It had been building over the past week. Diana's illness had gotten better thanks to the potions she was taking, but at the same time her moods had become more irregular. She didn't remember feeling this way the last time she had been pregnant, but the circumstances behind the previous pregnancy were vastly different.
Diana felt as though she were going insane. The thoughts and emotions spinning in her mind became a whirlpool of anxiety. She was tense and restless, then listless and depressed. She'd start a fight only to end it by walking away and hiding in the second bedroom. She hated what she was doing and what she was becoming but at the same time felt powerless to stop it. She wanted Christian's affection, his softness, but at the same time rejected the idea of being soft.
Something had to be done.
She curled on her side in bed (in the second bedroom). Yes, something had to be done, but she wasn't going to do it.

His frustration with Diana mounting over the past two weeks. She was ill and lethargic before Dr Hanley's visit, then moody and manic the following week. Christian could handle the traditionally volatile demeanor; the screaming, throwing things at him, slamming doors. Diana was fiery and her rage was such a turn on, he'd put up with the broken antiques and headaches she brought on. But this new Diana was not attractive. She'd start a fight and then give in or give up. She seemed to have no passion one minute and then suddenly so much passion that she was blubbering all over the place. Christian couldn't stand it anymore.
He stood in the doorway, leaning against the door jamb with his arms folded across his chest. "Get up, Diana."

"I'm tired Christian. Go away." she answered. And she was tired. She was bone weary. It was as if the news of her pregnancy brought home the two years of constant running, and the fourteen years of depression before that. She just wanted to sleep and wake up in a world that wasn't so confusing, one that didn't require so much energy to get through the day.

He was sick of hearing that she was tired. All she ever did anymore was sleep. She couldn't possibly be tired, and yet here she was again, lying on the spare bed. She hardly slept in his bed, and when she did she would get up in the middle of the night and move to the spare room. "Get out of the bed, Diana," he said a little more firmly.

"No." she told him just as firmly. She was tired, but it was more emotional and mental fatigue than physical. The baby added to it. It was physically demanding to create a child.
Of course Christian didn't know any of that. He couldn't possibly know that at that moment Diana wanted him to lay with her and tell her that everything would be fine and they'd figure things out. Of course twenty minutes ago that would have been the last thing she wanted. Oh the joys of pregnancy.

Christian crossed the room and grabbed Diana by the arm. He glared at her, tired of her nonsense. "This isn't cute. Get your ass out of bed."

"Get your damn hands off me!" she yelled in his face before twisting out of his grip, she ended up kneeling on the bed. She turned away from him and stood up on the other side, "What? What the f*ck do you want? Godric." she said exasperated.

He didn't attempt to maintain his grip as she struggled against him. He let go of her immediately and stared at her in disbelief as she asked what he wanted. "I want you to stop acting like a sullen teenager! Act like yourself, for f*ck's sake!"

"I am acting like myself." she argued, "I'm just bloody tired, alright?"
She sat back on the bed, then laid down almost out of spite.

Flames grew behind his eyes as Diana returned to the bed. "You don't get to stop when you're tired. You stop when you're done! And this isn't f*cking done until we have Alyx! She's out there waiting for us while you're lying about in bed."

Everything he said was a sentiment she had shared before finding out she was pregnant. She had battled with herself for this long about whether she could return to the field or whether it was too dangerous.
"I assume that's your way of telling me we have an opening on Ling?" she asked still exasperated. She rolled onto her elbows and stared up at him, "You're going to have to make up your mind and stick to it Christian, or is that you just like to yell at me? Last week you were demanding I slow down, now that I have you're demanding I speed up. I'm still committed to finishing the job and getting to Alyx."

She was grasping at straws now. And Christian was beginning to wonder if she really was committed to finding their daughter. It seemed as though the closer they got to their goal, the stranger she began to act. Maybe she was having second thoughts about finding Alyx, but Christian certainly hadn't. Surprisingly, the idea of being a dad had grown on him and he was eager to meet his daughter.
"Last week you were bloody injured, Diana. Hanley had you on bed rest. If you had kept going you would have jeopardized the whole f*cking mission and I wasn't about to let you hurt yourself further! But you've been cleared now, so start acting like it! You may want to take your bloody time, but I want to find my daughter!"

"I'm not taking my bloody time! You're the one with all the f*cking intel! Godric! I've asked a thousand times for your leads on Ling and O'Grady but it was all on your f*cking timeline. So that's it Christian. I give over. I'm tired of fighting you in addition to fighting everyone else to get to Alyx. If we have an opening on Ling then say so, so we can get to business otherwise just leave me the f*ck alone." she growled at him.

It wasn't his timeline that dictated when he shared the intel on the two board members he'd located. Diana had asked repeatedly for the information when the bandages on her shoulder were still being changed multiple times a day and she winced with every breath she took. When she was healed enough they took care of O'Grady. If she'd get her sh*t together they could take care of Ling. Christian might have held the information, but the timeline was unknowingly Diana's.
Without saying anything Christian turned and left the room, heading downstairs for his office. He left the door open as he went to his desk, unlocked the top drawer, and pulled a file.

Diana thought about following him. She really did. She thought she should show him that she was ready and willing and just as eager as ever. But then she sat on the bed and laid down out of spite. It was his fault she was moody and tired all the time. Bloody idiot. Not that she was ready to tell him the reason. She was a bloody idiot too.

He returned a few moments later with the file on Ling and flung it at her, sneering that she'd laid back down. He stood in the doorway, staring at her. He didn't understand what was going on with her and it worried him. He showed his concern by screaming at her. He had been alone too long.
The file contained the most recent updates. Ling was currently in New Zealand, where he had been for the past two weeks. But the news of yet another murdered board member had obviously spooked him and he was planning on moving again. He'd changed safe houses in New Zealand three times since Christian's men first located him. But now he was leaving the country. Ling had purchased two tickets on a cruise ship set to travel round trip from Auckland, New Zealand to Sydney, Australia but Christian's sources had also discovered that Ling had villa prepared just outside of Sydney. It looked as though Ling and whomever his accomplice was would be ending their cruise early and staying in Australia.

She brought her hands up to ward off the file from hitting her in the face. Her eyes were red from trying not to cry. She glared at him and took the file, opening it calmly just to irk him. She stayed quiet, tossing pages aside as though none of it mattered to her, but she was keenly taking the information in.

Her apparent flippant attitude to the information that she'd screamed for aggravated him further. If she was trying to annoy him she was more than successful. He waited until she'd tossed aside all of the pages, having appeared to have read none of them. "Well?"

"Well we should discuss it with Derek." she said casually. She had been thinking about it a lot lately. She needed a buffer with Christian. She was always worried he'd see into her mind and find out about the baby, and she wasn't ready for that. He had controlled her so much when she was injured (for her own safety), but she wasn't ready or willing to give him that kind of control over her for the next nine months.

Burke. Christian's hands tightened into fists at his side. She always wanted Derek involved, as if Christian wasn't capable of handling the situation without a chaperone. "Owl your bloody boyfriend, then."
Christian's attitude toward Derek had certainly improved the more time they spent together. He was a skilled fighter and rather quick-witted. Christian was beginning to see him as a team mate, not just someone who tagged along because of an infatuation with Diana. But today Christian was in no mood for Diana to cling to Burke like a lifeline.
