Rystain had rejoined the slytherin group before Samantha had shown herself and was calmly listening to everyone without speaking. As she arrived he quirked an eyebrow realizing where she must have been hiding and had likely overheard his conversation with Frank.
He looked at Lyra then as she asked about Slughorn.. "Perhaps he wishes to be the linking presence between power and success, to .. manipulate through his own connections."

Oh good, Rabastan thought. His two favorite people. He had no real problem with Rystain, come to think of it, they just seemed to rub the wrong way. Samantha, on the other hand, bothered him. It was the act she felt she had to pull all the time... it was fake, and it made her unnattractive in his eyes. It was really difficult for a girl to make themselves unnatractive to Rabastan.
He fell silent again after bestowing Lyra with a dazzling smile, just watching the girls and listening to their theories on Slughorn.

Maxi walked to the slug club, alone. Neither Gage, Bek, or Seth had been invited and Maxi felt very alone in all of this. When she arrived, she saw a lot of people talking with each other, but no one she really knew well. So she stood a bit to the side, waiting for someone to come and talk to her.

Alice felt a bit awkward with Frank facing her like that and decided to do what seemed easiest at the moment and escaped. She had seen him look to the floor.. she had wanted to kiss him. She really didn't like seeing him so upset but... how do you get back something that was so easily destroyed before? No he would have to work his way back into her heart.. though the letter had been an eye opening start.
Alice walked over to Maxi. She knew the girl and she was another champion and she didn't want her to feel left out. "Hey Maxi... I guess that makes all of us who got selected for the tournament to be here. Though I'm still not quite sure why us?"

Severus's own assurance that not very many had been invited quickly shrank out of existence. Rori's new boyfriend had all of her attention, Evans was rapidly talking with friends. He felt very alone. 'The first moment I have, I'm leaving. Yes, I'll have a chat with Slughorn, then I'll just go.' Severus began to think of different tactics and escape routes he could use. The common room wasn't too far away, He could slip off any time he wanted too. Maybe he should stay and observe everyone. It wasn't often that he could just watch everyone behave foolishly. Natalie stood back from the rest of the crowd, half-hidden against the wall. It was a curious mix of people who had been invited. Some, like Severus and Lily and Rori, were people she liked. Many others, however, were people she did not trust. It was a lucky thing for her that her power was not common knowledge, because some of the thoughts and emotions some people gave off were surely not something that they would have wanted anyone to know. She wasn't sure why she had been invited, unless it was because her mother and sister had both been Slug Club members. She remembered Sabrina talking about it the year before. Perhaps Professor Slughorn thought she would be like her sister. But Sabrina had always been the golden child, pretty and smart and outgoing, while Natalie was just small and pale and odd. At least, that's how she saw herself. She looked over at Severus from the distance, wondering if she should go to him. he'd been ignoring her ever since the day in the tree, and it disturbed her. She couldn't understand why. She was seriously thinking about skipping out on this little party and going back to the Common Room. She didn't fit in among this crowd.

Maxi smiled as Alice approached her. Yes, the girls were champions in opposing houses, but Maxi had never had a problem with Alice in the past, and it was good to see a friendly face. Besides, she had no enemy-like feelings toward Alice or Regina for thatt matter. It was Just Sam.
"Not sure why we were invited, or not sure why we were selected?" she asked Alice curiously.

"I meant why we were invited. But as for being selected... the only one I can't figure out why they were selected is Sam. I can't stand her, and she keeps looking at Frank like he's her next lunch. I mean there were plenty of other slytherins who put their name in that are better than she is, I don't get why it chose some transfer student." For the first time Alice realized that all the other champions were in the fifth year except herself. What did that mean? Not to mention all girls. She had her own suspicions about it.

Severus felt his eyes drawn to a spot and saw Natalie. She looked pale and delicate against so many stronger personalities. He wanted to go to her. She was someone that made him feel at home, but since the tree, he felt he had ruined everything, he couldn't just go up to her like he had never said anything, nor could he ignore that the Slytherin students that had been putting the most pressure on him were there. He looked at her and sighed, a slight and almost transparent future he could of had seemed to fade even further from his grasp, at his own push even.

Rori broke into a smile as Leo approached. "Hey! Yeah, I got invited. Although, I haven't the slighest idea of what it's about. I thought about not coming at first but decided against it." She felt more comfortable knowing that there were more people that she knew was invited. "Hello Lily." Maybe this Slug Club meeting wouldn't be so bad. At least she had people she could talk to here. Leo grinned, oblivious to all of the other students except Rori. He only had eyes for her. "I'm really glad you were invited, too," he said. "In fact, if you weren't, I don't think I would have stayed. I don't really know a lot of these people, except for Regina." Leaning against the wall, he crossed his arms over his chest. "You look really good, by the way."

Leo's smile always made Rori do the same. She was relieved that he was here because that meant more time that she could spend with him because of their different classes.
Feeling a blush appear across her cheeks, Rori's smile turned into a shy one. "Thank you," she replied. "You look good too." Of course Leo always looked good and he looked completely adorable leaning against the wall.

She wasn't sure if she was seeing what she was looking for, or even what it was. But she knew that he was not coming towards her, and he was not motioning her over. He seemed almost to be challenging her, but to do what, she couldn't guess. Biting down on her lower lip, she stood there, motionless, torn between going to him and running away. She fit in here even less than he did. And the truth was, although she was friendly with Lily and Rori, when it came down to it, she really only had one good friend. And she didn't know if he wanted to be that anymore.

Rabastan didn't know her, none of them did, and that was the only comfort she could take in her life it seemed. She knew he didn't like her games, her public face and smile that lied so well as if the world was a stage, she didn't know why he thought she did it but she assumed he would be wrong in that aspect to and truth be told... well it didn't matter, he didn't know and he wouldn't find out just how human she was...or why she did the things she did.
She noticed Rystain as well and sent him a dazzling smile that said nothing here nor there about what she had overheard.

"Well, obviously we were invited because we're champions," Maxi said. "We're of a high importance now, like royalty," She stood up a bit srtaighter and lifted her chin, trying to look royal before laughing. "As for the Samantha issue..." Maxi looked over to where the Slytherin champion was standing. "Maybe the goblet knew we both wanted to take her down."

Alice chuckled, "yeah probably, hehe... I guess we'll never know but maybe if we stick together at least one of us can manage to defeat her fair and square and take her down a rung from her lofty little princess throne she likes to stand on. Someone needs to taker her down somehow and make her realize she's no better than the rest of us."

He felt that he needed to be with her. He gave a half motion toward her and then admonished himself for doing it. How weak he was for wanting her close. He could of kicked himself for it, he was torn between going to her and running away. he fit in less than would care for, he wasn't very friendly with Rori and when he got down right to it, he had only one good friend. He had ruined that. His tortured and confused feelings had ruined it and he felt he didn't have the right to put her through them anymore.

She could sense his indecision and confusion, even from a distance. She didn't understand it, and she didn't know how to take it. Did he not want to be her friend anymore? What had she done wrong?
Suddenly feeling very alone and lost, Natalie blinked back tears. It was a mistake to come here. Whatever reason Professor Slughorn had for inviting her, it had been a mistake. She didn't belong here. She wasn't entirely sure she belonged anywhere.
She took a deep breath, for a second hovering between going to him and running away. Then she made her decision, turning and running away down the hall.

Sam's mother had once told her that anyone who hated her was probably just jealous, it was the cause of much irony since her mother hated her the most and while she wasn't responsible for her mother's hatred, she was completely innocent of Alice's and Maxi's. She wanted nothing romantically to do with either of their love interests, in fact she didn't have a love interest. Truth be told she missed out on so much of her childhood she still wanted to go back and play with ponies and dolls and yet she knew that wouldn't happen. She could think a man was gorgeous, because she often did, but that was it. She knew how to seduce a man into giving her what she wanted without actually having to do anything because her mother had taught her, manipulated her, and beat her into being as "perfect" as she could be. That high throne was nothing more than a charade, and Sam beneath the layers didn't think she was better than anybody else. In fact she thought she was worse, decency was something she was trying to at least appear like she had when really masks off she was a horrible person, at least that's what she believed. She didn't trust herself to be herself she didn't know what she'd do to innocents like Alice and Maxi if she disliked them as much as they disliked her.

"Is this thing ever going to start?" Charlotte snipped, she was now annoyed because of Samantha's presence. Of course little miss princess was here, she shouldn'tve been surprised Sam always had to one up her. Always. Just short of glaring she glanced around the room in a huff.

Severus saw Natalie run away. He stopped thinking for a minute and ran after her, the half a second decision that felt like half a year. He cut through the milling crowd, the one that had been between them and called after her. "Natalie! Wait!" He wasn't sure what he was going to say or do, but he knew where he had lead this friendship of his, it wasn't the right place for it to be.

Natalie heard his voice calling her, but she kept running. In her mind, the tempest of emotions swirling around her and within her seemed to merge together and she wasn't sure what was real and what was just in someone else's head. Was Severus really following her? Did he still want to talk to her?
As she got a little farther away from the crowd, she could still hear his voice, still hear footsteps behind her, and she slowed to a stop. She had taken a few strange turns and was now in a dark corridor, deep in the hidden passages of the dungeons. She could only see a few feet in front of her now.
Slowly she turned and looked towards the sound of the footsteps. "Severus?"
