Justin almost laughed. "Visiting hours," he mumbled under his breath. Of course such things meant nothing to him. If Susie was actually going to stay overnight, there would be nothing that Dr. Thomas, or any other hospital staff member could do about it. Luckily, however, he had other plans.
When he was sure the woman was gone, he turned back to Susie. "OK, are you ready to go? We should get out of here before she decides to come back and make sure I leave."

Suzie took a breath a nodded.
"I'm ready." They had to go now, anyway, and she wanted out of the hospital. What she hadn't told anyone about was the pain in her stomach since the test, and she just assumed it was because of the test. Not being a doctor, she had no way of being sure.
"Run through this with me again, please, while we head there. How long do I stay there?"

Justin stood up and held out his hand to help her up. "You can stay there until you feel like you're ready to take the test again. After that... well, we'll figure the rest out after we know the results. If it's Zachary's... well, ideally, you'll get married quickly. And I guess if it's your fiance's, you'll go back to California and marry him."
He didn't know of the other options that had been discussed by his father and Tanya, but even if he had, he wouldn't have told her about them.

Suzie just nodded, too tired at this point to ask any more questions or argue.
Ideally. That world played over in her mind, and she wanted to laugh. What about this was in any way ideal?
She took his hand, sneaking out of the hospital with him without another word. She was ready to lay the situation into someone else's hands.

He didn't mind the silence as the two of them slipped out into the hall and wound their way back to the front desk. He peered around the corner and waited until the witch at the reception desk had her back turned, then he led Susie to the front door.
Once they were outside, he made sure the sidewalk was clear before apparating with her to Benjamin and Emma Burke's house.
"All right," he said, turning to her. "I'll just stay until you're settled in, and then I have to get back to my father... who is going to kill me when I tell him you're gone."

"I sincerely hope you don't mean that literally," Suzie said softly. She was worried about him, and she didn't want him to get in trouble.
"I don't know why you chose to help me, Justin, but I owe you." She smiled softly and leaned towards him, kissing his cheek before he could knock on the door, and then she waited for him to do so.

"No, not literally," he said. He almost added, "I hope," but managed to bite his tongue. "But between my father and Tanya, I'm going to be in some serious trouble."
The rest of what he was about to say died on his lips as she leaned in and kissed him on the cheek. For a quick moment, he lost his train of thought. He had to hand it to Zach, he sure could pick them. He took a deep breath and met her eyes. "I'm doing this for the baby," he said. "And because.. well, because you remind me of my sister." Except that he'd never felt like that when his sister had kissed him on the cheek. "I could give a damn about Zach. He screwed this up badly. But you shouldn't have to pay for it, and neither should your baby. And if he won't take responsibility..." He let his words hang in the air. as he turned and knocked on the door.

He may have said it was for the baby, but she knew that he was doing it for her, too, and maybe because she did remind him of his sister.
"Whatever the reason, and whatever happens, thank you," she said, before the door opened.

Jadon raised his eyebrows, looking between Justin, who was fairly close to him in age, and the girl at his side. She sort of looked like hell, but underneath what he assumed was a layer of stress and exhaustion... or maybe that look prostitutes got over time, he wasn't sure... he could tell that she was pretty.
He stepped outside and closed the door behind him. "Hi Justin... Miss. What can I do for you?"

Justin spoke quickly. "Oh, hi, Jay," he greeted his cousin. "I--we--need some help, and I was hoping I could cash in a favor your father owes me. This is Suzette Rousseau, and she needs to hide out here for a while. My father and aunt can't find out. Is your father here?"
He didn't want to say too much until he knew if she would be able to stay here. He wished he'd had time to write to Benjamin before bringing her here.

Jadon licked his lips, just imagining what kind of help Justin needed with the girl. He gave Suzie an apologetic look before asking the question on his tongue.
"Is she pregnant?"
It seemed like the next logical question to ask. "Justin, if she's pregnant... she can't stay here."

Justin sighed at the question. How Jadon had figured it out so quickly, he had no idea. "Yes, she is. But it's not mine, I assure you," he added quickly. "It's... well, she's not sure whose it is. But it might be Zach's. What do you mean, she can't stay here? Look, it'll just be for a couple of days... we just need to keep her away from my father and aunt."

"Oh, really? Your aunt and your father who are coming over for dinner tomorrow?" He asked, giving Justin a very pointed look. "How are we supposed to hide her if they're here?"
He sighed, and looked at Suzie again. "But I know where you can take her instead."

Justin hadn't been expecting that. "They're... coming for dinner tomorrow?" he repeated, faltering. Damn... no one had bothered to tell him of their dinner plans. Jay was right; it wouldn't be possible to hide her here if Dad and Tanya were coming for dinner. "I didn't know about that. Where else can she go?"

Jadon wanted to ask a lot of questions about where Zach might be, and why he wasn't here trying to hide her, but he decided to save the questions for later. It perhaps wasn't best to ask in front of the lady.
"Uncle Derek's in town... and I'm sure... he's Zach's friend. He'd understand."

Justin let out a sigh of relief. Yes, Derek would be perfect. He was good friends with Zach, and, to his knowledge, was not especially fond of Thatcher. "Yes, that'll work," he said. He looked at Susie. "Do you mind the change of plans? Derek is a good guy, and if I explain the situation to him, he'll take you in without any qualms."

Suzie nodded slowly, her eyes on Jadon, as if trying to decide if she could trust him.
Finally, she looked back at Justin. "Yes, that's fine. I'm just tired and would like somewhere to sleep. It doesn't matter where anymore."

Jadon nodded. "He'll be fine... he's a good guy. I'd give him a call, but... now's a bad time here. He won't mind, I promise."
His eyes strayed back to Justin. "And can you and I talk later?"

Justin nodded. "Yeah, sure, Jay. It's not like I'm terribly anxious to get home after this. I'll take Susie to Derek's, then we can meet somewhere for drinks. Godric knows I'm going to need it after the night I've had. The Leaky Cauldron OK with you?"

Jadon nodded. "Yeah, I'll meet you there in about an hour."
He took Suzie's hand and kissed her knuckles. "I'm sure I will see you again soon, cheri. Take care, all right? Derek'll take care of you for a while."
He nodded to the both of them and waited until they were gone to go back inside, making up a lie about who was at the door.
