Zachary laughed heartily at this. "Oh, well, we can't have that, now can we, Justin? We single men must stick together." Turning back to Tanya, he raised an eyebrow at her. "But what about you? I don't see a wedding ring on your hand. Any chance Alec is going to be making an honest woman out of you anytime soon?"

Tanya had just taken a bite of food and imediately choked on it. She quickly grabbed her wine, as she removed her hands from torturing Alec. Well now that had been unexpected. She was shooting daggers at her brother over her drink while she tried to catch her breath and think of a nasty and scathing remark. She seriously doubted Alec would ever marry her, none of the men she was with ever cared for more from her than the sweet torture she could offer them until one of them tired of the game and moved on.

Zachary grinned. Somehow, he rather enjoyed seeing her put on the spot on the marriage issue just this once. In truth, he didn't really mind if Tanya preferred not to marry. It would have been hypocritical of him. Still, he'd been hit with the marriage issue every time he came back after one of his trips. And although this was the longest he had been away, it seemed he still couldn't escape the question.
"Turnabout is fair play, Tanya," he said, giving her a wink.

Tim watched as the exchange went on between his uncle and aunt. Nearly bursting out in laughter it was hard to contain himself, he had always been the more loving one in the family and it was good to have everyone here again. Even if Mr. Mapplethorn seemed to not appreciate his situation it was good to have him here too. Deciding it was time to unleash the news he had been keeping in for so long, he crossed his fingers under the table.
"Um.... Well I have some news, I found someone." Grinning wildly he began to blush immediately after words left his lips, he knew this would either go over well or not but either way he had to take his chances.

Tanya for one was grateful for the interruption and smiled widely. "Well of course the first of the clan would be you to find someone, who is she and when do we get to meet her?" Of course her next question would be who her parents were, because bloodlines were everything.

Timmy smiled as his aunt Tanya began assaulting him with questions, he loved talking about Kat. "Um, well her name is Katarina Gresh and she's amazing and perfect and wonderful." Pausing for a moment he hoped beyond everything he would be able to pull this off and convince his family she was a pureblood witch. "Well maybe I can bring her to next dinner and everyone can meet her!"

Gwen shot a look at Timothy. He wasn't seriously doing this, was he? Hadn't he just told her the other day that Katarina wasn't a pureblood? What was he thinking, having the parents meet her?
She gave him a tight smile that she hoped he read. "I take it she said yes when you asked her to the dance, Tim?"

Justin looked over at Timothy, "Is that the girl you..." He realized he'd been about to admit he'd been around longer and switched his words, "is she anyone we know?" He smiled at his brother though. If one of the Scotts boys managed to get married, maybe eventually he could avoid it all together.

Tim noticed the hint that Gwenny was dropping and he gave her a look that said if it wasn't now it was gonna be later. Nodding his head vigorously in response to Gwen's question. "Yes, she did but I had to change the manner in which I asked a little bit." Turning to face his older brother he smiled as Justin almost gave away his secret. "No, I don't think so. Her family is a very low class wizarding family." He sat silently hoping his story would be believed.

If Gwen hadn't been in front of Tanya and Zachary, she would have groaned. As it was, she had to fight from doing it.
She could already tell he was lying, based on what he had told her before, but if he was going to lie, why would he say she was from a low class family? That didn't help. That didn't help at all, and she could already hear her father's questions.

Sure enough, Thatcher raised an eyebrow. "How low class?" he asked. "A union with a family that has no name or money is hardly beneficial, Timothy," he said, setting his wine glass down. His son did say a wizarding family, so at least she had the right blood.

Tanya frowned at the low class part of that. But he had said wizarding family and she assumed he meant at least a pureblood family as was expected of him. "She's not a Slytherin by chance is she?" It was doubtful but she could hope.

Tim stared at his father as he spoke of a marriage being beneficial to the family. The urge to yell out in frustration almost came over him, looking around at everyone else around the table he decided it was best to keep the peace. "First of all father no one said anything about marriage. I asked her to a dance not for her hand in marriage." Shuffling his feet under the table he hoped his father would not kill him for this next statement. "Also, yes she has no name or wealth of note but I decided I like that better than those spoiled, worthless witches from one of the other families, like the Blacks."
A small shiver ran up his spine as he thought of the horrible family known as the Blacks. "No Auntie, she's in hufflepuff like me.."

Gwen saw her father's jaw tick, and then his mouth open.
"Oh, look!" She exclaimed, trying hard to interrupt him. "Dinner is ready!"
Indeed, the small house elf was carrying out platters now and levitating them to spots on the table.
She sent a heated look at her brother. What was he thinking? Now was not the time to bring this up. Not in front of Justin, and Tanya, and Zachary, not to mention a guest, Alec. She tried to will him to shut up.

Xavier couldn't believe the nerve of Timothy, discussing such things in the presence of the entire family. He felt like he should say something, to change the subject, but thankfully, the food was served at that precise moment. He glanced at his uncle Zachary, who he really only knew as a picture and a name. His expression was unreadable, and Alec seemed to be completely focused on Aunt Tanya.

Thatcher eyed his daughter. He knew exactly what she was trying to do, but it wasn't going to save her brother.
This was definitely the last straw. When dinner was finished, and he could get Timothy alone, words would be exchanged, certainly. Things were changing as of tonight. In fact... he should have Thane and Gwen in the room as well.
But for now, they had guests to entertain. "We'll talk later, Timothy. Tibby, could you bring more wine, please?"

Tanya's eyes narrowed. She wondered vaguely if anyone noticed one little student going suddenly ill and dying. The thought amused her at least. She still loved her nephew, but he obviously needed some serious guidance. She was sure her brother would take care of the matter though and dropped it for now. Besides dinner had arrived and she was famished now. Under the table of course she'd gone back to her miniture torture of Alec with her foot and free hand. Meanwhile she began to eat her dinner with a pleasant look on her face. Her thoughts drifted between Alec, and her family being together again.

Zachary listened to all this silently. He felt, quite honestly, as if he was intruding on a private family moment. He barely remembered Timothy, who had always been very quiet when he was around. And he was certainly the last person to care whether someone was involved with a muggleborn, or a woman from a low-class wizarding family. He was quite certain that if his brother or Tanya had an inkling of some of the things he had done in his travels, they would cast him out of the house without a second thought. The less they knew about his activities, the better.

Alicia was happy that Timothy had found someone. She didn't really mind if the girl was of a lower class stature, as long as Tim was happy. Of course, she knew that Thatcher wanted their children to marry into a high class pure-blood family, but if they were happy it shouldn't really matter what class they were in. Every child was smart and could be able to hold a family on their own even if they had to do work in order to have more money.
She gave Gwen a quick 'thank you' glance. It would have turned into an argument at dinner had it not been for her intervention. As Tibby returned with more wine, Alicia thanked her. She wanted to ask them about the ball, but it would probably turn into a possibly touchy subject, so she made a mental note to gather them later and ask.
"I hope you all enjoy," she said as Tibby laid out the food. "I also made a dessert, so don't fill up to quickly."

Thane had kicked Tim under the table earlier when he'd opened his mouth. Now was not the time to upset father. The fact he knew Tim was lying through his teeth also had something to do with that. Luckily dinner came right on cue and he was the first to dig in. He was a growing boy of 14 and that meant he was always pretending to be a hoover and could eat with the best of them. Especially when it came to mum's cooking. "It's delicious mum!"
