"Oh of course, hence the name Rocky Road," he responded teasing her in return. "I hit a rock in the road while I was at the craft store." Noah gave her a wink just to let her know he was still teasing her.
"Personally, I like to be right in the middle of everything. It seems better if you are right in the middle of everything. If you're off in the corner you might miss something. Sitting by the window is not so bad. You get to see two different worlds there. Those outside then you can also see what is going on inside, however, if you're in the middle of everything, you can see everywhere."
Noah led her toward the middle of the shop. "Unless of course you prefer to sit somewhere else."

Marcy laughed. “Oh, is that what happened?” she teased. “That explains everything… I can’t believe I missed the rocks in the craft store. You really need to be more careful about such things, you know.”
It seemed almost impossible to believe that she had only just met this man less than an hour ago. It seemed like forever. They just got along so well. Things like this didn’t just happen every day; she knew that much. But she wasn’t going to let herself think too much about it or what it could mean.
“Right in the middle is fine by me,” she agreed as she followed him to a table in the center of the room. “Most people, I think, are corner-sitters. Ever notice that the corner seats and the ones along the wall are always the first ones taken? I like being in the middle of everything. I think that’s why I like my job… I get to see everything that’s going on. Any guests in the Ministry have to come by me first.”

"A girl after my own heart," Noah said with a laugh. "I'm glad someone else likes to be in the middle. Besides, even if you do sit in the middle, it doesn't always mean you get noticed. People's eyes usually drift to the corners first anyway." He gave a smile and waited for Marcy to sit before he did.
"Sitting in the middle sort of feels empowering sometimes. Besides, I like watching people to see how they act. It's always entertaining to attempt to figure out what they're thinking or saying if you can't hear them." He grinned and took a bite out of his ice cream. "Leaves room for a lot of creativity really if you are in the middle."

Marcy sat down and smiled at him as he took his seat. “It’s always funny when you catch just little snippets of other people’s conversations,” she agreed. “I mean, not like I purposefully try to eavesdrop or anything, but sometimes you just can’t help it. I like to make up stories about the people around me, just based on the things I hear and the way people look. I’m sure most of my stories are wrong, but they’re fun, anyway. Did you ever do that?”

"Only all the time," Noah responded before licking the ice cream off his lip. He flashed her his boyish grin. "It's usually one of the things that help me get through the day. I have to keep my creativity going some how or another." He laughed.
"Sometimes, however, those little snippets you were from people's conversations, those can be a little," Noah didn't finish his words but only widened his eyes and gave one shake of his head. Surely Marcy would understand. "But then again almost everything is usually laugh worthy." He gave her a wink then took more ice cream.

Marcy giggled, partially because of what he said, and partially because of the cute way he licked the ice cream off of his lip. "Yes, I know what you mean.... I've heard some very.... interesting... conversations before." She raised her eyebrows at him, just as a hint. "It's amazing the kinds of things people will talk about in piublic. It's like they forget that people can hear them."
She at a little more of her ice cream, then smiled playfully at him. "That couple over there," she began, nodding in their direction, "I think she's hoping he's going to propose to her, and he's trying to think of a nice way to tell her that he's running away to become a Tibetan monk."

"Which is why I love to watch and listen to people. Their candid moments are the best." It was always interesting to watch people when they thought that no one was watching them. They would more than likely be in their true nature rather than wearing a mask that they only wanted society to see.
"A Tibetan monk hm," he said glancing over to the couple Marcy was referring to. "I can see that. Or it could be that he's actually wanting her to make a big move but she's just putting on a mask to satisfy him, when in reality she really wants to become a nun."

Marcy giggled. "That's possible, too," she agreed, looking back over at the couple again. "Or maybe it's not religious at all. Maybe he's thinking about running off to become a rodeo clown."
She really was enjoying herself. It was amazing how well she and Noah seemed to click. Anyone who had been observing them would never have guessed that they had only known each other for an hour or so.

With a mouth full of ice cream, Noah made a 'mmhmm' sound. His gaze went back to the couple as he took a moment to think. "Or maybe it could be his birthday and she's excited about it while he is just the type to not want to really celebrate. Or, it could be that it's her birthday and she's excited about it and he's just putting on a mask that is not really showing any enthusiam but really he's going to do something special for her on her birthday as a surprise."
Noah looked back to Marcy for her opinion on his thoughts. He was also enjoying himself. Who would have thought that he would run into someone in the craft store who would love ice cream and do the same thing out in public while watching people? It was good to see someone's creative side. One's creative side usually showed a lot about them.

Marcy smiled. The kinds of stories people made up about others also said something about them. It could be easy to get into really shocking and scandalous stories about people, but she liked that his stories were cute and rather innocent. He was a romantic, she decided. There weren't a lot of guys like that around.
"Or maybe he actually is planning to propose to her and he's just really nervous about it, and she's actually completely clueless, because she's too busy talking about a really great sale on shoes."

Noah laughed. "That could be completely true. Or maybe it is their first date and she's very nervous so she just talks a lot which is a little overwhelming to him. Or maybe she is talking about how she wants to run off from her parents and he's thinking of ways of helping her get away."
There could end up being a million possiblities of what the couple was actually doing. Maybe they were right on one account, or maybe they weren't. Of course it was always more entertaining to come up with ideas of other people's lives. "You know Marcy, since you're such a great storyteller, I think that you could help me come up with my next story," he said with a wink.

Marcy took another mouthful of ice cream while she pretended to think about his suggestion. It was almost funny how it felt like they’d known each other forever. He was already asking her to spend more time with him, and while it wasn’t exactly a date, it still meant something.
“I would love to,” she replied, a playful grin on his face. “Maybe we could take turns telling the story and acting out the different parts.”

There were certain people that could meet each other for the first time and then before they knew it, it felt like they had known each other for a long time. Those types of people were the type that Noah wanted to hold on to. He didn't really meet that many people like that, but Marcy happened to be one of them.
"Acting out the different parts? That will be fun," he said with a laugh. "Sometimes with my dragon story, the children act it out because they know it so well. They usually ask me to tell it to them at least once everytime I'm there. They are going to love you, I am sure of it."

"Well of course they will," Marcy teased. "Why wouldn't they? I'm awesome, right? What's not to love?"
She was joking, of course, but Marcy had never been the kind of girl who wasted time feeling bad about herself. She was confident and playful and just enjoyed having fun with life and getting to know new people. What else was life about? It was too short to take it too seriously.
"I think you're going to have to tell me this famous dragon story of yours. I mean, if I'm going to help you with the pictures and everything, I should know the story, shouldn't I?"

"Yes, you're awesome," Noah said with a laugh. He had a feeling that he was going to have to tell his dragon story. "You probably should know the story. Sometimes the children do like to take the story on their own and while you're there they might end up changing it but its always fun to watch them take the story and run with it."
Noah was really fond of the children. Watching to them become creative and take a story into their own hands, was something else.
"So, the dragon story starts off with a little boy who is wondering through his village. He heard about a dragon roaming in the nearby forest. The dragon was told to be mean and told to have burned several villages already. The little boy was determined to become a dragon slayer. Going off with his sliver sword that his father made for him and the shield that his uncle made, the little boy set off to the forest to find the dragon. The forest was extremely quiet and then all of a sudden there was the dragon. Charlie looked at the dragon and the dragon looked back at him. The dragon gave a roaring like sound and Charlie roared right back. This confused the dragon and he just stared at Charlie. Charlie took a step forward and raised his sword, ready to strike the dragon. The dragon bowed down and said "You have come to save us." Charlie dropped his sword and looked at the dragon curiously. The dragon told Charlie that it was he who was supposed to save the town and the rest of the dragons from the big bad Hungrian Horntail dragon."
Noah continued the dragon story with his voice raising and falling keeping the story going. He spoke of how Charlie teamed up with the dragon and they went around saving villages and finally Charlie got his chance to slay the mean Hungrian Horntail dragon.
Once the story was finished, Noah took a bite of his ice cream. "The story never gets old," he said with a smile.

Marcy listened to his story with rapt attention. It was easy to see why the children were so enthralled with him. He was a natural storyteller, with a lively way of telling the story.
When he was done, she began to clap enthusiastically. "That was amazing! You have a real talent for that... have you ever considered teaching? I've always thought someone should start up a school to teach children of wizarding families before they can start Hogwarts."

"Thank you, thank you," he said with a short bow of his head and a dramatic tone to his voice as Marcy clapped. Noah hadn't exactly shared his stories with many adults, only those of who stayed around and listened to his stories while their children were at the library.
"I have thought about that. I'm actually saving up money to do something. The whole idea of a school that children could go to before Hogwarts has interested me but I need to finish saving up a little more money first, then once I have a little more money, I'll have to go speak with people about having a school open up.

"I bet you're fantastic with the kids," Marcy continued. She had finished her ice cream and pushed the empty dish aside as she considered him thoughtfully.
"There really needs to be a place where the wizard children can go before Hogwarts... If there had been one when I was growing up, I would have been so much happier. It could be just a day school, like muggle children go to. If both parents want to work, or if it's just a single parent, they might not be able to hire a nanny , and they shouldn't have to. I think you'd be just the guy to do it... And I wouldn't mind helping you. After all, I can't just be a receptionist forever, right?"

"They seem to like me well enough," he said with a chuckle.
A smile etched its way across his face as Marcy spoke of the school. "Are you trying to talk me into letting you have a job once I find a way to get a day school opened?" Noah looked at her with a teasing look. "I'm sure that the school would be better ran if I did have another person to help me. I'm sure that the kids will love you too. Besides, I'm sure that we'd have a lot of fun helping the kids. You seem the type, especially after the agreement to help me draw."

Marcy couldn't help but burst out laughing. "Wow. We only just met and we're already talking about opening up a school together," she teased. "As much as I love the idea, we should probably slow down and take things one step at a time. We'll work on the pictures and the stories for the kids and see what happens from there."
Still, she was intrigued by the idea, and she definitely wanted to pursue it somehow, with or without him. It seemed like payback for the terrible things her mother had done.
"And anyway, you haven't seen my artwork. You might not like my style and decide to go in a different direction."
