Zachary followed Derek's gaze and broke into a smile. Although he wasn't related to Nathalia by blood, they had often run into each other at family gatherings. She was quite a bit younger than he was, and it had been a very long time since he'd seen her. She'd grown up... a lot... in those years.
Turning to Edmund, he said. "I'll be right back. Try not to get into too much trouble while we're gone."

Edmund laughed. "Trouble? Me? Zach, you know trouble always finds me." He laughed as Zach walked away. Swirling his drink in his glass, he glanced over to the pretty brunette who had passed by them without a glance. Casually, he slid over along the bar, until he was standing right next to her.
"It seems I've been abandoned by my friends," he said, a devliish smile playing about his lips. "I don't suppose you'd be willing to keep me company for a bit?"

Meanwhile, Zach moved over to where Nathalia and Derek were standing. Merlin, the girl had gotten pretty. But due to her close relation to Derek, she was pretty much off limits. What a pity... "Nathalia!" he greeted her. "It's be a very long time since I've seen you... I bet you hardly even remember me..."

Marietta slowly drank the contents of her glass. Her mind was wandering here and there, but mostly on how she could set up her apartment tomorrow. She knew that when she got back home, depending on how much she drank or how much she did, she would probably start on a few boxes before she actually went to bed.
Her thoughts disappeared as she looked to the side. The man was fairly handsome, and she smiled kindly to be nice. "I don't see why not."

Close friends was a good way to put it, they were related and he would always have her near to his heart, but he didn't crowd her and wasn't as protective of her as he was of his other nieces...oh he was still protective alright, and Zach was right, she was off limits.
If Derek took the time to think about it, he was a bit hypocritical. He wanted good upstanding men for his girls and he wanted them to be the steady, "by your side" type, not like him who was in and out of more beds than he could count.
"Why would she remember you? It's not as if you're important." Derek teased.

Zachary rolled his eyes exaggeratedly. "Oh, aren't you funny this evening?" he drawled. "You know I could have sworn someone sent me an urgent owl asking me to meet him this evening. Seems someone thought I was important."
He held out his hand to Nathalia. "You must have been about 15 the last time I saw you," he said. "You look... well." He gave an appreciative grin, then stepped back respectfully, shooting Derek a glance that said he knew to stay away.

Her thoughts disappeared as she looked to the side. The man was fairly handsome, and she smiled kindly to be nice. "I don't see why not." Edmund smiled back, and stood so one leg was braced against the leg of the bar stool, while the other crossed casually in front of him. "So, I haven't seen you around here before," he commented in a voice that was deceptively light. "Are you new in town?" He decided to lull her in slowly, without turning on the full Fairfax charm.

"I wouldn't really say that I was new," said Marietta. "I just recently returned from traveling for awhile." The man didn't seem like he was any trouble, so she relaxed a bit. "I decided that I would return home for a little while. I sort of missed being here." Marietta gave a shrug.
"I'm Marietta. You are?"

Edmund smiled, still holding back a bit of his charm. "It seems there's quite a lot of that going around. I guess a lot of people had the travel bug, and sooner or later, it starts to wear thin." His tone was easy and friendly. "I, for one, am very glad you decided to return to town now. Hogsmeade is very nice this time of year, when the leaves turn and the weather turns crisp. Perfect weather to snuggle up with someone special." He added a playful wink here, to make it look like he wasn't necessarily hinting at something. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Marietta. I'm Edmund." He held out his hand to her in greeting.

"I've been traveling since I graduated from Hogwarts. I couldn't decide on what I wanted to do so I decided to explore the world, but I agree. It does start to wear thin. There were many lovely places, but it wasn't quite like home." Marietta was relieved that the first person she met when she returned home was at least friendly.
At his next comment, Marietta couldn't help but laugh. There had been one person that she had been able to snuggle up with, but that was during Hogwarts. The two had decided that they were not really meant for each other, so they went their seperate ways but still remained friends.
"It's a pleasure meeting you too Edmund," she said putting her hand in his to complete the greeting.

Nathalia grinned at the attention from her two uncles, the one she was close to and the one she barely remembered. She remembered being slightly intimidated by him when she was 14 or 15, and that was rare because she wasn't intimidated by hardly anyone.
"It has been a while, Zach," she said, and then gave him an impish grin that would tempt most men. "I grew up."

Derek cleared his throat at that look and the one from Zach and he didn't even care that Zach knew to stay away it was another warning shot, he even took a step forward with a raised eyebrow.
"Who let you out of the house with a smile like that?" he asked, though it was more teasing, " You'll bring all the men in this place to their knees and I won't have you breaking my friend's heart here." he said it that way but the warning was in the reverse.

Zachary smiled. "Yes... I can see that," he said, chuckling. "I'm proud to say that I didn't." It was intended as a joke, but there was truth in it. He was stuck, stagnated in one place, no matter how far he had traveled. He was the same person he'd been the year he graduated Hogwarts.
Or was he?
"Tell me, Nathalia, what are you doing with yourself these days?" he asked conversationally.

Lia laughed at Derek's question. "Oh, be quiet, Derek. A few of these guys could stand to be brought to their knees in front of a woman."
She turned her attention back to Zachary. "I've been doing quite a lot. I have a flat in New York that I've been living in for a couple of years now. I heard you were stateside a while back."

Zachary caught Derek's not-so-subtle clue and stepped back another inch. As it was, he was content to just chat tonight; he still had Suzette on his mind. He certainly didn't want to annoy Derek by making him think he was about to put a move on Nathalia. As if he would; they were practically family, even if not by blood.
"Yes, I was visiting the Colonies for a while there. I passed through New York, but only briefly. How did you like it there?"

Nathalia smiled. "I like it. Enough that I still have my apartment there, and I'll go back, eventually. Jadon... Burke," she added, though she was sure she didn't need to. Zach was distantly related to him as well, "stays with me on occassion. I took up art for a while... then a culinary school." She laughed and shrugged in a way that said neither of those escapades had lasted very long.
"What kind of trouble have you two been causing lately?" She asked.

"Trouble? Me?" Zachary said with a grin. There was no need to mention that he had, indeed, managed to get into quite a bit of trouble. They didn't need to know about it, and he sure as hell wasn't keen on talking about it. "Why, I'm offended by the very suggestion. This one here, however--" he said, nudging Derek, "is quite the troublemaker. You never did say where you went after I saw you in Vegas. See anything interesting in your travels?"

Simply put there was something reassuringly tough about Nathalia, she could take care of herself and didn't really need him, that's why he allowed himself to be cavelier around her and not worry so much who was looking, besides he knew that she'd take them down herself if need be.
"What happens in vegas.." he shrugged leaving it there when Zach asked, as a matter of fact however his adventure had been rather tame in Vegas..well, he now owned a casino, but other than that...and there were a few women...but other than that...well he'd better just keep his mouth shut, "You can finish the rest..."

Again, it gave the illusion of being casual, yet seductive. "I bet you've seen some pretty interesting things in your travels. What places have you been? I'd love to hear about them."

"Yeah yeah, well, at least the Brits all finally returned to their country," Nathalia said, looking between them both.
"I imagine the family will want a huge dinner or something for everyone." She ordered her drink, grabbing it and taking a sip before she spoke again.
"Mmm. I make better drinks than this."
