Rystain chuckled under his breath at Ryan's comment, he knew exactly what he meant. He was feeling the same way already. His only relief was the fact that Seth and now Lani had shown up. "Tell me about it.. I'm just curious how many we'll drop from the sky in the first few minutes..." He knew there would likely be a few injuries today once the bludgers got loose... especially between himself and Ryan.. they wouldn't go easy on anyone. And it was going to be a very very long day.

Samantha wasn't there to try out, not in the least but she was waiting for the field to be cleared so she could practice flying in case she needed it for the tournament, she wasn't half bad really, she wouldn't be proficient in Quidditch mostly because her mother didn't let her play but she imagined it would be fun to play just not competitively, Sam wasn't sure she could play any sort of game non-competitively and she didn't think she was good enough to play quiddich enough to win.
Still it was fun to sit there and watch her house's team.

Lani came out onto the field, unsure if she should join the three boys, or the other Slytherins who were waiting around.
She was in regular school robes, but they would do. Her hair was up, and she had managed to find a spare pare of small gloves.

Ryan whistled when he saw her come out.
Lani was the last person he expected to see on the field today.
"You do know this is for Quidditch, don't you?" He teased her. She always struck him as so feminine and not the type to get dirty or sweaty.

Sam loved when a female surprised them, and even though she and Lani had gotten off on the wrong foot she was silently rooting for the girl to do well, but Lani seemed to at least look as if she knew what was going on. Sam moved towards the bleacher like seating area and took a seat.

Rystain was used to Ryan, and generally ignored him whistling at Lani. Although he was sure that his own thoughts had a differnet type of whistle in mind than Ryan seemed to. She'd left him a moment ago all pretty female, and now she looked like she was ready to get dirty. He remembered all too well just how female she was and something about seeing her ready to sweat made his temperature rise. And he liked that Lani could surprise him.
He noticed Sam in the stands but his attention turned to Ryan then. "I think we only have a couple more minutes to see who else shows up, did you want to get the equipment out and then we can give them all a good run?"

Lani gave Ryan a look. "Yes, I know this is for Quidditch," she said, and in that moment, she wanted to do exceptionally well just to show him that she wasn't all ribbons and pearls. And she wanted Rystain to see that as well.
She followed Rystain's gaze to the stands, and then raised an eyebrow at him. "Are you going to make her try out, too?"

Ryan just smiled at her. "Yeah, we'll see what you're made of, Princess," he told her jokingly. Hey, if she was good, she was an asset. It didn't stop him from teasing her.
"Yep," he said to Rystain. "I'm on it. And I'm with you... half them are gonna dropped in five minutes. Can we make a rule that anyone not on a brook after the first round should just leave?"
It was mean, perhaps, but those who didn't survive would not be good players, and he didn't have time for them today.

He answered Lani without thinking "No, I don't normally ask girls to try out." He didn't explain the fact that he'd asked her for selfish reasons, that and she had shown a knowldege of the sport he hadn't expected in her. Plus there was something about wanting to see her sweating that made him smile.
He nodded to Ryan, "Yeah, if they can't even stay on a broom for five minutes with only two of us trying, they'd never even make it through the first day of practice." Rystain had a reputation for being hard on the team, but he expected only the best and if you messed up you'd be doing it again until you got it right only the next time it would be harder.
He was serious when it came to quidditch, and he didn't mind his team being underhanded to win, as long as they didn't get caught at it. But he valued more the ones who actually had more to contribute to the team, ones who had skills enough no not have to rely on anything but their own merrits.

"Perfect," Ryan said, glad that Rystain was on the same wavelength as him.
"I'll be back in a couple of minutes then," he said, giving Rystain time to address all those trying out, or whatever he wanted to do, and he turned to head to the equipment room, giving Lani a once over and noticing the look on her face as he walked by.

Lani didn't know if she should be offended by his answer to her or not. He didn't normally ask girls to try out... but he had not only asked her, but pushed until she gave in.
She shifted the broom to her other hand, and was quiet, waiting for intructions on what to do. She'd let his comment go, and wonder why he had asked her later. Right now, the way those two were talking, she figured she had better start concentrating, and she was determined not to go down in the first five minutes.

As soon as Ryan walked off to get the equipment, he checked the time one last time before deciding that he'd waited long enough. Anyone else that showed up would just have to work harder to prove they deserved to stay. He turned to the group that had gathered, what a motley crew it was laughable. He was sure there would likely have been better canidates had it been an official season but he wasn't about to let that stop him.
As he walked to the front of the little group everyone seemed to quiet down to hear him and that saved him the trouble of telling them to shut their traps. "Alright this is how things are going to work. Listen up or you can leave now, I'm not going to explain myself twice. So pay attention. First of all, as you all should know this is not an official quidditch season this year with the tournament going on, however we are going to make sure we keep up a full team for unoffical skirmish matches with other houses and to generally ensure the Slytherin Quidditch team keeps it's legacy up to standards for next year. This means, I will not go easy on you or let anyone slack off. Instead you can expect this to be the most grueling and difficult year of practice you're going to have, that next year will seem like a breeze. If you can't handle it you might as well leave now." It was all true, but it was also worded to see how many walked out before it even began. And of course there were a few who left. Good riddance, the thought.
"Those of you who are staying, will have five minutes to stay on your brooms and avoid the bludgers comming at you. If you fail to remain on your brooms or manage to get injured leave immediately or head to the hospital ward. Those of you who remain will be allowed to continue to the next phase of testing your aim, with the bludgers still aimed at you. The final task will be to catch the snitch. The first person to catch the snitch while dodging the bludgers will become the next seeker. Am I understood? Good." He didn't wait for an answer, he wasn't going to repeat himself. "Everyone on your brooms and get ready. Oh and one more thing... We'll be using four bludgers today instead of the normal two. Enjoy." He hoped onto his broom and flew up into the air waiting for them all to mount and get ready.

Sam's brows rose at Rystain's dictates, she was smiling though fairly impressed and was going to watch with avid curiosity this new team of quidditch players. Briefly she entertained the thought of trying out herself but put the silly notion away, she was good on a broom, she knew because it was one of her favorite things to do, but she couldn't catch a ball, she couldn't hit one, she could dodge them perhaps only because she had become an expert at dodging things her mother threw at her, but she would never do well as seeker and there were about a million other positions that just wouldn't work. That wasn't to say that she wasn't fascinated with it all.
Her father had played, and he was good, one of the best or at least she believed so. She wondered how different she would be if her father raised her instead but shook the thought away and focused more on the players.

"And we're not going easy on you just because you're a girl," Ryan said, catching Lani offguard when he returned with a box that seemed to be jumping in his arms and two clubs. He passed the girl and mounted his broom, passing one of the clubs to Rystain.
"On your word, Ryst," Ryan said, ready to release the bludgers when all the students were up in the air and the team Captain gave th mark.

Rystain finally saw that everyone was in the air and flew down to grab the club from Ryan before flying back up ready to get started. "HEADS UP!" he shouted so that Ryan knew to let the four bludgers loose. Normally there were only two in a game but for this he wanted to compensate for the lack of other players and distractions. He knew Ryan and him self could handle it, it wasn't the first time they'd done this.

Ryan opened the box, letting the bludgers loose. They went in four different directions, and he grinned, following one of them up into the air.
Most of the Slytherins trying out were huddled, even in the air, in a group. That wouldn't do. Quidditch was not a game where you could hide behind someone else.
He sent the ball with a hard swing into the center of the pack.

Samantha leaned forwards to watch with a bit of fascination in her eyes, this ought to be good. As the bludgers went flying her eyes sparkled and waited for someone to inevitably get hit. She wasn't sadistic by nature...well she could be but no she wanted them to succeed, she wanted her house to have a good team.

Rystain was already heading towards a bludger and he also noticed the little huddle in the middle so he hit the bludger straight for the middle before speeding off after another one that was speeding nearby, this one however he aimed at the outside of the crowd in the direction he knew they'd be flying to next. He smirked as already one student had managed to fall from his broom before any of the bludgers even reached the group. Pathetic.

Lani was biding her time. She had been smart enough not to be a part of that mass of people. They all flew in one direction, like cows to slaughter, and she shook her head.
She was attentive, keeping her eye on Ryan especially, and making sure that she had space to move if she needed it.

Dorian was chasing after the fourth bludger, the only one without a particular destination yet, and he noticed Lani keeping her eye on him. For that reason alone, he aimed at one of the others who had been smart enough to stay out of the pack, and hoped Rystain would try and catch her off guard.
