In a way, Aurelia almost hoped that, if Dani had been taken by anyone, it was Pavel. At least she knew him, she understood him a little bit. And if he wanted Dani, he would be coming back for her as well. And she would not go quietly.
But if it wasn't Pavel, and Dani hadn't just run off somewhere.... well, that was the unthinkable. Some horrible stranger, a death eater, or someone with even worse motivations in mind... Aurelia couldn't allow herself to consider those possibilities. No, when it came down to it, Pavel was actually safer than a stranger.
"I can't... I can't just sit here," she said in an agitated tone. "I have to look for her. Please.... let me look for her."

"Aurelia," Henri started. He knew that looking for Dani could be dangerous, all sorts of things could happen. He didn't want Aurelia to be in any kind of danger but the thought of if it was Pavel who did it, then he would be looking for Aurelia too. Henri didn't want to drag Aurelia into this, but then again she was already involved. It was her daughter that was taken. He felt that he had to look out for Aurelia now because of the possiblity of the kidnapper. What if it was Pavel? What would he do if Aurelia came to him?
There were so many questions running through Henri's head. Any way he looked at it there were possiblities and he wanted to protect her and Dani. Henri let out a sigh.
"Only under one condition," he said looking to her, "you look with me. I can't let you go off and look alone."

Aurelia nodded desperately. Honestly, right now, if his condition had been that she had to sell her right kidney, she would have agreed without a second thought. She just knew that she could not just sit here and wait while other people looked for her little girl. She was grateful for any help they could get, but she had to be involved.
She wiped her face on her sleeve and looked over at Rita. "Please... can you stay here, in case she comes back? She'll feel safe if she sees you, and you... you can tell her I'll be b-back..."
It was really too much to hope that Dani was going to wander back, or that she'd crawl out of some hiding spot and apologize for worrying everyone. But she had to cling to some kind of hope.

Rita nodded, the look in her eyes somewhat desperate. She ached for Aurelia, ached fro Dani... and part of her ached for herself. What if they lost Dani? No, she couldn't let herself think like that. She couldn't let Aurelia think like that, either. Losing a child was the worst thing a mother could ever go through, and she refused to think that they wouldn't find Dani.
"I'll stay here. Maybe someone took her outside in all the confusion? You'll find her. I know you will."
She waited as the two left, and looked around. No one else seemed to even realize there was anything going on here. She sighed and penned a quick owl to her son, asking him to come to Ambrosia if he could, but not writing what had happened. That would make it too final.

Pavel waited for Trevor to leave and then turned back to his daughter. Pavel was not a man that though things through. He had now kidnapped his daughter. Great. Now all he could do was look at her pathetic little figure and think Now what the hell do I do? He knew Danica didn't do anything wrong, she was 100 percent her mother, though, and that could deem to be dangerous. She was his ticket to getting his wife back though. He sat in a chair and looked at the little girl for a moment. The tape on her mouth frusterated him. It kept her quiet, but it brought Pavel's memories to that of his childhood with his father, who would do similar things to keep him quiet. Pavel groaned and rolled his eyes. He was going to regret this. "I'll make you a deal." He finally said. "You keep your mouth shut, there's no point in screaming anyway there isn't anyone within a 100 miles of the place. And in return, I'll take the tape off." It was more for his benefit than hers. He couldn't deal with the flashbacks of his father. Dani's eyes narrowed at Pavel. She wouldn't scream, because that would just get her hit again. And it wasn't like she could go anywhere right now. That didn't stop her from trying to figure out how to get to the knot that held her in place. It was a simple spell that could undo it, actually, but her wand was long gone, lost in the alley somewhere. She sighed through her nose and nodded. What else was she going to do? Shake her head? She wasn't stupid. Her eyes stayed on him, though, big doe eyes watching him and preparing to... well, what? She was just worried that he was going to hit her again. And the room was so hot... why was it so warm?

"Maybe," Aurelia said, her voice faint. She gave a weak smile to Rita, silently thanking her for being here, then turned to Henri. "Let's go now," she said.
Merlin, she was already so tired. She ached deep down in her bones, and it scared her. If they didn't find Dani out there, she wasn't sure what she was going to do.... and yet somehow, she knew that she wasn't going to find her daughter outside.
As they stepped outside, Aurelia didn't care that the surrounding area was a muggle street. She lit up her wand and began looking around for any sign of her daughter. "Dani!" she called in a desperate voice.

Giving one last look to Rita, Henri started to lead Aurelia out in the street to see where they could begin. He had no idea where to even begin looking other than through whatever people were around. So far, Henri had nothing to go on other than the possibility that Pavel was a possible suspect but he didn't even know how the man would have really gotten there and gotten out so fast had it not been for a wizard. If there was a wizard involved then things were going to take a little while and Henri could only pray that they could find Dani.
Seeing that Aurelia had her wand out in the middle of a muggle street, Henri wasn't sure what to say. He knew that there would be muggles around looking if she continued to call Dani's name. "Aurelia," he spoke gently. "We can't use that," he said referring to her wand. "The MLE will bring flashlights with them and then we will look that way if we have to use light, the lights on the street will work for now."
He hated to tell her that, but he knew he couldn't risk the muggles seeing magic, even if they were searching for her daughter. Henri started looking around, continuing to think of the what ifs. He joined in calling for Dani, even though a part of him knew that calling for her wouldn't bring her to them.

Pavel narrowed his eyes at Danica. Why did he and Aurelia have to have a child? They cause so much trouble. He took the edge of the tape and, smiling sinisterly, ripped it off her mouth so forcefully, the chair almost knocked over. He could hear the pain it caused her and he smiled to himself.
"No little magic tricks can save you now," Pavel said. "All you have to hope for is your retched mother, who will put the pieced together and come and save you anytime now, and when she does..." well, he wasn't about to reveal the whole plan to the eleven year old child. So he simply smirked again and dropped the piece of tape to the floor. Then he moved to the desk on the other side of the room where a box of pizza laid from earlier that day. He ate it cold, annoyed that he didn't have a way to heat it up, but was glad to satisfy his hunger.

Aurelia honestly didn't care whether any muggles saw her with her wand. Her hands were shaking badly, and she could hardly see for the tears in her eyes, so it frustrated her that she would have to put away her wand. What if Dani had dropped something and Aurelia missed it? She didn't want to wait for the MLE... she needed to find Dani now.
But she nodded tearfully and slipped her wand back in her pocket. "Dani!" she called again, her voice shaking. "It's Mommy, sweetheart, you can come out now!"
She walked slowly, scanning the ground as she made her way over to the narrow alleyway that ran along the side of Ambrosia. To muggles, Ambrosia would look like an abandoned, derelict building from the outside, and only a witch or wizard could enter the building with a spell that would create the illusion of someone passing in front of it. They alleyway, then, was particularly derelict, and often a hideout for shady characters. She hoped Dani wasn't down there, but it was worth a look. And better than the alternative.
She stepped into the alley, and a black cat ran out from behind a dumpster. Aurelia jumped back in surprise and almost slipped on something as she did. When the cat had gone, Aurelia glanced down to see what she had slipped on. It was a long piece of rounded wood, rather like a--
A wand.
For the second time that night, Aurelia screamed.

Looking around on his own, Henri didn't stray to far from Aurelia. He felt like he had to keep an eye on her. What if it really was Pavel and he had a wizard friend that was looking for her too? Henri couldn't forgive himself if anything happened to her while he was there, the same went for Dani.
There wasn't any luck at the moment. There were no hints as to where they went. In all honesty they could be anywhere. Henri wasn't exactly sure how to really go about it at the moment but they were looking for anything. Hearing Aurelia's scream, he quickly moved in her direction. "Aurelia," he said worriedly as he moved toward her.
Henri stopped as he reached her side and looked down to the ground to see what she was looking at. It was a wand and he felt small bumps raise on his skin. He bent down to look at it closer, but didn't touch it. He wasn't sure if the MLE was going to need it for anything. "Dani's wand," Henri asked looking up to Aurelia.

Aurelia flung her arms around Henri, burying her face in his shoulder. Dani was gone, she was in danger. There was no telling where she could be, but something bad had happened. That was definitely Dani's wand, and she would not have abandoned it. Even if she dropped it in the confusion, she would have gone back for it. Something had to have happened, and right now, Aurelia's mind was spinning in a dozen different, horrible directions.
"I failed her, I should have known she was here, I should have been there...." Aurelia babbled through her tears. Of course it wasn't her fault, but anytime a woman's child was in danger, she couldn't help but feel responsible. It was her job to protect her daughter, and she had failed.

Henri tried to comfort Aurelia. Soothingly he rubbed her back and whispered "Shh," in her ear very softly. "It's not your fault Aurelia," he said confidently. "You didn't know that she was coming to visit." Even though he told her that, those what if thoughts ran through his head again.
"We're going to find her, wherever she is. We're going to bring Dani back and this whole thing will just be a bad memory." He wasn't sure if that was really assuring her or not but Henri did mean it.
Henri pulled back from Aurelia. "Look at me," he told her softly. "I promise you she will be found and you both will be safe."

Sean was alone on this call. Dan was out, though he wasn't sure if he was working or doing something social. Either way, Sean was the only one on call. When the situation was briefly explained to him, he sighed. Maybe it was best that he was the one going on this... maybe he'd get lucky and see something that would help. But damn it, why did he always get the calls for kids?
He arrived quickly, well equipped for a muggle territory. He was even in a muggle uniform, in case questions were asked, and he had a flashlight, just like Henri said he would.
They were easy to find, really. He knew Henri was the one that put in the call, and working so closely with the Auror Department, he knew him right off the bat.
But there was a woman with him- she must be the mother of the missing child. He would have to approach this delicately.
Approaching them, he nodded at Henri, then put a hand on Aurelia's shoulder. "Ma'am... I'm Sean. I'm here to help."

Aurelia was a wreck at this point. Nothing Henri could say made her feel any better. The only thing that would make her feel better was having Dani back in her arms. How was she supposed to think of anything else?
A new voice distracted her and she turned to look at the MLE officer through teary eyes. Any other time she would have noticed that he had a kind face, with warm and compassionate eyes. But right now all that mattered was his words. "Please... it's my d-daughter. Danica. She... she came to see me and now she's gone... she left her cloak and her wand behind... I think s-someone t-took her..."
She was still clutching Dani's cloak, and the wand was still on the ground in front of them.

I know you will." She waited as the two left, and looked around. No one else seemed to even realize there was anything going on here. She sighed and penned a quick owl to her son, asking him to come to Ambrosia if he could, but not writing what had happened. That would make it too final. Kieran had actually had one of his better days. After seeing Aurelia and Henri at lunch, he'd had a couple of emergency patients that he had been able to help. One was a little girl who had been gored by a hippogriff, and the other was a little boy who had fallen after taking his older brother's broom for a joyride. They had both been pretty badly injured, and, as Galen had pointed out to him, if they had been taken to a muggle hospital, the results might have been very different. The girl probably would have died and the boy would have had to undergo a risky surgery to repair a broken blood vessel in his brain and another to repair his spine and might have wound up paralyzed. But the procedures to save both children magically were fair simple, and both were recovering quite nicely. So Kieran was actually feeling pretty good about himself when he came home that night. He ordered a pizzar, and didn't even pour a glass of firewhiskey as soon as he got home. Maybe he was finally starting to turn a corner. But then the owl from his mother came. He had no idea what to expect when he left. He apparated directly into Ambrosia in the staff area, and walked around until he found his mother. It was obvious, as he walked around, that something strange had happened tonight, and he was already starting to panic when he got to his mother. "Hey, mum," he said, frowning. "What's going on?"

Rita felt helpless... probably not as helpless as Aurelia was feeling right now, but she knew what it was like to lose a child. She didn't know how to help Aurelia, though, not any better than Henri or the MLE.
At some point, she'd finally just leaned against the bar and shut everything out. She had to stay out there in case Dani came in, or she would have gone in the back. But even she knew... Dani wasn't going to come walking in.
When Kieran arrived, it took a minute for her eyes to even move to him, and maybe a moment longer for her to register that he was there. When she did, she let out a long sigh and pulled him into her arms.
"Dani's missing," she whispered.

One look at her face had sent his heart plummeting into his stomach. Something was wrong, very wrong, and when she pulled him into his arms, he instinctively clung to her, bracing himself for what he knew was going to be bad news.
But it still didn't prepare him for the news she gave him. It still hit him with the force of a speeding Knight Bus. No, he couldn't lose her, too.... "Dani?" he repeated faintly. "How.... what happened?"
Suddenly he wanted a drink very badly.

Rita shook her head, pulling back finally. She felt the same way Kieran did... they couldn't lose her, too.
"I don't know. We didn't even know she was here. Then something happened and there was some chaos, and Aurelia found Dani's cloak." She, of course, didn't know about the wand outside.
"She likes you. I just thought... if you were here, maybe she'd come back." It wasn't entirely clear whether RIta was talking about Chelsea or Dani here, but neither one of them was going to come wandering in through the door. "I'm supposed to stay in case she comes in, but I don't... I have to do something."
Then, she shook her head, clearing her thoughts and explained, "Aurelia thinks Pavel- her husband- took her. But that's not possible."

Kieran pulled a chair up from a nearby table and sank down into it, burying his face in his hands. He was, unfortunately, already thinking of so many things that could have happened to Dani, and the thought of her hurt or injured or being held by some terrible person... he couldn't stand it. His hands began to shake wildly, and he found that he couldn't look at his mother.
"Anything could have happened, Mum," he said, his voice heavy with dread. "She could be.... anywhere. You know as well as I do, she would not run off and scare her mother like this... She didn't just leave on her own free will."

"I know that," RIta nearly snapped, and her face softened immidiately, giving Kieran an apologetic look. Snapping wouldn't help anything. It just wasn't what Rita wanted to hear.
"I just keep hoping that someone took her to keep her safe, and that they're coming back now that things have calmed down. Kieran... the Dark Mark appeared in here. And if that means Death Eaters... what would they want with Dani? It's not possible."
She had to believe that Dani was coming back.
Finally, she sank into a chair near Kieran. "She must be so scared right now."
