Sam didn't sleep at all last night, she had stayed up instead planning the revival of Lyra's plummeting reputation. She realized a magazine article and simply her support wasn't going to fix everything. Lyra needed something big...something perfect.
That something big and something perfect, to Sam's delight, was already on his way.
One of Nicolas' oldest friends and one of Sam's first conquests, although she had to admit she was one of his conquests as well.
Sam didn't measure conquest by sex, but by trust and by caring, and they both had a mutual trust and care for one another, it wasn't love by any means but it was friendship of a tenuous sort.
Still "Big and Perfect" wasn't here for her, he was here for Lyra and Sam needed to sneak him in, which was why she was standing by the entrance hall at four o clock in the morning.

Julian was surprised by Sam's owl requesting his urgent presence, almost demanding it. She sounded desperate yet calm, it was something really only Sam could do in his eyes. Well hell asking for help at all was a point of desperation for her, so how could he resist coming to her rescue?
He wondered what she needed him for. Was he making someone jealous? Was he boosting her reputation? Was he supposed to be madly in love with her? It made him chuckle of course because she was so young, but he had made the mistake of letting her age fool him once, he never would again. Young yes, but she had the mind of a grand master chess player and probably could have gone toe to toe against Napoleon had she put her mind to it. He was simply happy that she trusted him enough to call him.
He had gotten her note around midnight asking him to come and having just finished repairing one relationship he found his schedule surprisingly light and free, he had thought about painting but was lacking inspiration. It was likely that he would find it in whatever Sam was scheming and had replied within the hour that he was on his way.
He took care of a few things first, like booking a place to stay and not really laying down how long he would be in town but he paid well enough that the hotel clerk didn't say anything. He settled in and set up his "home base" as he would call it before going to the castle.
He got there at four exactly which was as good as it got as far as favors went. But, he was the best after all.
He used the side entrance rather than the great doors and tried to see Samantha before she spotted him.

He hadn't succeeded, in fact Samantha noticed him right away and paused. She was noticing more things about men lately and was coming to appreciate the male form. Julian...had a very nice form. She took the time to indulge herself and smile at the picture he offered before stepping out of the shaddows, "Prince Charming arrives..." she practically purred with a delicate smirk on her face.

Julian's back was facing her but at the sound of her voice he whipped around...she had changed. The last time he had seen her she was fourteen...she was almost sixteen now and...yes...she had changed. Subtle hints here and there a bit taller as well but her waist was just as tiny as he had remembered it only now...it was a waist there were hips and...well when did she grow those? His jaw dropped a little before he caught himself and bowing humbly he attempted to clear his mind so that he would not stumble, " Here at my damsel's whims." he smiled roguishly before opening his arms to her.
She didn't run but came quickly enough and gave him a long deserved hug. He squeezed lightly and definitely felt the difference in her frame. It was something he could appreciate which surprised him but he got a hold of himself quickly.
"You've grown quite a bit since the last I saw you."

"Only an inch or so really." she said shrugging innocently thinking he was talking about her height and not really having realized that she had grown an inch in other places as well. She was happy to see him but it was time to get down to business.
"Okay you have to come with me and we have to hurry...I'm hiding you." she teased, taking his hand and leading her back to her brother's room, hoping and praying no one saw them. Not that she was walking in any way that might have indicated they were a couple or anything but it would have been best if no one associated him with her.
Once inside she felt better and at ease. Lyra should have still been knocked out due to the potion which gave Sam time to explain what was going on and what he was to do.

"Hiding me? Ashamed?" he asked teasing in return, but he was curious now. Before she would have immediately caught his innuendo about her growing, something was subtly different about her and it was almost fascinating to watch.
Once they were in another room she began talking and explaining about her "friend" Lyra and what had happened to her and how he was supposed to help. He was genuinely sorry for her "friend" and wanted to help yes indeed. But the surprise that came from her even having a friend was throwing him a bit off. He was honestly surprised and fascinated by the changes in her...dear Lord... Samantha Montgomery had learned to care...that was something he hadn't planned on...he knew her when she was ruthless, and he could see the cracks along the edges where she might have been broken. He had seen her lose her calm and it was a beautiful fury nothing else compared to, he had seen her girlish delight which reminded him of how young she was...but this was the first time he had ever seen her...caring...had ever seen her really protective of someone other than family. It was the first time he had seen the woman in her and he was stunned.
Still he picked up bits and pieces of what she expected of him and it sounded like the perfect job for him. He decided to see who he would be working with and went over to examine Lyra.
"Why...Sam, you didn't tell me she was gorgeous..." he said faintly amused and delighted as he brought his forefinger up to stroke her cheek gently before brushing her hair back behind her ear, he whispered something in French about how he would take her worries away and wondered at how long she would remain unconscious.

Sam knew as soon as the words left his mouth about how pretty Lyra was, that she had made the right decision in bringing him in he was perfect for what she needed, and she was guessing he was exactly what Lyra needed right now too. Glancing at his broad back, all those muscles bunched and moving like a symphony of sin she was further amazed at the gentle touch he seemed to give with his hands that in comparison to Lyra's face were quite large and tanned.
Yes she was feeling quite pleased with herself at the moment and she was now only waiting for Lyra to wake up to discuss this all with her, still that shouldn'tve happened for a few hours at that, Samantha thought that she ought to leave and settle things in her own dorm.
"I'll be back." she promised, " She should be fine resting like she is and I don't expect she'll wake for a few hours I've got a few things I need to take care of first."

Lyra was correct in her assumption that Rystain would be haunting her dreams that night. He had been there as every scene shifted, each time looking more and more attractive and being further and further away from her. It had made her toss and turn all night, but the potion Sam had slipped in her tea the night prior had made it impossible for her to wake up. So she was forced to deal with the impossible to reach Rystain all night. Luckily Lani had not made an appearance which was the only thing that made Lyra smile as she awoke early the next morning.
It took her a moment to register that she was not in her own bed, and not even in her dormitory. She was in Sam's brother's room. His bed was infinitely more comfortable than hers, possibly due to the fact that it was much larger and she had room to spread out while she slept. She was still in her clothes from yesterday, which were now crumpled due to her restless sleep. And her hair was tousled and falling into her face as she sat up. She yawned, stretching her arms up above her head as she looked around the room. She wasn't expecting to be alone, but the man sitting near her was not whom she had expected.
She screamed and jumped out of the bed, backing into the wall. "Who the f*ck are you?" It wasn't the professor but even he would have startled her this early in the morning. She was too groggy to understand that this stranger might have been Sam's doing. The girl was always up to something. Would she really leave this man - this handsome, well-built man - alone with her?

Julian flexed at her scream it was his automatic response instead of yelling back for being startled, his senses became acutely aware was all. He had been writing a bit in his journal, and his mind in outer space when she came to her senses. She looked frightened, and also delightfully rumpled, but that was besides the point. She was liable to attack him the way she was looking at him. Slowly, cautiously he closed his book and put his hands up, "Easy love I come in peace." he said calmly soothingly, his voice was laced with a bit of an Irish accent though not really a discernible one. It only came out when a bit nervous, not that he was nervous now but he was tense all the same.
"Faust..." he answered her at last, "Julian Faust."

She realized too late that her reaction was a bit much. His bulging muscles stiffened at her scream which distracted her momentarily, followed by his soothing voice. He was gorgeous, but still a stranger. She did not know why he was here, and he gave little explanation to assist her. Now her tone changed from startled to annoyed. "And is that supposed to mean something to me? Where's Sam?" The questions were blurred together, the latter more important than the first.

She was something when she was annoyed, this was not the broken weeping girl he was expecting and he was richly amused, his eyes sparkled with good humor and his mouth curved into a lush smile, " Out." he said relaxing putting his hands down and crossing them over his chest, he was fairly certain she wasn't about to hex him dead now and that made him confident.
"She said she'd be back, and that you wouldn't wake for a few hours."

"Clearly she was mistaken. I thought she was better with her potions..." Lyra was talking to herself, her mind still too hurt and fuzzy to think clearly inside her head. She needed to figure this all out and this man, Julian, was not giving her any helpful information. But he didn't seem to be a danger and she moved away from the wall, closer to him. "So what are you doing here?"

"I'm well..I'm a little bit complicated." he said shuffling his feet so that both were on the floor it was an open gesture unconsciously his body language was open and honest, something she hopefully would be more comfortable with.
" But Sam will explain what's going on when she gets back I'm sure..." he nodded to her, "How are you feeling anyhow? Aside from waking up with a stranger in your room."

She giggled at his question. "I hope you don't think you're the first," she joked. His posture made her more at ease, more able to be her old self. But of course Rystain drifted back into her thoughts and she sunk onto the bed. "I don't know. A little out of it I suppose. You know Sam drugged me, right? I'm wondering which is more dangerous; being her friend or her enemy."

Amused Julian leaned back, "Well my dear...you may just be her first friend, although I could tell you that being her enemy is worse than deadly. You'll have to let me know what it's like to be cared for by someone like Sam...I tell you honestly you're in a very enviable position...mind sharing the secret of how it came to be so?"

She didn't quite understand what he meant when he said she was Sam's first friend. Everyone loved Sam. How could she not have any friends back in France. And if that were so, who was this man and what was he doing here if not a favor for a friend? Lyra really wasn't awake enough yet to comprehend all of what was going on. "You want to know how I became Sam's friend? F*ck if I know. I flirted with her brother and then we were friends. Is it really that hard to make friends?" Lyra had plenty of friends, even if most of them were male. Girlfriends were slightly harder to come by, but still not an issue to acquire.
She pondered everything that was going on and then when she found no answers inside her head she let her mind wander. She must look terrible. She had slept in hr clothes, hadn't showered or even brushed her teeth yet. What a lovely first impression she was making. "I must look a fright." She glanced around the room for a mirror to gauge the trauma. She found one, a small one, hanging over a chest of drawers. She was a little too short and had to stand on her toes to see her reflection. She didn't look as bad as she had imagined, but nevertheless her hair could use a nice cleaning spell. That was the moment panic set in.
Where was her wand? She usually kept it strapped to her thigh when she wore skirts and there was nothing there but her garter. "F*ck, where's my wand? Oh sh*t!" What had Sam done with it?

There was a difference in Julian's relationship with Sam. Sam was a friend of Julian's. He'd help her out if she was having a hard time and he'd help her friend because he loved a damsel, but there were very few people that Sam herself would help, and here she was pulling out all these little stops.
Although he found it a bit amusing how poorly she was doing, of course he imagined that she was trying to be helpful letting her friend sleep and whatnot but Sam was new at this whole helping thing.
When Lyra turned concerned about her looks he finally stood and went to the mirror where she was at, they didn't make a bad pair side by side like that and he shook his head voicing softly, " You look beautiful in the morning." he promised her.
When she continued to worry about where her wand was he spoke calmly while going to lean up against a wall.
"If I know her...it shouldn't be that hard to find, she probably put it by the bed somewhere, did you check to side drawer?"
Sure enough that was where Sam had put it.

Lyra rushed to the bedside table and yanked out the drawer. Her wand wasn't there. She hopped over the bed to the other table and yanked it's drawer out too. Her wand rolled to the front of the drawer and knocked against the wood. She gave a loud sigh of relief. She felt naked without her wand, and not the sort of naked that she preferred. "Thanks," she muttered as she tucked her wand into her garter on her right thigh. With Julian's compliment she decided she didn't need to bother with her hair. Her mouth however was another story. She excused herself to the toilet to brush her teeth. Now having her wand, she was able to conjure a toothbrush and used the professor's toothpaste. She felt much better when she reemerged from the bathroom.

His mouth was quirked in an irresistible smile, "So you wake up after a nightmare from hell, to find you don't know where you are, there's a stranger in your room and you don't have a wand, and yet it takes you less than ten minutes to come out looking like that..." he shook his head softly but his eyes didn't stray from hers, "Incredible." he told her softly, but he wasn't saying that her actions were incredible no, his eyes clearly told her that he thought *she* was incredible.

If she hadn't been such a wreck, mentally, she would have been flattered. But her ego was hardly mended after one night. However, she was enough of herself to have a bit of a cocky edge to her tone when she said, "it's not hard when you look like this naturally." She was still Lyra after all, even if she wasn't whole. "And what about you?! You get here, what? Five in the morning. Then you Sam sneaks you in to the castle, and you have to sit here with a strange girl - who you clearly know is pathetic - for only Merlin knows how long. And you still have enough patience to wait until Sam comes back before you fill me in on anything. How do I know you even know Sam? You could have killed her and hid her body before I even woke up..." She grinned a little, knowing the likelihood of this was quite low. But then again, there was a student murdered out by the Forbidden Forest, so she shouldn't be all that trusting. It didn't deter her.
