Studying

[Lily Evans]

Lily walked into the library, it really was the only place she could study at, what with James and his friends being loud. She found an empty table well most was empty but this one was more sucluded. She sat down then got out her books and notes.

[Severus Snape]

Severus wandered to his favorite table in the back of the library, laden down with many books on herbology and potion theory and his own potions text. He plopped them down along with a Defense against the dark arts text book and some scrolls of notes that scurried away from his pile of books down the table, as if alive. "Shoot." he said under his breath as he reached for them and noticed Lily Evans sitting at his table, looking at him as if he had a second head.

Lily shook her head then said, "You going to sit down or just stand there, this is a free table." She said as she looked over her notes. She really didn't want to be seen with a Slytherin but like she said, it's a free table. She knew of the stories about how Slytherins are suppose to turn out evil. She looked at him, "Well?"

[Severus Snape]

Severus abruptly sat down and gingerly scooped his scrolls away from her. She seemed always so sweet and above her tone, but he had never spoken to her before now. He nodded and separated his books out into three different stacks and then opened his scribbled in potions text and opened a herbology book on different long beans and their properties. His heart was racing, why he couldn't guess, but the way the shafts of light hit Lily made her look ethereal.

Lily went back to looking over her notes. She opened her Defense book to make sure her notes were right. She marked something out the rewrote the right phrase. She sorta hoped her friends wouldn't come, if they did they would ask so many questions.

[Severus Snape]

Severus finished looking threw his herbology book and set aside, he plucked another one and opened it and began to read. He took a heavily noted piece of preachment and wrote a spell down, then scratched out half of it and re wrote it, then did the process again until he was satisfied and then looked up and checked to see if Madame Pince was looking around his area and he jabbed at his fished book and it flew into the air and did a turn over before being slammed into the table, upsetting his ink well. He quickly righted it and siphoned the ink back into the well and quickly noted the finished spell in his potions text noting it with "For enemies."

Lily jumped when Severus' book was slammed on the table. She looked at him then asked, "What are you doing?" She raised her eyebrows waiting for his answer.

[Severus Snape]

"Sorry." he said sheepishly withdrawning a little, he looked at her and gave an akward smile and said "a trying a spell out." he answered her. he wondered why the tips of his ears felt hot, but she didn't look upset, more a little surprised.

[Lily Evans]

Lily gave him a small smile. "Try to be a bit more quiet." She said before going back to her notes. Her heart was still racing from the surprise of the book being slammed. When she was satisfied with her Defense notes she went to her Herbology notes.

[Severus Snape]

"Ok, sorry again." he said feeling a bit anguished. He took a breath and held it for a second before going back to studying a transfiguration spell. He hated that subject, what did it mean to change one thing into another? how do you change something so completely? if he was to transfigure his quill into a cake, would it taste like cake or quill? he frowned and shut the book and set it aside, glaring at it as he did so. "what a stupid subject " he muttered as he transfigured his quill into a mal-formed pen. He sighed in frustration.

[Lily Evans]

Lily looked at him. "Is something wrong?" She asked seeing the frustration in his face. She looked at the Transfiguration book and wondered if it had something to do with that. She started writing something down as she waited for an answer.

[Severus Snape]

"I don't understand Transfiguration... all my other subjects are fine...I don't understand the concepts and theory that come into play when changing one thing into another." he said sighing then feeling an odd swirling sensation in his chest, why did he just tell her that?! With his luck she'll tell Potter and Black and that simpering Pettigrew by the end of the day!

[Lily Evans]

"Oh, well, I believe you could use it to hide things, like if you bought a friend or family a gift and they was to try to find it you could transfigure it and they would look right at it but not see it." Lily shrugged. "That's what I'd use it for." Why did he trust her enough to tell her that? She wasn't going to tell anyone but still.

[Severus Snape]

"use it to deceive people? How...Un-Gryfinndor of you. What about animals? or Objects into animals?" he asked half regretting it as he said it. Unfortunately if it was something he didn't understand he desperately wanted to understand it.

[Lily Evans]

Lily put her notes down and thought. "Well, I suppose if you needed to destract someone or something and all that was around you were rocks or something. You could transfigure a rock into a dog that barked or attacked that person or thing." She said thoughtfully.

[Severus Snape]

Severus pondered this distraction was one thing, but how was it done? He didn't bother asking though. Maybe if he just thought of it in this new manner he'd have more success than previously he had. He didn't know what to think about Lily helping him, and he wondered to himself why he had internalized her as much as he had.

[Lily Evans]

Lily waited a few more moments to see if he had anymore questions before going back to her notes. She got out her herbology book sat it on her defense book then opened it. She flipped through the pages to find what she needed.

[Severus Snape]

Severus wrote in his book and then said "thank you, I never expected you to help me." He felt the swirling mass of blood that had been around his heart dive into his belly. he was perhaps getting better at talking to girls that weren't Rori or Natalie.

Lily looked up from her book and smiled slightly. "It's no problem, and you shouldn't judge people without talking to them." She said still smiling. She looked back at her book, her eyes moved between her notes and book.

[Severus Snape]

Severus smiled and felt oddly very good. he put aside his spells for enemies and stuck to studying just the basics of herbology. If he wanted to improve as many potions as he could, he figured he would need to understand the ingredients.
