"No, there's no countercurse." Derek said tentatively, "But there is a way to reverse the effects."
Derek was uncomfortable explaining the process. How did you tell a man who wanted to kill you that the answer to his lost memories was to torture him?
"You're not going to like it." he added for good measure, then sighed and explained, "Your memories are never truly gone, just buried. Magic's good, but it doesn't erase the data, it just shuffles it around to a place your mind wouldn't go. But if you stress the mind deeply then memories can be recovered. However the longer you wait, the worse it is."

"Stress the mind? You mean pain? You aim to torture the memories back?" Christian didn't want his memories of Diana back, whatever they might be. But he didn't enjoy not having all the information. He wasn't sure he was considering it now, but just in case Burke had only recently learned of this "cure" Christian needed to get the information from him now.

"I told you, you wouldn't like it." Derek said only mildly defensively, "But I figured it was better to know in case the need ever came up." he gave Christian a look as though to say the need had come up.

Christian's head nodded faintly in agreement. "Yes, it is helpful to know. Especially since you won't be around to tell me about it later."
Christian drew his wand. "Obliviate." While the man was temporarily unconscious he implanted altered memories of sending away Diana so that the man wouldn't come snooping around, then he dropped Derek off at his own home.
