The bullet barreled through Diana and lodged itself into Christian's shoulder just as Diana fell into his arms. They were knocked backwards into the wall, Christian's muscular body cushioning Diana as she fell. He held her and as the gunman took aim once more Christian raised his wand and fired a killing curse. The room turned green for a moment and the sound of the large man's body and the metal of the gun falling to the floor could be heard over the final gunshot.
The second shot missed, it's aim disrupted by the shooter's death, and the bullet flew into the air perfectly hitting the metal rod that hung the light fixture from the ceiling above them. Christian had just enough time to dodge the falling ornamental fixture, rolling himself and Diana onto the floor and out of the way as the antique glass shattered and flew in every direction. Christian used his body as a shield to keep Diana from any further harm.
Christian propped himself up on his arms, hovering over Diana. He grinned at her for a moment then reality set in. She was shot. "F*ck! Burke!" He called out for Diana's friend. They hadn't cleared the kitchen yet and Christian couldn't leave Diana alone and injured.

Diana couldn't speak, but her wide terrified eyes spoke volumes. She didn't think, she just reacted and using her body as a shield for Christian's was instinct. Then again if she hadn't acted he would have been killed and her as well as the baby would have gone with him. As it was their chances of survival now were also decreasing as Diana's lung collapsed.
"Expelliarmus!" Silas said gruffly and with deadly intent toward Christian.
"Hello old friend."

There was no time to react to the approaching footsteps before Christian's wand shot out of his hand and landed on the ground nearer the intruder. Christian turned and looked at the faintly familiar voice.
"Silas," he said coldly as he got to his feet. "Funny, I don't remember inviting you over." Christian's arm was bleeding, the bullet still lodged in his shoulder. He shirt sleeve was slowly turning red. Christian positioned himself between Diana and Silas.
Not a friend at all, Silas was another Death Eater. One of lower rank than Christian and obviously perturbed by that fact.

"Well I'm sure my invitation simply got lost in the mail." Silas took a quick look around at Christian's handiwork, or rather Derek, Diana, and Christian's handiwork.
"Quite the little team you've got here, and yet I've always been under the assumption you work alone."
Despite his nonchalance his wand was cleverly trained on Christian, he clearly had the upper hand.

Christian didn't take his eyes off Silas. He recognized the carnage his "team" left behind without having to look now. His house had been destroyed, bodies were strewn about, blood was everywhere.
"I prefer it," he replied dryly. "But some jobs call for a bigger effort. You don't." Christian was unarmed with a wand trained at his chest. Diana was on the floor behind him, slowly losing breath. Christian too felt a coldness wash over him.

"It's nothing personal mate. Just a job." he said with an easy shrug. But it was more than a job, at least to Silas who was envious of Christian's notoriety and acclaim within Voldemort's organization, and within their community in general.
The fact that it was more than personal was evident in his next curse, "Crucio!"
Diana's eyes widened as she watched almost in slow motion as the red curse flew at her husband. She didn't have the strength to stop the curse or jump in front as she might have foolishly done. But she had enough strength, and the wherewithal to utter a spell to stop the bleeding in her chest, it was still so difficult to breathe.

He could have tried to leap out of the way, but that would have left Diana open without Christian's body to act as a shield. He could have lunged at the man and knocked him off balance, but there was no time. The curse came suddenly and knocked Christian to his knees, howling in pain at what felt like his body being ripped to shreds by a thousand jagged knives.

Silas held the spell, there was a mild snarl on his face as he watched Christian spasm in agony.
Diana's expression swiftly changed to panic in addition to pain. She could barely breathe, but she was determined to hold on for her family. Using what strength she could she flung a blade toward Silas.
It caught his attention breaking Silas' concentration for a moment, but it was a small reprieve as he cast the spell again. He didn't want to kill Christian quickly, he wanted the man to suffer.

Christian tried to resist but he was weakened from the first curse and unable to hold out when the second came on suddenly. He was on his hands and knees now, his deep, anguished screams echoing through the house. There was a blinding light emanating from behind his eyes and then suddenly...
Diana was dressed in nothing but a matching set of black undergarments, stockings fastened to the garter belt around her waist, and black high heels. Her hair was curled and voluptuous, her makeup accented her almond shaped eyes with deep red lips that looked like a juicy red apple. Within thirty seconds she had skillfully and eloquently slit the throats of three attackers with only a knife in each hand.
Sinfully dangerous.
Christian struggled to regain control of himself, to fight against the pain. He managed to crawl only a single pace before the agony took hold again. This time there was something else.
Diana looked tired, beat to hell by life as she sat on the bed with a file sprawled out before her. Christian yelled something at her and stood and left the room. When she was gone, Christian made the bed. He didn't understand why she had to sleep in Alyx's bed when there was a perfectly good bed in their room.
Christian turned and pulled open the top drawer of the dresser. Inside were records he had purchased as a welcome home gift to Alyx. His heart ached knowing she was out there, possibly alone, not knowing they were coming for her.
What was happening?! Christian cried out again and managed to take one more step from his knees but he buckled and feel to the floor, his body writhing uncontrollably from the pain.

Diana groaned once more, she could feel Christian slipping away from her. She reached for him, a somber expression on her face. She tried to smile. She tried to tell him she loved him.
"How touching." Silas spat, "But I've had enough of this. Avada-"
Derek didn't have the strength to cast the killing curse, or a curse of any particular efficiency, but if he didn't do something his friends would die. Taking a page from Diana's book he fired the muggle weapon toward Silas, with his blurry vision however he missed a killing mark and hit the man's shoulder.
Silas sensing he was out numbered now that he couldn't keep Christian down with his wounded arm, and Derek aiming for another shot, chose to retreat, but not without a parting shot, "This isn't over Ward. You can't cover all your assets all the time." he snarled before apparating away.

Christian panted on the floor as he rolled onto his side. Silas was gone, there was nothing he could do at that moment to stop the bastard. He heard Burke's shuffling upstairs and silently thanked the man for saving his life. Or Diana's life. It didn't matter Derek's motivation, Christian was thankful for the effort and the outcome.
His body ached and his head was fuzzy but he knew he needed to get to Diana. He climbed to his feet, pushing through the shaky feeling in his legs and the light-headedness that disoriented him. The room was growing darker but he found her and fell to her side.
"Diana," he said breathlessly. "Stay with me."

She looked up to see his face, she was able to smile, but it faded a second later as she felt as though she were drowning. She began coughing and bright red blood stained her teeth. Panic showed in her eyes, it wasn't the first time she had been shot in the chest, nor was it her first collapsed lung, but they had waited so long already.
Derek shuffled to the pair, still disoriented and weak but gaining strength. He knelt beside the couple.
"Turn her on her side." he ordered after seeing the wound.

Christian felt a swelling panic take over at the sight of Diana's blood. He couldn't lose her! He moved swiftly, following Derek's instructions to roll her to her side. He pushed the hair out of her face.
"Stay with her," he said gruffly to Derek as he pulled himself to his feet and stepped over Diana's body. His wand was still on the floor and he grabbed it as he headed through the sitting room. He managed his way to his office and pushed past the dead bodies that were lying in front of the door. The window was broken, glass covered the floor. There was a sudden movement in the corner and Christian didn't hesitate. The room filled with green light and the straggler of Silas' gang was dead.
Christian moved to the desk, the darkness growing further. Christian felt cold and weak. He found the mirror in his desk drawer and called for Hanley. Only a few seconds later he heard the good doctor apparate and make an exclamation of horror as he stepped through the broken front door and went straight for Diana. Christian collapsed in his office.
