Amelia was feeling rather homemaker-ish one day and decided it would be nice to invite a few people from the Ministry over for a little brunch. She had sent OWLS to those people she had frequent chats with, and of course the new Minister of Magic. She surely would have been off her rocker to not invite him.
In preparation she conjured a long table and set it on the lawn near the garden. She fixed the table with white linens and a lovely arrangement of flowers, the vase being a hollowed out pumpkin. An adoreable house elf shuffled outside and handed Amelia the china and flatware. "Thank you Didia," she said, smiling cheerfully after the elf. "Could you also make sure that we have plenty of appetizers? i'm not quite sure how many guests we'll be having and I'd like to be prepared. Anything we don't use we can take down to the orphanage together." Didia nodded and shuffled away to the kitchen to continue her cooking.
A bee buzzed around her head which reminded her to cast an enchantment to keep pests away. She wouldn't want unwanted visitors during her nice meal. Looking around, the setting seemed perfect. The sun was out, luckily for her, and it didn't appear as though it was planning on raining anytime soon. But just to be on the safe side, she magicked an invisible tent around where her guests would be sitting. That way, if the weather did turn, they wouldn't be drenched. Now all that was left was to sit back and wait for her guests to arrive.

Andromeda was delighted to receive the invitation from Amelia. It was nice to have a female friend who she could talk to, since she wasn't able to work things out with her sisters. So she headed over to Amelia's house. Since she felt it was necessary to bring something for the hostess to any party, she brought with her a lovely table display of flowers purchased from the Botanical Garden.
As she approached the door, she nearly tripped and dropped the centerpiece, but she was able to catch herself. Once she was sure everything was secure, she walked the rest of the way to the door and knocked firmly.

Emily received an OWL from Amelia and was excited to go. It would be one way she could get out and away from paperwork that she had to finish at the Ministry. After taking time off to work at the school, she had a bit more to do than expected.
She agreed to meet Vincent there because he had a few things to do before he left. Emily didn't think about stopping by and picking something up for Amelia on her way there, because she left a little later than she wanted. Once she reached the door, she noticed that she was the second one there. The girl, Emily was familiar with because she had seen her around. "Hey. Andromeda, right?"

A knock at the door signaled the first of the guests to arrive. Didia hopped to answer the door but Amelia beat her to it. "Go ahead and finish your work in the kitchen Didia. I'll let the guests in." The little elf nodded and scurried back to her cooking.
Opening the door widely, Amelia was pleased to see two people there. Andromeda and Emily. She assumed they hadn't arrived together. "Welcome. Please come in." Amelia gestured widely with her hands, inviting the women into her home. "I hope you found it alright," she said cheerfully.

"Hi," Andi greeted Emily. "Yeah, I'm Andromeda Black. You can call me Andi, though."
She didn't get a chance to say anything else, because the door opened, and Amelia stood in front of them. "Hi, Amelia!" she said brightly. She held out the centerpiece. "Here, I brought you a centerpiece from the botanical garden. It was no trouble finding the place, I live pretty close by."

Kyle was pleased to receive the invitation from Amelia. He had enjoyed the time he had spent with her the other night, and was looking forward to seeing her again. So he headed over to the address on the invitation with a box of chocolates in his hand. Somehow it felt wrong to go to someone's house without some kind of gift. Normally, he would bring a bottle of wine, but since it was brunch, he didn't think that would be quite appropriate.
He found his way to the house and stopped to smooth out his hair before knocking on the door. He should have gotten a haircut... it was starting to stick up on top. He hoped it would behave itself.
Finally, he took a deep breath and knocked on the door, then waited for her response.

Amelia gladly took the centerpiece from Andromeda. It was a gorgeous arrangement of multi-colored flowers and tall green leaves. Amelia had not seem anything so beautiful as the small flowers in the center, which changed colors as the viewer moved around them. "Thank you Andi. It's so beautiful, it will go perfectly on the table." She welcomed the women in and shut the door. She began to lead the women through the house and out to where they would be eating, when a knock on the door signaled another guest. "Didia will show you outside," she said politely to Andromeda and Emily. "Make yourselves at home." Amelia called for her house elf, who scuttled out of the kitchen and bowed to the women.
"This way misses," Didia said with another bow as she showed the women to the back yard. "Can Didia get you a drink, misses?"
Amelia returned to the front door and opened it. It was Kyle. A broad smile spread across Amelia's face. "I'm so glad you could make it. I wasn't sure if my owl had found you." Peep, her tawny owl, had never failed to deliver a message. But Amelia wanted to be sure Kyle recieved his invitation, as she wanted to see him again.

Kyle smiled and hoped that the warmth in his face wasn't too visible. "Hi, Amelia," he said. "I got the invitation just fine, thanks. I was really glad to receive it, actually." Oh, crap, now you sound desperate, he scolded himself silently. "Thanks for inviting me." He awkwardly held out the box of chocolates. "These are for you. And the other guests, too," he added quickly.

"Thank you," she said, taking the chocolate with pinking cheeks. "Please come in." She too a step backwards to allow him room to enter her home. Most of the guests were going to be from the Ministry, and since he had worked there at one time, she hoped he would feel comfortable. "Andromeda and Emily Alchemia are already here. Are you familiar with Emily?" As they spoke Amelia guided Kyle to the backyard.

Kyle smiled at the two women. He recognized Andromeda, of course, from the other night at the club. "Hi, Andromeda," he greeted her. He then turned his attention to the other woman, Emily. "No, I don't think we've been acquainted," he replied. "It's nice to meet you, Emily."

Emily followed the house elf and Andi to the backyard, and looked around. Amelia kept a beautiful place, inside and out. Maybe after she finished the wedding plans, she could use the extra time to possibly plant a few nice flowers around her house. She turned around as she heard Amelia come out and smiled politely to the other guest. "It's nice to meet you too."

Kyle held out his hand to her. "I'm Kyle Connelley," he said. "I used to work at the Ministry a few years ago, but now I'm sort of a freelance Dark Creature catcher." He sat down across from the two women and looked around at Amelia's outdoor patio. "This is a really nice place you have here," he said to her.

Ted jogged up the walkway to Amelia's place, checking his watch (a muggle habit). He didn't think he was late, anyway. He knocked.
In one arm, he carried a bag with two bottles of champagne and orange juice, assuming Amelia had food taken care of. It went against his nature not to bring something, though, so he figured the makings for mimosas couldn't hurt.
He didn't know Amelia very well, but from the few times he has spoken with her, she seemed nice enough. Still, he was pleasantly surprised to have gotten an invititation.

"Thank you Kyle. I do try to keep a nice house, though I have to admit Didia helps me quite a bit. I really don't know what I'd do without her." Just at that moment she heard another knock at the door. "Excuse me a moment."
Amelia headed back into the house and to the front door. When she opened it she saw Ted Tonks, one of the many aurors. "Ted! So good of you to come. Please come in, everyone is in the backyard." She led Ted through the house and into the yard where the rest of the guests stood, chit chatting. "Kyle, this is Ted Tonks. He's an auror with the Ministry. And Ted, I'm sure you're acquainted with Emily and of course Andromeda." Amelia smiled cheerfully.
"Can I get anyone a drink?" She looked eagerly at the group.

"Good morning, Amelia," Ted greeted her when she opened the door, thanking her for the invitation as she whisked them away to her back patio.
He smiled and nodded at Kyle, stepping forward and extending his hand as they were introduced. "It's a pleasure," he said, before winking at the girls.
"Good morning, ladies." His eyes lingered on Andromeda for half a second longer before he turned back to Amelia. "Do you need help with drinks or anything?"

Andi's eyes lit up when she saw him walk in. She knew that, among her fellow Ministry employees, she would have to be in control, and not let her feelings for Ted seem too obvious, but it would be difficult. Sometimes she just wanted to shout out to the world that he was her boyfriend. Was that even the right word? They'd only gone out a few times, but she was already sure that she was crazy in love with him. No other guy had ever made her feel like that before.
Amelia, ever the gracious host, introduced him to them and she found herself blushing as he winked at them. His eyes lingered on her, and for a brief second, they connected. It sent a thrill through her that she couldn't quite control. "Good to see you, Ted," she said, her tone formal, but the ghost of a playful smile lingering on her lips.

Amelia tried to ignore the sparks between Andi and Ted. They were so cute it nearly made her smile much more broadly than the situation called for. "That would be wonderful Ted, thank you." She saw that he had a bag of drinks as well and so she showed him to the kitchen. "Entertain yourselves and we'll be right back," she said over her shoulder to the others. She gave an extra little smile to Kyle before she disappeared into the house. As she passed her house elf she said "Didia, would you please bring out some appetizers for our guests?" The elf nodded and disappeared, returning only a moment later with a tray of cheese, crackers, and meat, and another of sausage rolls and country mushrooms. The elf sat the trays on long table and scurried off into the house once more.

Kyle took Ted's hand and shook it firmly. "It's nice to meet you, Ted," he answered. He caught the little look between Andromeda and Ted, and quickly covered a smile. So this was the guy Andromeda had mentioned at the club that night...
"It's been a while since I worked at the Ministry," he said. "I was expecting to see more familiar faces."

Ted's eyes playfully narrowed, just slightly at Andromeda, and he fought to keep from smiling. "It's nice to see you, too," he said, still formally, but with a very light tone.
He just smiled at Kyle. "I bet more people will start showing up soon."
He turned back to Amelia, nodding and following her into the kitchen, setting what he had brought on one of her counters. He watched the house elf go by, and smiled at the hostess. "You really went all out for this, didn't you?" he asked, then added, "All right. Where are your glasses?"

Felicia generally kept to herself at the Ministry. She was a no-nonsense, all-business kind of person who preferred to keep out of the social scene as much as possible. But every so often, it was necessary to step out and socialize. This was just such an occasion.
One of her employees in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, Amelia Bones, was throwing a brunch. As far as social events were concerned, it seemed a fairly innocuous affair. It wasn't as if it was a black-tie event or some such nonsense. A brunch, one would assume, would be low-key, just a lot of small talk and some good food. And since Amelia was one of her most promising young employees, she owed it to the woman to make an appearance.
Great-grandmama had always taught her to bring a gift when attending someone's house for a party. But what was one to bring to a brunch? Everything seemed inadquate for such an event, especially since Amelia had not requested any help with the menu. Still, Felicia couldn't bring nothing.
So she'd hauled out her great-grandmama's cookbook and found her famous recipe for blackberry pie. At the very least, the pie would be something the hostess could enjoy long after cleaning up the mess left behind by her partygoers.
With pie in hands, Felicia arrived at Amelia's house and knocked firmly on the door.
