Kylie left her London apartment to take a walk. She preferred to live in the muggle part of London because she felt safer. Sure, Kylie loved magic and used it while in her apartment, but something about staying among muggles made her feel safer. No one in her apartment building ever really bothered her. She was always polite to the older couple who lived a floor below her. Other than that, she didn't have many interactions with others.
Her trips to see Dr. Burkhardt seemed a little better than the first. There was something about him Kylie couldn't place and it bothered her. She had nightmares after trying so hard to remember him, but she didn't really remember the nightmares after she woke up.
Kylie pulled her brown hair back into a loose braid and let it go. It was one of the usual London days, but today seemed a little different, there was more sunshine and a bit more blue sky. Today was going to be a good day. She already started on a great note. A list of things to do was in her pocket as she stepped onto the sidewalks of London. A bit of grocery shopping and maybe a little personal shopping depending on how long she took her time.
As she had to squint her eyes just a little at the bright sunlight, there was a light smile on Kylie's face. Although she was feeling friendly, she didn't really make eye contact with any one on her way to the grocers.
Reaching the grocers, Kylie picked up her basket and started down one of the aisles.

Moving into a new neighborhood was always an adjustment. Ewan was used to it by now, but it was never easy. He felt like he'd been moving around most of his life. No place had ever really felt like home.
London, at least, was a big city, and it was easy to blend in. That was what he usually wanted to do; just blend in and become part of the crowd. The trouble was, you could be in the middle of a crowd and still be alone. They were all just nameless faces. The trouble with anonymity was that loneliness came along with it.
Ewan had taken an apartment in the muggle section of London, about three blocks from the Avalon hotel, where he had just started work as a bellhop. He was all moved in and settled now, but he had no food, so it was off to the local grocery store to stock up.
He had come to London for a reason. Only one reason could motivate Ewan, who suffered from terrible asthma, to move to fog-ridden London. That reason was Kylie. He had been searching for her ever since she left him, and a couple of private investigators that he'd hired had finally found her, right here in London. So here he was. He didn't expect to find her right away, but he had to try.
So it was a strange twist of fate, then, that brought Ewan to the local grocery store just at the same time that Kylie was there. He was already there when she walked in, and didn't see her at first. He was in the produce section, trying to pick out some oranges.

The grocery store was not one of Kylie's favorite places to go. In fact, she hated going most places alone. She never really knew what to expect going into a store, but that was the chance she had to face.
It wasn't her day to go visit with Dr. Burkhardt, so she took her time as she looked around after she picked up her basket. The produce section was the first section in the store. Eating healthy was something she tried to continue to do. Looking to apples first, Kylie made her way over. However, on her way over she did notice a tall, skinny man with dark curly like hair. She stopped for a moment, behind him. Every time she noticed a man with the same description, she thought about Ewan. Although, he couldn't be in London. He was probably still back where they used to live. He had probably forgotten about her after she probably scared him to death on the day she left. She left mainly because she didn't want to hurt him.
Shaking the thoughts, Kylie turned her back and picked out a few apples before putting them in a produce bag to place in her basket. It was a common thing for her to hum very quietly to herself as she shopped. The song was always the same. Once she finished at the stand, she turned back to the man who still happened to be there. She wasn't exactly sure what caused her to speak or anything but before she could stop herself, she said "The best oranges are usually in the middle of the pile," in a friendly tone.
Before the man could turn around however, Kylie had already turned away from him heading away from the produce.

Ewan didn't have the same instincts that some people had to know when he was being watched. He was completely unaware of Kylie or even that anyone was looking at him at all, until she spoke. But that voice.... he would recognize that voice anywhere.
Startled, Ewan dropped the orange that he was holding and turned around to see who had spoken. It couldn't be... surely it couldn't be so easy as to have her literally just walk into him in the grocery store.
She had turned away by then, and all he saw was the back of her head. But even that felt like a punch in the gut to him. He stood there, dumbfounded for a moment, watching her and trying to find his voice. Luckily for him, the orange that he'd dropped did his work for him. It rolled along the dirty linoleum floor and came to a stop next to the girl's foot.

Stopping at the end of the produce section to look at the small packaging of caramel, she felt something hit her foot. Kylie looked down to find an orange that rolled into her foot. Bending down, she picked up the orange and stood up. Turning to return the orange to the correct bin, she froze completely.
Kylie's eyes met the eyes of the man standing not too far in front of her. She could recognize those eyes anywhere, she didn't even have to see the rest of his face. Opening her mouth to finally say something, she found that for a moment that she couldn't say a word. What was he doing here? Why was he here?
After swallowing hard, Kylie found her voice, but only managed to say his name in a small voice, "Ewan?"

"Kylie," he breathed. He felt like the rest of his breath was trapped in his chest as he looked at her. She looked beautiful and vulnerable, and for a long moment, he felt rooted in place. And then, as if being moved by some unseen force, he abandoned his cart and ran over to her, putting his arms around her hesitantly, as if afraid she'd rear up like a frightened colt.
"It is you... I thought it was your voice, but I didn't dare hope... I've been looking for you. When you disappeared, I feared the worst...."

She didn't move, but she placed her basket on the floor just as he reached her. Her arms went around him. For a moment she buried her head in his chest. Questions started to pop into her head. Kylie was surprised that he was here. She thought she would never see him again.
"You, you looked for me," she asked after a moment as she finally looked back up to him. "I, I thought I scared you and I thought you'd hate me."

It felt so good just to hold her in his arms. He wanted to hold her forever, and just let the rest of the world come crashing down around them. He kissed the top of her head as she buried her face in his chest, and for a long moment, everything was perfect.
But she pulled away, looking up at him with those eyes of hers. Ewan thought his heart would break at the sight of them. "I could never hate you," he told her. "And I'm not scared of you, either. I'm scared for you. I just get this feeling you're in some kind of trouble."

That day, no rational thought had occurred to her. Kylie didn't ever think that maybe he was worried for her than about really what she had turned into.
Looking up at him, he looked good. Nothing had really changed about him and Kylie liked the familiarity. At the mention of him having the feeling of her being in some kind of trouble, she buried her face in his chest again. She may or may not have been in trouble, but she didn't know how to explain it. Ewan always did a great job at reading her. "I'm fine," she said with a muffled tone as her face was buried in her chest. Right now, she felt the safest she felt in awhile.

He had a thousand questions for her, but he didn't want it to turn into the Spanish Inquisition. Right now, all that really mattered was that they were together and she was in his arms again.
She still looked beatuiful, and he was relieved to see that she seemed relatively healthy and unharmed. But that didn't stop him from worrying about her. He remembered all too clearly the blank expression in her eyes when she'd had her "fit" the last time he saw her. It wasn't her, not really. He was sure of that.
"I'm just so glad to see you," he said, brushing his lips against her temple. "Uh... is there somewhere we can go to talk? Or did you want to finish your shopping?"

Kylie was still trying to get it through her head that Ewan actually looked for her and wasn't scared of her. As much as she wanted to run away at that moment, she couldn't. The look he gave her made her stay.
"I'm glad to see you too," she said pulling away from him so she could look up. "I can always come back and shop later. It's not a I need this right now situation. We can come back here later." There was a lot to talk about she knew. Of course, she could tell Ewan just about everything without any problems.
"There's a coffee shop down the street, or there's even like a little park area a few more blocks down from the coffee shop."

If she had tried to run away, Ewan would have chased her. He would chase her the rest of his life if he had to. There was just something so special about her, and he just couldn't let her go.
"OK," he said, feeling a surge of relief. He still rather expected her to run away, or at least try to push him away. There were always walls between them, and he hoped he would finally be able to break through them. "Yeah, I can shop later, too. The coffee shop sounds good. Or... actually, I have an apartment just a couple of blocks away. I just moved in. Of course, I don't have any food or anything... that's why I'm here."

For a moment, Kylie was amazed again at the feeling of she finally belonged somewhere. She didn't feel like she was really different anymore. It was something she missed.
"You, you just moved here," she asked. It had been a little while since Kylie felt cared for. "I live in the apartments that are a couple of blocks away too." In a way it made her happy that he actually took the time to find her. "You can always eat at my apartment." She smiled and then took his hand. "How did you find me," Kylie asked as they left the grocery store.

"Maybe we live in the same building," he said, smiling. He really couldn't believe his luck. What were the chances that, of all the grocery stores in the city, they would walk into the same one, only days after he'd arrived in the city? Ewan was a big believer in fate... and to him, this seemed like a sign. He was supposed to be with her.
"I hired a private investigator to find you," he said. "I've been searching for you ever since you left. They only had to say you were living in London, and I came here right away. I'm working at the Avalon Hotel.... what are you doing? Do you have a job?"

It almost seemed that nothing had changed now that Ewan was there. Kylie felt some sort of normalcy. She was still attempting to wrap her mind around the fact that he actually came looking for her, even after what happened.
At the mention of hiring a private investigator, she stopped for a moment. That action alone caused more emotion than she felt in awhile. She looked at him, almost crying. "You went through all of that to find me?" For the first time since she ran, Kylie felt cared for. Now she thought she might have really over reacted when she left.
She shook her head for a moment and smiled as she squeezed his hand. "Currently I'm not really doing anything. I'm in between jobs at the moment. I haven't really found the right job yet that I feel comfortable doing. I did apply at a small boutique a few blocks away so we'll see how that goes."

"I would do anything for you," Ewan said honestly.
Maybe there were limits, but for the moment, Ewan couldn't think of any that would matter to him. He wanted to help her, to be there for her, and most importantly, to love her. He had gone to great lengths to track her down, and yet in the end, they had literally stumbled into each other. There had to be something in that... some sort of force at work, bringing them together.
"Well, I hope you get the job," he said. "If not, maybe I can put in a good word for you at the hotel. I only just started, but we'll see."
Merlin, she looked good. He had almost forgotten the color of her eyes and how they sparkled when she looked at him.
"Please just promise me that you won't run away again, OK?" he said.

In a way it almost felt like she never left. This was the way that she wanted it to be. Finally, something felt right, normal in her life. She finally felt safe.
There was a light smile that appeared on Kylie's face as she reached up and touched Ewan's cheek. "I won't run away again, I promise." If she ran again, she had no idea where she was going to go and more than likely Ewan would follow her again. Plus, she thought that things had been calm and she wasn't scared that she was going to have another episode anytime soon.
Kylie took his hand again and started walking down the sidewalk again. "How has everything been?"

She was right in thinking that he would follow her if she tried to leave again. He believed that there were some things--and some people--in this world that were worth fighting for. And she was one of them. He didn't even really know why, but he knew that the connection between them was important. Love was a strange thing... it went beyond logic and rational thought and went deep into the heart and soul.
He would never tell her those things, though. She would only laugh at him for being poetic and sappy. And maybe he was.... but he couldn't help himself.
"Things weren't the same after you left," he told her. "Everything felt wrong... empty. That's why I needed to find you. I feel like things will be OK again now that we're together."

When Ewan mentioned things felt different after she left, Kylie regretted leaving. Of course, she did regret leaving anyway, but now it felt different hearing him say that. She smiled up at him as they walked and squeezed his hand.
"I think so too. We're in a new place, so I don't see why things won't be good." Things had started off good. She had been seeing her therapist and now Ewan was back. Maybe not all the people that mattered to her would always disappear. He did come after her after all.
"You know, you've always had great timing. I'm glad to see that hasn't changed." Ewan knew her better than anyone did, even though he didn't know everything that happened to her. Not even Kylie knew everything that had ever happened to her. There were sometimes she would shut him out, but she wanted to work on that. At the moment, he was the only person she trusted with her life.
"You know, if you wanted, I could cook dinner and you could come over tonight. We could do nothing other than just laying around like we used to."

"I wish I could take credit for the timing," Ewan replied. "I came here at the right time, but meeting you today... that was just pure luck. I never expected to find you this quickly. I feel like it was meant to be."
It was going to be different this time, Ewan could feel it. He had always had a little bit of a sixth sense that he never could quite explain, and this time it was telling him that things were going to be OK. Maybe not right away... but eventually. She might try to push him away, but he knew that he was just going to keep pulling her back again. She needed him, maybe now more than ever.
"Dinner sounds good," he said with a smile. "You'll make your famous enchliadas again?"
