had kissed him. If she hadn't kissed him, then he probably would have just stated that she was his mystery girl. Although, the kiss ended up making things less awkward than what they probably would have been.
"So Ms. Frazier, does this mean that you're my girlfriend?"

Jackie blushed again at the question, and the way he told her it had always been her. Why hadn't she figured it out earlier that he meant her? All of his clues seemed so obvious now that she thought about them.
"I don't know," she said softly. "I guess I am." There was a momentary panic about what this was going to do to their friendship, but really, what changed besides the fact that they could kiss now? "I'd like to be."

"You guess," he asked shocked. "Oh, so you just wanted to kiss me so that you can run around school and tell everyone that you did." Of course he was teasing her, and the look on his face made it even more evident than his voice.
"And since you would like to be, you are. I consider you to be." Dean smiled. "Now I don't have to feel guilty about dragging you places so we could be alone." He moved his eyebrows suggestively, and he started to laugh.

If she thought about, she had pretty much always been his girlfriend. They were known as Jackie and Dean, and they spent so much time together. Jackie wouldn't even allow any other guy than Dean to hold her like he did. She was closer to him than the boyfriends he did have in the past.
"I always suspected you were after something," she teased. "You wouldn't believe how jealous I was..."

"Oh, I could see that you were jealous," said Dean. "Although, it took me a minute to figure it out. Plus, you should know that I don't really talk to many girls and there is only one girl that I know that's really crazy, and that's you."
He smiled again. "I'm sorry I made you jealous of yourself." He gave a shrug. "Of course, now you don't ever have to be jealous of yourself, or anyone else for that matter. You still have me all to yourself."
