Looking at the stars (Kris)

[Sirius Black]

Sirius frowned. He hated his family's ridiculous naming tradition, and he hated admitting his middle name. He had enough troubles with his first name. "OK," he said, "But you gotta promise not to laugh..."

[Kris Lupin]

"I promise." Kris said looking up at the sky, she bit her lower lip as the stars twinkled.

[Sirius Black]

Sirius took a deep breath. "OK... well, it's actually Procyon." He blushed just saying it. The only time he was used to hearing the name was when his mother was angry with him and she shouted out his full name. "It's stupid, I know... It's the name of another star. It's the brightest star in Canis Minor, the companion to Canis Major, where Sirius is." He rolled his eyes. "My family is nuts."

[Kris Lupin]

"Well I myself like it... it's better to know your full name then wonder if you have one." Kris said quietly, "Like me, I don't know if I have a middle name, I can't recall it ever being used if I have one."

[Sirius Black]

Sirius hugged her. "I'm sorry, Kris. It really wasn't fair what happened to you. But what about the woman who raised you? Did she care for you at all? I mean, you lived with her a long time... Did she treat you like a daughter, or just some kid?"

[Kris Lupin]

"She didn't send my letters to my real parents... she lied to my father about me being happy... I mean she treated me like a mother should but I wanted to go home... in all my letters I asked if I could go home..." Kris sighed, when she learned from her father that they never got her letters she didn't understand it, but then after a while she thought about it and knew Norah had to have not sent them.

[Sirius Black]

Sirius was stunned. "Wait a minute... She never sent the letters? Why would she do that? That means she was lying... Do you think she really thought of you as her daughter and didn't want to let you go?" It all sounded sort of creepy to him. What kind of person would deliberately keep a child from her parents?

[Kris Lupin]

"I don't know." Kris said quietly, she didn't know if that was the truth or really what to think.

[Sirius Black]

Sirius shook his head. "Man, I thought my family was messed up," he said. "Your family is worse than mine. I just hope things will get better for you, now that you're back with your own family, like you should have been all along."

[Kris Lupin]

"Yeah... me too..." Kris closed her eyes and shivered a little, she felt tired but she didn't want to move from her spot. "Lets talk about something else... please?"

[Sirius Black]

Sirius nodded, feeling a little relieved. It seemed like all they ever ended up doing was talking about her family, and he really didn't understand what all had happened. He had a feeling that she was keeping a lot from him, and he didn't know what to do about it. He supposed he could try talking to Remus about it, but he was usually even more secretive than Kris was.

"Sure," he said, smiling easily. "What do you want to talk about?"

[Kris Lupin]

Kris thought about what they could talk about, "Anything but my family." She finally said with a small sigh, she wanted to tell him everything, she felt like if she didn't tell him soon she would explode. Then on the other hand she didn't want to lose him because of the truth.

[Sirius Black]

"Hmmmm...." said Sirius, reaching up to stroke her hair. "Well, let's see... what else can we talk about? I know... let's talk about me and how cool I am," he said with a laugh. "Or we could talk about how pretty you are with the moonlight shining on your hair...."

[Kris Lupin]

Kris smiled then opened her eyes and kissed his cheek. She loved him and hated that she had to lie to him about who she was.

[Sirius Black]

Sirius closed his eyes and leaned against her. He wished again that he'd brought a blanket, but he did feel warmer with her in his arms. As the nigt air brushed against their faces, he slowly drifted off to sleep.

[Kris Lupin]

Kris smiled as she saw him fall asleep she looked up at the shy for a few moments longer before she too closed her eyes and fell asleep.

[Sirius Black]

The next morning, Sirius awoke to hear the sound of a rooster crowing somewhere down on the grounds. Immediately, his eyes popped open to see the sun just rising over the horizon. "Crap!" he whispered. He shook Kris lightly. "Kris," he said. "Kris wake up. We slept out here all night."

[Kris Lupin]

Kris opened her eyes and blinked a few times before keeping her eyes open. "We did?" She asked as she rubbed her eyes.

[Sirius Black]

Sirius nodded. "Yeah, we did." He pointed towards the horizon. "Look at the sunrise." Streaks of soft pink and orange were filling the sky and reflecting in the waters of the nearby lake. Even the giant squid seemed to be waking up, as he stretched a single tentacle out of the water. He wanted to stay and watch the sunrise, but he knew they couldn't wait too long. The lighter it got, the more chances they had of getting caught.

Kris looked at the sunrise starting and thought it was beautiful, she stood up as she thought she heard someone or something on the stairs. "We better go before we get caught."
