In a way it almost felt as if they didn't even leave each other. There were no awkward moments, and it seemed that they pretty much picked up as if they had just gone to work for the day and came home.
Kylie was glad that now there was something in her life she could count on. Of course she could count on going to her therapy sessions, but that was different. Ewan was something different. He mattered to her more than anything, which was why she ran in the first place. She was scared she was going to hurt him and that was something she never wanted to do. He was stubborn, and that was something she needed. If she thought about, Ewan was always going to pull her back. He was her anchor.
"Of course I'll make them if that's what you want." Kylie smiled. "I'll have to make a run back to the store to get everything, but that won't be a problem." It felt good to be able to look forward to something like this again.

Ewan was just relieved that she wasn't trying to push him away or run away from him again. All the time he was looking for her, that had been his biggest worry--that she wouldn't want to see him. That maybe it was him she was running from, and she would run away again once he found her. But they were together, and she was happy. It was just the way it had been before.
"That sounds good," he said, smiling. "We can go back to the store together, if you want. But right now... I just want to look at you. I've missed you so much."

For the first time since she ran, Kylie blushed. She smiled shyly up at him. The way that Ewan would look at her always caused goosebumps to rise up on her skin, but not in a bad way. He made her feel like she was normal and like she meant something. She wasn't just a number in the world.
Entering the coffee shop, Kylie felt at ease rather than on edge. "The chairs in the back are the most comfortable ones," she commented leading him in that direction as the line was fairly long. "I've missed you too," she said as they reached the back. "What happened after I left?"

Ewan had always felt strangely out of step with the rest of the world, like he didn't know where he fit in with everyone else. That had changed when he met Kylie. It was as though he had always known her and he had been looking for her all along without realizing it. She was his purpose in life, his reason for being. He had to save her... he didn't know what he had to save her from, but maybe it was herself.
But when she had left him so suddenly... he felt adrift, lost all over again. That was when he'd gone into the hospital. The flashbacks had been getting worse, and so had the headaches and seizures. He needed to rest in a comfortable environment, where someone could help him make sense of what was going on in his head.
But for some reason, Ewan wasn't ready to tell Kylie about all of this. How would it have sounded if he told her he had checked into a mental institution after she left? He had done it voluntarily, and had left the same way. Still, it could be a bit of a conversation-stopper. They had just reunited, and it seemed too soon to go into everything that had happened.
So he just said, "I was sick for a while. I'm better now, though. Although the London smog is not going to be good for my asthma."

Kylie knew that Ewan did have health problems. She always felt guilty for leaving. Some of that guilt was wondering what if he needed her? Of course he never really had any serious problems before but Kylie liked to look after him.
She reached over and put a hand on his arm. "I'm glad you're doing better. I'm sorry I wasn't there for you." For a moment, she looked down. The guilt was there but what happened, happened, and she couldn't change it even though she wanted to. She looked back up to look at his face."But the smog is better on some days than others. We could always go to St. Mungo's and see a healer there. There might be something they can do for you if your asthma gets bad."

Ewan didn't want her to feel guilty, and he rather regretted mentioning it at all. In a way, yes, his illness had involved her, but it was certainly not her fault, and he didn't blame her for it. In fact, he had been glad that she wasn't there to see him like that. And the fact that he was standing here with her now and feeling so positive and healthy was actually a direct result of his time in the hospital. Because of his illness then, and the treatment he received for it, he was better now. He hadn't even had a seizure in almost a year.
"it's all right. I'm better now, and I'm here, and that's all that matters. Let's not regret the past, OK? What's done is done and there's no changing it. I'm just happy that we found each other again."
He'd had many attempts to treat his asthma, however, and those had been significantly less successful. It seemed even wizards didn't know how to heal asthma... they could only treat the symptoms, just as muggles did. So he kept his inhaler with him at all times and tried to pace himself whenever he could.
"We can try to go to St. Mungo's, but so far, no one's found a really good treatment for asthma. It's OK. I still keep my inhaler around my neck, so I can always reach it."

Kylie smiled when he said that he was happy they found each other again. "It almost seems like one of those cheesy muggle love stories," she said with a hint of laughter in her voice. She had a soft spot for those types of stories, just like almost every girl. Used to, she would read them all the time back home.
"Well, as long as you're feeling healthy and everything, that's all that matters. We can continue to make you feel healthy." Kylie smiled. It was strange how she felt at home with Ewan. She could be lost somewhere, but she would never feel that way if he was there too.
"Speaking of feeling healthy, I started to see a doctor at St. Mungo's after I got to London. Things started to get better and no more headaches or flipping on anyone. For some reason though, my doctor got changed a little bit ago." That part still puzzled Kylie as to why Dr. Cardenas would switch her over to Burkhardt, but he seemed nice enough so far. "But this doctor is not too bad so far. He's rather nice."

"I guess it is," Ewan said, laughing. "Only better... because it's real."
It really was no secret that Ewan was a romantic. When they were together before, he was the guy who would show up at her place with a bouquet of roses and a bottle of champagne. The surprising thing was that he'd never really been with any other girls before her. Everything he did had come from his heart, and it just felt right to be with her.
"Anyway, I'm doing fine now. I just have to be careful and not overdo it, especially on smoggy days. The weather's pretty nice today, though... so I should be fine."
It took a minute for Ewan to realize that Kylie was talking about seeing a psychiatrist. He was worried for a moment that she was sick, but when she mentioned the headaches and the "flipping out" he realized what she meant. This probably would have been the moment to tell her about his own time in the hospital--that it had nothing to do with his asthma or the occasional seizures he used to get. But for some reason, he held back.
"I'm glad this doctor is helping you," he said. "I just want you to be OK... I can't lose you again."

"On the days that it is too smoggy to go out, we'll figure out something to do inside." She didn't mind spending day inside if she had too. Most of the rainy days caused her to stay inside unless she absolutely had to go out.
Kylie reached over and laced their fingers together. "I'll be around for a long time. I've figured out how somethings work and that sort of thing, so it's better now. Besides, I have my anchor back so I'm pretty sure I'll be okay." She didn't tell him about how some people seemed familiar. She wanted too but she held back. There were a few things she needed to figure out first before she really said anything.
"Plus, I'm in no hurry of going anywhere again. I'm home again." Kylie smiled and squeezed his hand.

Ewan was generally an optimist, so he genuinely believed that, now that they were together, everything would be all right. Oh, he knew there were still issues to deal with, but they would do it together. That was the way it was supposed to be.
"Oh, does that mean you're going to take care of me?" he teased, giving her hand a squeeze.
He liked the idea that they could take care of each other and just take on the world together. He felt like they had always been linked, long before they even remembered it.
"You're going to have to show me around London, you know. It seems like you've been here for a while, and I only just got here."

"That does mean I'm going to take care of you," she said with a smile. Kylie liked taking care of Ewan. She liked the feeling that she was needed and wanted. It made her feel somewhat normal.
"I haven't been here all that long, but I will be more than happy to show you London." Kylie's face lit up. "There are so many little shops that are amazing." She did like London. It was a place were you could lose yourself in a crowd. "There are quite a few places around here that I think you'll enjoy. I haven't done one of those sightseeing tours yet because I didn't want to go alone. Maybe we can go on one together."

Ewan leaned against her, unable to keep from smiling. "How about this?" he suggested. "You take care of me and Ill take care of you. Sound fair?"
Yes, he was the one with the health problems, not her. But he still believed that, whether she knew it or not, she was in trouble. It was something of a gut feeling, but he had learned to always listen to his gut feelings in matters like this. They needed each other and could help each other.
"A London sightseeing tour sounds great," he said. "I've always wanted to see the Crown Jewels." He chuckled. "But actually, I'm just as fine with going back to the grocery store, as long as I'm with you."

Kylie laughed. "We'll take care of each other, alright." If she really stopped and thought about, Ewan took more care of her than she did of him. Ewan was always the one that kept her level.
"We could get leave early in the morning tomorrow and have all day in London. We can go to Buckingham Palace, the Clock Tower, and all the other places. Today we can just relax." She smiled again.

Yes, tomorrow they could go sightseeing, and later they could think about the other issues that still hung in the air between them. They still hadn't really talked about what had happened and why she felt the need to leave. They'd mentioned it, but there was more to it than that. He felt certain that there was a reason it had happened. And no matter how happy they were now, he still feared it would happen again. He wasn't afraid of her, though. He was just afraid of losing her.
And he still had to tell her about what had happened to him since she had left. It wasn't an easy thing to tell someone that you cared about... I was in a mental institution for a while... It had been voluntary, and he had been free to leave whenever he wanted, but still... it was tough to admit to Kylie that he'd needed that much help.
"It sounds perfect," he replied. "Maybe you can help me figure out how to decorate my new apartment."

"Decorating," she said as her eyes lit up. Kylie loved to decorate things. Maybe that was the type of job she should look for, but for right now she wasn't concerned about a job. "I would love to!" She squeezed his hand. It made her feel normal, sitting with Ewan and having a conversation. She felt like she mattered and not just another body moving about taking up space in the world. There was always a feeling that she was supposed to be someone, and maybe this was the someone she was supposed to be. The someone that was with Ewan, or at least that was what she hoped.
"We can figure out decorations while we cook dinner! Then we can also curl up and watch a movie that we'll probably end up falling asleep to, but that that's perfectly fine with me."

Ewan was an optimist by nature, and a part of him really did believe that, now that he and Kylie were back together, everything would be all right. But he wasn't completely naive, either. There were issues they'd have to talk about. Secrets to reveal, baggage to unload. It couldn't be so easy as stepping back into a life together after so much time apart.
But all of that could wait. It could wait until tomorrow. They could lose themselves in fantasy tonight, get reacquainted with the feeling of just being together. Tomorrow they could work out the issues.
"That sounds perfect," he said, partially in response to what she was saying, and partially in response to his own thoughts. He pressed a kiss on her forehead and held her close for a moment. "I love you."
He wasn't sure if he'd said it yet, but even if he had, it still seemed important.

Weeks of therapy helped Kylie pull herself back together, or at least made her believe she pulled herself back together. Things seemed okay although it felt like there was a huge blank spot in her memory that she couldn't fill. She knew that it was not wise to attempt to fill that spot now, she could only fill in what memories she hadn't made yet and cherish the ones she had.
She always liked when Ewan would kiss her on her forehead. There would always be a warm tingly feeling she would get. For a moment she closed her eyes with her arms around him. Here she felt safe, like nothing in the world could harm her. Kylie did not recall a moment when he actually said that he loved her, but she always knew. Hearing the words did not frighten her, but made her feel stronger and like she was not just some other person in a crowd. She smiled and looked up at him.
"I love you too," she replied. This time she leaned up to press a light, quick kiss against his lips. He felt like home. She knew that this was were she belonged and whatever happened before didn't matter. Sure, there was still a lot that weighed on her and she wanted tell him things and wanted to know what happened after she left, but there would be time for that later. At the moment things were peaceful and she wanted to keep that blanket of perfectness over them for just a little while before peeling it back.
Kylie took his hand and led him in the direction of their apartment building.

Ewan smiled as she kissed him lightly. It was a soft, sweet kiss that made him ache inside for all the time they'd lost. And now that they were back together, it didn't feel quite the way it used to... it was better. He'd missed her so much, and now that he was with her again, he knew with absolute certainty that he never wanted to be parted from her ever again. She was his life... she was everything that mattered. And whatever happened, this time they would face it together.
He followed her to her apartment, her hand warm and soft in his. It wasn't long before they reached a building, and as she paused in the doorway to fumble for her keys, he put his arms around her and pulled her close, kissing her deeply. He realized he hadn't done that yet, and the timing felt right. Everything was better now that they were together.
(I was thinking we could start a new thread...)
