Rystain stood on the pitch looking at a few of the slytherin students who had shown up for tryouts today. He'd posted the tryouts on the common announcement board for over a week ago and he hoped that Seth would show. The boy was good with strategy and was sure a fair flyer as well. And even though they weren't having any official games this year due to the quad-wizard tournament going on, they were still holding practices to make sure that next year their team would be up to winning and not out of shape or practice.
This was Rystain's last year as Slytherin Quidditch Captain, and he'd have to find someone to replace him for next year. Seth's knack for strategy would be good for the team and he hoped the boy showed, so he could see what kind of flying skills he had. And of course.. how well he could catch a snitch.
He hoped a few better candidates showed up besides the ones that were already here.
((updated - this is only for practice teams, since there aren't any official games this year going on))

Lani had seen the flyer for the quidditch tryouts, and while she really had no intention of trying out, she was curious to see what kind of talent showed up today.
She had wandered down to the pitch and sat in the stands, on the Slytherin side, of course. It was habit by now.
There were only a small handful of students below. More should show, she thought, or at least hoped. Rystain already looked like he wasn't expecting much.

Rystain saw someone walking in the stands above out of the corner of his eye and looked up. He realized it was Lani and he would have winked if he thought she'd be able to see it from there. Instead he just looked up until he knew she'd seen him looking at her and then went back to the business at hand... scoping out the hopefulls and wishing someone with an ounce of talent would show up.

She smiled when she realized his attention was on her, and he might have been able to see it, but she gave no other indication that she had seen him. He had work to do, afterall.
Sitting down, she relaxed as she watched the team hopefuls arrive. Quidditch, to her, was a guilty pleasure. She played with her brother on occassion, and she wasn't bad.

Rystain looked at his timekeeper, they were still early and he had a few minutes he could spare so he told the little group that he'd be right back and hoped onto his top of the line quidditch broom and flew over to the stands where Lani sat alone. "Hello beautiful, come to watch the tryouts or just see me sweat?" He grinned roguishly at her.

Lani leaned forward, setting her elbows on the rail in front of her. "A little of both," she replied impishly. She wasn't about to deny that he did look good sweaty.
"Is it just you, today? The rest of the team doesn't have to help you?"

"No I have a few of the team on their way still, they're probably just getting ready still. We have a few mintues before their due anyways. I just hope we get more people trying out today, so far I'm not really impressed with the ones who turned out." He sighed but winked at her comment

"You haven't even seen them fly yet," she pointed out. That didn't say much for the hopefuls down on the field. "As much as I hate to say it, you might want to consider recruiting Rabastan. He's a very talented chaser, actually." she sighed and leaned back.
"I don't know any good seekers though. You need someone aggressive. That was the problem with your last one... He was too afraid of getting hurt, and that's exactly why he did get hurt in the end."
She realized she was talking to him about his job and she shrugged. "That's all my opinion, anyway."

Seth had seriously considered not going to the tryouts, he also seriously considered actually going to the tryouts.
He wasn't sure which consideration won until he found himself standing on the quidditch pitch with his broom in hand. Seth looked around and saw a few others from his house who were trying out. He analyzed them, trying to see if he could see their weaknesses. Quidditch was just like chess, it was strategic, and Seth's strategy was figuring out how to crush the opposition early on.
He laughed to himself. Hey, He was a competitive person.

"You sound pretty knowledgeable yourself.. why don't you try out, Lani? As much as I'm sure Rabastan would be good as a chaser, if he doesn't show up to the tryouts I'm not going to go searching him out unless there is just no other better options." He gave her his most charming and convincing smile followed with his best puppy eyes in hopes it would get her to at least give in to trying out.
He saw someone else enter the field from the corner of his eye then, and turned to look at who it was. Seth! Yes! He was inwardly elated that seth had decided to show up after all. He might end up with good replacements after all... Rystain, still on his broom in the air just outside of the wall on the stands, waved down at Seth in a type of salute of thanks for showing up that he was sure only Seth would interpret.

Lani shook her head. "I don't play," she said, giving him an apologetic look. "Besides, someone down there has to be able to catch a quaffle."
And then he gave her those damned eyes, and she sighed, rolling her eyes at him. "Stop it. Don't you think if I actually played I would have been on the team by now?"

"Well that depends on how you look at it... you might already have been on the team if you ever tried out for it. Which I know for a fact you never have." He winked at her knowingly. He really couldn't say he knew what her skills were at quidditch other than she could discuss it and had made a very accurate assumption about what she'd noticed. And he really wanted to see if she had what it took. If she'd ever take the time to try out that is.

Well, he had her there. She never did try out for the team, though she had always considered it.
What could it hurt, anyway? She liked to play. She just didn't know if she was up to par with the rest of the team, and she thought that might make him think less of her.
"I don't have a broom," she said. It was one of those statements that told the other person that you already gave in, but were making a last ditch effort.

"Well you're in luck then because we happen to have spares just for practice in the equipment room. I'll can fix that easy enough." He wasn't ready to give up on her. And although he might not chase a woman for personal reasons, he could be stubborn and chase after what he wanted with the best of them when it came to quidditch or some other goal he wanted to achieve.

She rolled her eyes again, and tried to think of another excuse to get out of trying out, but she had nothing.
"Oh, all right," she murmured, knowing she was giving in far too easily. "But I'm not trying out for seeker at all, and no cute face of yours is going to change that." no, she was a chaser through and through, and she knew it. She stood up. "I'll get a broom and meet you on the field."

"You may be my savior yet." He grinned boyishly, happy she'd at least given in to try out. The better his options the better his team would be. "And we'll see how you do before we decide on any positions." He wasn't making any promises either way, he wasn't sure what position she'd be good at.. although if his guesses of Seth were any indication and if Lani's potential was as good as he hoped, he might be able to fill both positions and still have a happy Lani on his hands.
"See you on the field, Lani.. " He said softly leaning in on his broom to give her nose a kiss before jetting down onto the field. He wondered idly what she'd look like in quidditch robes and smiled wider.
When he reached the ground of the pitch he hoped off his broom and walked over to Seth. "Glad to see you made it after all."

Not if he made her try out for seeker, she thought to herself, waving him off.
She made her way down to the equipment room, looking over the selection of brooms. They're weren't any especially good ones, but if it came down to it, she could always use her brother's.
Taking one of the less beaten brooms in her hands, she tied her hair back and headed out to the pitch, silently cursing rystain on the way.

When he reached the ground of the pitch he hoped off his broom and walked over to Seth. "Glad to see you made it after all." "Yea well," Seth said, shrugging. He jerked his head back at the others trying out. "If I didn't show, you'd have to piuck one of these wonderful contestants," He smirked. Seth looked up to wear Seth had been talking to Lani. "Is Lani trying out?"

"Yeah, she is. A shame we aren't having any real matches this year but it doesn't hurt to keep the team in shape and ready for next year. But I want to have a good team in place for next year's captain to take over," Rystain explained. He really hoped Seth's potential would show up today. He would like to hand it over to someone he could trust to do well for several years.

"Good to see you came out, Seth," Ryan said, coming across the field and joining his team captian and the Slytherin boy.
He glanced over his shoulder at the handful of other students ready to try out.
"It's going to be a terribly long day, Quandry, you know that?"
