Zane walked into the Death Eater Headquarters with a small triumphant smile visible on his face. He had to admit that he was relieved to be over with the whole introduction and assessment part of his whole initiation process, but he had a bad feeling that the hardest part of the plan was going to be recruiting several of the Death Eaters to help him out. He knew that it was quite obvious that most of them were going to be vile and unfriendly. How was he supposed to get them to cooperate at all- let alone convince them to turn against the very leader they were here to practically worship? He was going to need to carefully analyze each and every person in order to pick out the ones that he could trust and those that he should avoid.
Zane walked through the long entrance hall of the building and passed several fellow Death Eaters, nodding his head at them as he passed. He decided just to look around for a while and entered a large, seemingly empty room with a high-rise ceiling and many bookshelves lined up along the walls with old and dusty books lazily shoved into them. He skimmed over some of the books' titles with only slight curiosity. But then- all of a sudden- he quickly spun around as a voice announced the presence of another person.....

Claudia had placed the locket in the cave as she had been instructed, and returned to the Headquarters, feeling satisfied with herself. She loved knowing that the Dark Lord trusted her so completely. She walked through to the large library in the middle of the house and paused at the door. Inside was a young man, one she had not seen before. Another new member, she thought to herself. She watched him for a minute. He seemed bored and out of place as he looked almost lazily at the books on the shelves. She decided to address him. "See anything you like?" she asked casually.

Zane looked at the woman for a moment, sizing her up. His first thought was that maybe he had just struck gold without even trying and found one of the more willing and friendly Death Eaters around. Of course, it was probably a huge mistake to use the words "friendly" and "Death Eater" in the same sentence. But her nonchalant manner seemed to suggest that maybe she wasn't so foolishly arrogant and clueless as many of the others were- including Malfoy. "No, I don't do a whole lot of reading anymore. I was just curious to see what kind of stuff you guys study and refer to. Not that it's going to help me accomodate at all... It looks like not a single one of these has been used in a couple of years." He said, adopting his most indifferent and stuck up tone- just for show. He figured that if he was supposed to be one of these people, he might as well act like the majority of them.

Claudia shrugged. "I never look at them myself. I think they belonged to the previous owner of this house. Erasmus Craven. Loathesome man. I'm glad he's dead. I'm just sorry I couldn't witness it. It sounded very amusing." She leaned against the wall with one knee up. She examined him through partially lowered eyelids. He was cute, that was certain. Perhaps a bit young, but that had never stopped her before. "What's your name, newbie?"

Zane almost laughed at her sudden change of personality and the introduction of the ever-so-expected disrepectful attitude that every Death Eater seemed to so sadly rely on. "Newbie?" He repeated, slightly grinning with arrogantly. "Pft....Hardly. Just because I've only just become a Death Eater doesn't mean I haven't been wreaking havoc and causing displeasure for the past several years- just like everyone else here has." This woman was intriguing, he had to admit. The fact that she didn't seem to kiss up to the lunatics above her made her only that much more interesting. "I'm Zane Larkin." He said simply, slowly walking closer to her and folding his arms across his chest. "And who are you?"

"Well, I haven't heard of you, but I suppose that could just mean that you're good at wreaking havoc. Not getting caught... that's a plus." Claudia continued to look at him coolly. "I'm Claudia Morley," she replied. "Whatever anyone else tells you about me... well, it's all true."

Zane chuckled lightly, "Of course it is." He sat down on the armrest of an old and dirty couch. "I'm not too eager to get that kind of publicity. Most of the stuff I've done isn't exactly major enough to gain me much of a reputation. Just the occasional alleyway torturing or muggle harassing. I did, once, kill a mudblood who threatened me and even tried to fight me down in Hogsmeade one night, but even that wasn't too big of a deal." He admitted. "No, that's mainly why I joined up with you demons. I'm tired of the small stuff." He looked up at Claudia and stared her in the eye. "So...how long have you been here? Long enough to have lost any kind of respect for most everyone here I assume?"

Claudia laughed coldly. "Respect? Ha. Most of the other Death Eaters are just worthless minions without an original thought in their heads. What's to respect about that? They're just a bunch of screw-ups. I hope you're better than them... but maybe not better than me."

Zane shrugged. "Perhaps. But then again, who are we to question the Dark Lord's ability to choose useful followers? Sure, they're all clueless minions... but surely the fact that the Dark Lord has chosen them to serve him and his goal awards them at least a small amount of respect, no matter how ridiculous they may seem." He knew that he was acting a little too soft for his role, but he felt like his answer did him justice for now. "And even if they don't deserve any respect at all... a body is a body. And as of now, it doesn't take a whole lot to take out a lot of the disgusting mudbloods and people who call themselves wizards that roam the streets these days. But anyhow.... you still didn't answer my question."

"You're awfully curious," Claudia observed, narrowing her eyes at him. She walked over to a chair across from him and sat down, crossing her legs as she sat. "I've worked for the Dark Lord nearly two years now," she said. "It took me a while to get in contact with him, and still longer to win his favor. Why exactly do you want to know?"

Zane shrugged. "No particular reason. It just seems like you're one of the more notorious and brighter ones around here. I was just interested in a little background information." He replied calmly. "Speaking of notorious though... I think I've heard of you before. It was just recently too. You haven't killed any muggles or caused any riots lately, have you?" He asked, grinning with amusement.

"Nothing quite that fun, I'm afraid," Claudia said calmly, examining her manicure. "But I did lead an attack against Dumbledore's little group of do-gooders. It would have gone much better if I hadn't had such a worthless band of idiots to work with." She rolled her eyes.

"Ah, that's where I've heard that name before. That Tyler Jackson ratted you out in the Daily Prophet. Although, he did say you were quite friendly and nice." Zane said with an annoyed chuckle. "The dumb bloke sure hit the mark with that one." He muttered sarcastically. "If you thought you had any chance at all with the plan, you should have found substantial partners to follow through with it. I'm surprised the Dark Lord didn't punish you more drastically for such an embarrassing move. But I suppose you're so high up there with him that you're practically his pet, huh?"

Claudia frowned and her eyes flashed. "Well, it wasn't a complete failure and none of us got caught. It wasn't my fault that two of the Dark Lord's own followers turned on me. The fools. One of them has disappeared, and the other... well, the less I say of him, the better." She made a distasteful face. "He was forgiving, and did not hold it against me. If it had worked, it would have eliminated most of our serious opposition. He does admire a little creative thinking from time to time. In fact, I've been rewarded for all of my work." She tossed her head proudly.

"Yeah, but sooner or later I think he'd get sick of all of his followers constantly reporting failures. After a while, the line between "trying real hard to get the job done" and "actually getting the job done" only gets bigger and bigger." Zane pointed out. "And that's why- before I even make my first move as one of his followers- I'm gonna have everything planned out to the point that I can't fail and can't make a mistake."

Claudia broke into a smile. "I like the way you think, Zane," she said appreciatively. "So many people don't think things through before they act. I had everything planned out... I just let the wrong people in on the plan. I didn't even want to work with them, they just found me out and forced themselves into my plans. You definitely have to make sure you're working with people who know what they're doing."

"Which- as you pointed out earlier- almost eliminates everyone around here. You know, who would've thought that the Dark Lord, the most powerful wizard in the world, would have such a large army of impossibly incapable imbeciles who have their heads completely screwed on backwards? It doesn't really allow you to maintain much of a reputation as a Death Eater." Zane made a disapproving chuckle. "But surely there have to be a few of his other followers who know how to get things done? Those that simply do exactly as they're told without any questions or reprehending remarks."

"There are a few that aren't too bad, I suppose," Claudia said, frowning distastefully. "The new girl, Bellatrix, is highly favored by the Dark Lord. Not as much as I am, of course, but she does show potential. Greta is good, but she was careless in killing a child in front of witnesses. Greyback is a mangy mutt, but he's perfect for his brutality and cruelty. Everyone else.... well, they're less impressive."

"Good to know." Zane replied shortly. "I think I've heard of Greta before also. I don't know the other two , but they sound acceptable." He commented, looking around the room absent-mindedly and examining his surroundings and thinking intensely. He thought about what he might be able to ask Claudia in order to find out just how trusting she was in Voldemort and how content she really was with always being a slave to his wishes. Zane felt like Claudia might actually cooperate with his plans with the right convincing. She would be a powerful ally to have if it were possible. The only problem was that she seemed utterly obsessed with Voldemort in almost every way. "Do you ever wonder what the Dark Lord's overall plan is? For us and even for himself. I hate to question him...but it's always been a little unclear to me what his complete game plan is." Zane asked, keeping the same calm and casual tone that he had taken on since he first began talking to her.

"Total world domination, of course," Claudia said. "I don't exactly know his plan, but I know a big part of it involves recruiting as many of the right types of wizards as possible. It's really not my place to ask questions. We are to do as we are told and that is all. But... I do know a secret. He let me in on a secret because of all the good work I've done for him." She smiled triumphantly.
