Derek's brows rose at that brush off, but once again he wasn't deterred, he followed her up the steps and nodded to the man at the door. They knew him well here, and he rarely had brought the same girl twice but he spent enough money at the establishment to ensure privacy and respect.
He walked in with her and nodded, "I just want to make sure you get settled in right." he said still waiting for her to be caught in her bluff. She couldn't afford this place...could she?

"I told you I was all right," Suzie said, only now getting a little irritated with him. He had made a point of acting like she was inconveniencing him, and now she couldn't get rid of him. It didn't help that she still hadn't eaten much more than toast for the last two days now, and she still felt a bit in pain.
She tried to ignore him as she stepped up to the desk, asking for a room. When she was given a price, she didn't even bat a lash and pulled out the proper amount. She had no idea that all of this had been a test.

He had rarely been surprised by people, it was one of the things that the Dark Lord valued in him, one of the things that kept him alive in the business that he was in. When she pulled out the amount without even batting an eyelash he was surprised, and he was angry, not at her but himself...and maybe a bit like her.
"Thank you we won't be needing that room." he said taking the money she was handing over. The person behind the register had given him a dirty look anyway as if to ask why he wasn't paying, at another time he might have told the guy off but he was too concerned with Suzie.
He took her by the arm gently, but remembering what she said about not being touched he quickly released her and grabbed her purse instead then headed for the doors expecting her to follow.

She faltered. "Wh... wait, what?" She gave him a look the same time the man behind the desk did. She didn't know what was going on any more than that poor clerk did. She reached for her money as she tried to pull away from him, and then he had her purse and her money and he was walking away. What the hell?
"Excuse me," she said, angry, and started after him. "That's mine. Give it back." She quickened her steps to catch up, and reached out, grabbing her purse.

"Yeah?" he asked, they were outside now which was good because he didn't want to cause more of a scene, "Not when you take out a small fortune like it was nothing it's not." he said shortly, "You won't last long if you're used to just carrying that much money around with you." he growled at her.
His anger wasn't at her, not really, but himself. Okay so she was rich, okay so he miscalculated. But that miscalculation could have gotten the woman who may or may not have been pregnant with one of his best friend's children, killed for her purse which she flashed the contents about. The thought sickened him really as he imagined a purse thief or a cut throat doing a quick job of it to take her money. Bad move Derek.

"I just got into town and figured I'd have to find a room!" She said, her hand still on her purse, and she tugged, ripping away from him.
She held out her hand. "The money. I'm afraid I don't have enough on me to pay for that room twice."
She was angry at him, which made two of them, and she wanted to hit him. What was he, some kind of theif? Godric, the whole family was insane.

"Ha!" he said but frowned afterward, "So you don't have enough money for that room! Why in the hell would you spend one thousand dollars, which by the way will need to be converted to galleons as soon as possible and then put into a bank,"he mumbled logically, " on a room you can't afford?" he asked confused. He had wanted to prove she was a gold digger...but she didn't make much sense.

She stared at him, open mouthed for a minute, before her eyes hardened and she slapped him. It had taken a moment, but she realized what he was trying to imply, and it pissed her off.
"Give me the money," she hissed at him, her voice low. She didn't need to explain herself to him, or the fact that the amount of money she had on her was not the same as the amount of money she had total. "Give me the money and leave me the hell alone!"

He was caught off guard by the slap but when he turned towards her he was at a growling point, his eyes darkened and he was really tempted to just leave her there like she asked. Instead he dropped the money pulled his wand and incinerated it. Felt good...for all of five seconds but then he looked at her and readied himself for another attack.
"You wouldn't last a day." he said with his eyes narrowed, "It's me or hell Miss Rousseau, and trust me all it takes is one phone call to have you blacklisted from any respectable hotel, and a few non respectable ones as well. So I suggest you come with me."

She felt like she had stepped into hell. It was overwhelming, and all she wanted was to lay down.
"F*ck you," She spat and turned on her heel, her steps quick and determined, leadng her back into the hotel. She would just have to transfer some money from an account, which she had hoped not to do since it made it easy for Taylor to track her if he wanted. She didn't need his help, and as soon as she dropped her father's name, he couldn't black list her from anywhere.
And she was angry with Zach and Justin for this. They both obviously knew this psycopath would treat her like this.

Oh her name, he was going to make sure he found out all there was to know about her name and who she was. He didn't recognize it which is why he didn't make the connection to prominence, it had been too long since he had been in America and the last time he was in California...well that had been a brief affair.
Watching her walk away he followed her silently annoyed by her opposition and firm will. Women weren't supposed to have firm ills they were supposed to produce tears and ask for help, or marriage which he had assumed Suzette was doing to his friend Zach.
All in all if she wasn't after Zach's money then perhaps he did owe her an apology...it wasn't likely though. He didn't like to apologize.
" Where are you going?"

"What part of leave me alone didn't you understand?" She asked, still walking briskly, and further ignoring him.
She lead him back inside and up to the desk again.
"I'm terribly sorry, but I would still like that room please." She glanced at Derek. "And if you follow me, I swear I'll hurt you so badly your future children will feel it."

He resisted the smile at that, spunk. Nice. He shook his head, and then looked at the desk clerk, with a silent stare that made the man leave his post, it was late enough that no one really needed him, plus Derek was a regular.
"Look, They put you in my care and that's where you're going to stay. No no, don't threaten me anymore. I was wrong about you and I'll admit that. Zach is a good friend of mine and you're not the first person to use the pregnancy bait to snag a rich husband. Zach's honorable enough to go through with it despite what Thatcher does to him. So you can hardly blame me for wanting to protect my naive friend. From someone who's just after his money, if you care anything for him, then you can't be mad at me. If you care for him that is. Do you?" he asked this time his voice softened and he was trying to read her reactions and her answer to his question. He had judged her falsely once, he wouldn't do so again.

"You are unbelievable," Suzie said, watching as the clerk disappeared. "Great. Wonderful. What next, are you going to handcuff me and lay me down on a set of train tracks? What do I have to do to get away from you? You're scaring the hell out of me. And if you had stopped to think for one second about who brought me to you, you'd realize that I've already gone through a round of tests. Justin wouldn't bring just anyone. I had to go through hell just getting past him to Zach. And I want. A. Bed," she emphasized each of these last words with little shoves to him until her stomach siezed up and she gasped lightly, setting a hand to her stomach.

He rolled his eyes, and opened his mouth to explain once again to her that it was a simple misunderstanding when she gasped he was instantly aware of her, and he reached for her slightly, his eyes simple, honest and direct. He wouldn't hurt her, but they needed to get out of there, get her a bed, and perhaps even a doctor. Without pause he lifted her off her feet gently and apparated them back to his apartment getting her to that bed despite her protests.
"Don't struggle, you're safe I promise..." he said but he was a little frightened of her being in pain. "Relax. I promise I'm not going to hurt you."

Suzie struggled, but only weakly. She was too concerned about the pain in her stomach, but she snapped her attention back to him when he lifted her off the guard.
"No, please, let me get a room and-"
And they apparated. She was scared of him. Everything he had done and said to her tonight told her to be scared of him, and she didn't find it so easy to trust him all of a sudden. She found it a little hard to trust anyone at this point, actually.
Once on the bed, she pulled her knees to her chest and watched him warily.

He sighed knowing that she would find it hard to trust him now, but she wasn't too concerned about her trust.
She had mentioned earlier that she had been put through the tests through the family, but the truth was it wouldn't have mattered if it were a Scotts baby in her belly. It hadn't mattered for Derek and it didn't matter to Zach.
He made his way to the bar in the room and fixed himself something to drink then he left her room all together.
He was back in ten minutes with a tray of soup, loaf of bread, and a potion.
He also had tea for her..

She honestly didn't know what to make of him. He just left her, silently, and she found it odd, but she liked it nonetheless. She didn't want to deal with him, at all. He had harrassed her and near enough attacked her, and stolen her money.
She glanced up when he came back, not having moved since he left, and eyed the tray. "Should I be worried about Poison?"

"Trust me darling I'm the least of your problems." he quipped back, "'Now sit up and eat, your stomach's empty. The tea will relax you and the potions in case you can't sleep."

"Funny," she said. "You're the only thing I do see as a problem right now."
She let her legs fold into an Indian position though, and she sighed, knowing she was hungry, but she didn't want to take anything from this man. She didn't want his help, or his charity, or his sudden concern.
"You owe me a lot of money."
