He laughed, " That's not a lot of money but if you think I owe it I'll pay it. After you eat." he said stubbornly then moved to sit in the room with her. He wasn't budging until she ate her soup.
He was the right person to bring her to, but the wrong person to leave her with, without more of an explanation than he was given, especially without talking to Zach. Although Derek kept his business, his business, so no one knew really why he would be acting the way he was acting exceptoddly enough his niece Kassia, and of course the other parties involved.

She narrowed her eyes. "If I eat, will you let me go get a room?"
She didn't think he had poisoned the food... it had just been a sarcastic question. But Merlin knew she did not want to stay here with him.

"No." he laughed, "Although if you ate then I wouldn't have to force feed you." he said, and there was a twinkle in his eyes that couldn't discern whether he was teasing or serious.

"I don't understand," She said, slowly reaching for the soup because she was starved. "You attack me one minute, andthe next, you're Johnny Charity. What's going on?"

"I never attacked you." he scoffed, " I politely escorted you down to the hotel. I thought you'd chicken out when you saw the place, rather I thought you were a gold digger, and I was wrong, so I brought you back here, you're still under my care whether you like it or not, and I had no intention of leaving you in that hotel in the first place. If you are pregnant with my friend's Child and that is a Scotts baby whether you were penniless or the grand dutchess of Russia the Scotts would find a way to own your soul." He took a sip of his own tea, "You picked a hell of a family to entrap Miss Rousseau."

"I'm beginning to see that," Suzie muttered softly. "Would Zach have sent me to you if he didn't know exactly who and what I was? I still think you're little bluff calling was unnecessary and rash."

"Zach didn't bring you here. Justin did, and for the record, if you said you were carrying Zach's baby then yes I would imagine that Justin would bring you here just to make sure you didn't vanish on us with a Scotts on the way."
He shrugged then, "It's a free country you can think what you want...oh wait...that's your country." he smiled at her, " Here we do things the "unnecessary" way."

"Justin brought me on Zach's request. I was at... Jadon's first," she said, trying to remember the kid's name. "And he said you were a good guy. Appearantly our countries have different definitions of good."

He rolled his eyes but then grumbled, "You got my nephew into this?"
Derek was a good man, underneath his bitterness which he hardly showed to anyone. His family would have been surprised at the way he treated Suzie upon meeting her, he was usually so suave with women.
He considered it a biological need of his to have a woman now and then, and he was good at it, but caring for any of them came at much too high a cost and he refused to ever be that stupid again.
"Anybody else you plan on taking advantage of with those big doe eyes of yours Ms. Rousseau?"

Suzie shot him a dangerous look. "I didn't ask to get him involved. That was Justin's idea. And I didn't ask to get Justin involved either. He forced his way into it. And I didn't ask to get you involved. That was Jadon's idea. I didn't ask for Zach's siblings to get involved... Merlin knows I'd be better off if they weren't. So don't harrass me about getting the lot of you involved. I didn't ask to be pregnant or to be abandoned or anything, all right? Get off your pedastol and either let me get that hotel room or try and be a little understanding."

"I believe my dear, that once you spread your legs you're asking for whatever you get. In that case however, so is Zach, *if* the baby's his. Which is another thing...just how many men out there can lay claim to this being their child?" he asked irritated with her reprimand, *he* wasn't the one who had gotten her pregnant, or abandoned her, and if he was...no offense to Zach, but why the hell would someone go after a guy like that was beyond Derek.

"Six or seven," Suzie answered, leveling a cold look in his direction and lying with a flat tone. She was lying, obviously, but she didn't see where she should even both explaining anything to him.

"And a womanizing gambler just happened to be the cream of the crop? Or is the Scott's name that's so alluring?" Derek loved Zach. The man was like a brother to him, but he loved Zach for who he was and he made no silly delusions about changing the guy. Obviously he didn't love Zach for his money or his name since Derek had his own and Derek was a man which did give him more freedom in his acquaintances, but even a woman with a good name and a good fortune would hunt for the best man they could find to snatch up.
Derek cared for Zach just because he was Zach...did this woman love his friend or the name?

"A womanizer gambler just happened to be the most fertile," was her reply, delivered with raised eyebrows.
"Now, can I go get that room, since you obviously aren't going to leave me alone?"
(sorry its short)

"So you're sure it's his then?" he asked, sobering. He had asked her how many guys it could have been she answered 6 or 7 which meant she was sleeping with quite a few people around the time she was sleeping with Zach. Not that *he* was the one to judge, but putting a baby in the mix really was in poor taste.

Suzie sighed, not answering him and getting to her feet after she had finished the soup.
"Thanks for the meal. I'll be chargng my room to your name."
And she was leaving. She shouldnt have had to put up with his crap, and she was too tired right now to keep fighting.

He laughed, " They wouldn't give you the room anyway." he said shaking his head amusement in his eyes, "Besides there's a bed here and it's yours for the night, until the others come for you." He sighed then stretched, "Besides, if you leave I'll only be forced to chase after you."

"Then leave me alone and let me sleep."
She looked at him, her hands on her hips. "That's it, that's the deal. Either you leave me alone, or I walk."

She looked as if she could barely stand. Taking pity on the girl he stood gave her a slight bow, and then left the room.

She waited, but only a moment more, to be sure that he was gone. When she was certain, she collapsed back to the bed, and she was asleep before she could even crawl under the covers. She didn;t feel safe here, but Merlin, she needed the rest.
