Dressed to Impress

[Kassia Burke]

Kassia didn't care for the attention, she didn't not care about it either, she just wasn't flighty about a pretty face. She was just there to watch and make sure Fee didn't do something they'd regret.

"Fee. You're looking pretty as usual." she complimented while her eyes scanned the crowd she was wary of the pretty faces, not for herself but for her sister.

"Yes it's very exciting, I'm honored that the cup would choose me." she said but that was all that was to be said on the subject and that was really all she had said about it, Merlin she would disgust herself if she went on about how she was chosen.

Changing topics she nodded towards Kassia, " The Burke sisters, though I've yet to see your twin." she noted.

[Ophelia Burke]

"Well, congratulations," Ophelia said. "It really is quite an honor, especially with your being new to the school and everything. But of course, I wouldn't have had the nerve to put my name in the cup. I'm afraid I just don't have the competitive spirit in me." She fluttered her eyelashes cutely, even as she gently nudged her sister away from her a little bit. It was bratty, yes, but she really didn't need a second Burke sister competing with her for attention.

"Anyway, my name is Ophelia, but you can call me Fee. My name really is quite a mouthful; I don't know what Mummy was thinking when she picked it out."

Sam smiled courteously and watched the interaction between the two sisters and resisted smiling even more as if she could read exactly what was going on between them, "It's a pleasure Fee, I'm Samantha...Sam..." she nodded.

[Kassia Burke]

Kass didn't introduce herself, she didn't figure the invitation was for her to join this was more her sister's scene. Kass was pleasant but she didn't play so others would approve of who she was, she often found herself the odd man out, but she was courteous to everyone of course as was the Burke way.

She was just trying to watch over her sister. She did however take a few steps to the side so not to "steal" her sister's shining glory.

[Ophelia Burke]

"It's nice to meet you, Sam," Ophelia said distractedly, looking around. While it was nice enough talking to Sam, she really wanted to talk to a boy. But she wasn't so presumptuous or forward as to approach one herself; she just kept hoping that her "come hither" looks would tempt one of them over to her. If she looked too interested in her conversation with Sam, that wouldn't happen. She was at least glad that her brother wasn't here, because when he still went here, he was so protective of her that she wasn't ever able to get near any boys.

"So, um, aren't you, like, from France or something?" she asked, barely even looking at Sam.

Sam wondered about the girl's attention span but didn't remark that it was rude to not at least pretend an interest in whom you were talking to.

"Yes...I'm transfered from Beauxbatons." she said a little hesitantly still watching the girl as she looked around the room.

[Ophelia Burke]

"Oh, that's cool," Ophelia said, shrugging. She turned her attention back to Sam, realizing that it wasn't the best manners to be looking at other people while talking to someone, especially when you'd only just met the person. She regarded Samantha casually. The girl was entirely too pretty, and Ophelia immediately didn't like her. Really, now, if she was hoping to get some boy's attention, she certainly wasn't going to do it standing next to this girl. Even if Ophelia secretly thought that she was prettier than Sam, she still didn't care to be standing next to her long enough to have a comparison made.

"So why exactly did you come here, anyway?" Ophelia asked sweetly, feigning interest. "Not that we're not glad to have you, of course, but if I were going to school in France, I don't think I would want to transfer to Hogwarts in my fifth year."

[Allaire Burke]

Allaire received her invitation to the slug club and sighed. What was she supposed to wear? Sometime formal? Informal? Opening her wardrobe, she picked out something that was nice, yet not extremely dressy. She figured that this would do.

Looking in the mirror, her hair was already straight so she just let it go at that. Not bothering to mess with any makeup, Allaire headed out of her dorm to Slughorn's office.

Upon arriving, she noticed Ophelia right away talking with some other girl. She shook her head as she passed the group of Slytherins in search of her twin. She slipped through the crowd, hopefully unnoticed. She didn't want to make some grand entrance because she was late. "Kass," Allaire said smiling appearing by her side. "Did I miss anything as of yet?"

Kassia bit her tongue for her sister, but didn't say anything and instead continued to smile almost apologetically.

She did however spot her other sister and halfway smiled when her twin joined them, "No not at all." she promised while glancing around. "Our cousins are over there." she pointed with her eyes discreetly "And Slughorn's there." she announced in the same fashion.

"I enjoy the changes as they come." she said simply, "And I prefer to be closer to home." She debated then and there letting the girl go so she could mingle which was obvious that she wanted to do. Sam would probably learn more about the family through one of her sisters, although Kassia seemed a bit cautious and Allaire didn't seem to interested. Still she nodded as the youngest sister joined them and then let the conversation she was having with Ophelia slide into polite silence so Ophelia could leave if she wished.

[Allaire Burke]

Allaire followed her sister's glances and then nodded. She looked to the other girl that stood there. A warm smile spread across her face as a greeting. Allaire didn't want to be rude to the girl.

"Sorry I'm a little later than planned. I think my invitation arrived later than the majority's." She gave a slight shrug to her twin and then looked back to the other girl. It appeared that Fee was finished talking with the girl, and it seemed like her oldest sister didn't really have any interest in really talking to her, so Allaire decided to speak up. "Hey," she said smiling. "Um, you're Sam, right?"

"The one and only." She answered returning the warm smile, "It's a pleasure to meet you miss Burke." she said again not using the girl's name until it was given. She glanced around, "I'm pretty sure your tardiness isn't an issue the Professor only just arrived."

[Allaire Burke]

Allaire wasn't going to be rude and let Sam just stand there after her sister decided that she wanted to move on to better things. "It's a pleasure to meet you too Sam. I'm Allaire, and of course I'm sure you already know my twin Kassia." She let out a sigh of relief. "That's a relief. I'm glad Slughorn is not one to draw out those who are late. I believe that would be a little embarrassing."

"Hardly, since he was so late himself, besides I believe you were in good company. Yes," she nodded toward Kassia, "It's a pleasure to meet the Burke sisters at last. I believe my mother was in the process of speaking with your mother about articles for you girls...when she passed." she said lowering her eyes for the proper solemn look. It was an area she had to try hard to pretend for, but she usually convinced people that she genuinely cared about the old hag.

Kassia thought how awful it might have been to lose her own mother, but then Samantha's words echoed in her ears, " An article?" she asked it was a bit out of character for her simply to ask the question like that and she could tell by Sam's surprised expression that she had been too quiet earlier so she gave a polite smile now and an encouraging step forward to finally introduce herself propperly, "Please call me Kass." everyone else did though she wasn't really the nick name sort of person.

"What?" she asked surprised momentarily as the quiet Burke spoke up, "Oh yes, articles in the magazine for you three girls, for entering society of course." Sam rolled her eyes good naturedly, " Because you don't know everyone and everything about everyone here anyways." she shook her head, " It's really just a formality but society has it's customs, and it would be an honor for the magazine to do a spotlight on you three girls for our fall selection."
