Finally, Daphne was finished with all the work she had to do, including her own. She wasn't quite sure why she continued to do another people's work. It wasn't like she was getting in return for it. Maybe she should have started to charge people for doing their work. Daphne could have made a lot of money off of people if she did it, but she lacked the courage to say anything.
She quickly left library and dropped her things off in the common room before making her way outside. Daphne moved pretty fast, in hoping no one would stop her to ask for a 'favor'. When she stepped out into the sunlight, she slowed down. The fresh air felt amazing compared to being in the library all day.
As she walked, her mind drifted to all sorts of things. Daphne's cheeks pinked whenever she remembered the boy she met in the library. She still thought it odd that he wanted to know her, rather than get her to do his work for him. However, Daphne wasn't about to complain about that. It was just new to her, but it wasn't a bad thing.
Taking a seat in the green grass, she let out an audible sigh. It felt strange, yet wonderful to not have anything to do. Daphne tried to keep her mind off of school while she sang Paint It Black by the Rolling Stones in her head.

It didn't really bother Brenda that she didn't have a lot of female friends. Other girls were tedious and tiresome, always whining about something or other, usually boys. Obviously they hadn't yet figured out that boys were just playthings and you should never give them more power over you that you have over them. Brenda, however, could write a book on the subject, if she could be bothered. Maybe she'd just have some annoying girl do it for her.
Like Daphne, for example. She was one of those weak-willed girls who was so desperate for attention and so eager to please that Brenda had no trouble manipulating her to get her to do what she wanted. It was so easy it was almost boring. She wouldn't even bother if it wasn't for the fact that she really did need someone to do her homework for her. Merlin knew she wasn't going to bother. Homework was an annoying drain of her time, time that could be better spent doing something--or someone else.
She had an important assignment due tomorrow, and Daphne was supposedly busy working on it for her. But she was going to need it soon, if she was going to re-copy it in her own writing before she had to meet Collin for their date. She hadn't yet officially broken things off with Cameron yet, but that was no matter.
After looking everywhere for Daphne, she was surprised to find the lazy girl sitting by the lake, doing nothing. Surely she didn't have spare time.... maybe Brenda would have to find more work for her to do.
"Oi!" she called, approaching the girl. "Daphne, where's my potions paper! I hope you've finished it and you're not just wasting time."

The song in her head came to an abrupt stop and she opened her eyes. Daphne hadn't really expected anyone to find her outside, that was the whole point of her going out. Of course, she knew that her relaxation and quite time wouldn't last anymore than five minutes. That was far too much to hope for.
She wanted to roll her eyes as Brenda came up, but Daphne sat up straight and faced the blond girl. "I-I finished it already," she said quickly. "I didn't think we were going to meet this early, so I left it in my bag that's now in my room." She didn't know that Brenda had some date, so she didn't bring her bag with her because she thought that they were just going to end up meeting later like they usually did.
Daphne didn't feel like she was being nice to be noticed. That wasn't why she did it. She was just shy and people intimidated her, especially Brenda. Daphne was far too nice and 'no' wasn't really in her vocabulary. She just didn't want to step on anyone's toes. After all, she wanted to make it through Hogwarts in one piece.

Brenda smiled insincerely. Although she found Daphne to be a pathetic excuse for a witch and she often called her cruel names behind her back, she tried to be nice to Daphne's face... at least sometimes. Every so often, you had to toss a bit of cheese to the mouse, if you wanted to keep it coming back for more abuse.
"Oh, good," she replied sweetly. "I knew I could count on you. It's just... I need it soon. I have a date tonight, and I need to have enough time to copy it over in my own handwriting. And you didn't use too many big words this time, did you? Cause that's just not believable."

She wouldn't doubt if people talked about her behind her back but Daphne wasn't going to really let that bother her. Daphne just wished that she had enough courage to just tell people what she thought rather than mutter it after they left.
"No, there are no big words in it. Just simple ones, promise." If it wasn't for Daphne, Brenda would probably be failing her classes. Daphne wished that she had the courage to hold that over the blond's head but that would be mean of her. "I looked over it a couple of times and it's a decent paper, just like the other ones I've done."

It was true; Daphne was probably the only reason Brenda was passing most of her classes. It was just a shame that she couldn't get the Hufflepuff to take her tests for her. There were a couple of classes where the teacher didn't pay a lot of attention and she could copy off of Daphne's test, but for the rest, she had to resort to other methods of cheating. Of course, the idea of actually doing the work herself was simply out of the question.
"I'm sure it is," Brenda said, suppressing the urge to roll her eyes. "Oh, and by the way, I meant to tell you about the Defense Against the Dark Arts paper that's due next week. Some rubbish about counter curses. I'd really appreciate your help...."

As for cheating on tests, Daphne never really planned for Brenda to cheat off of her but then again she wouldn't doubt it. She wouldn't ever tell on Brenda, however. That would not end well for her, that was for sure.
"Right, counter curses," she said with a sigh. "I'll work on it this weekend, no problem." Daphne put on a light smile. If anyone looked close enough they could tell that it was forced. "You'll have it by Sunday evening." Writing Brenda's DADA paper would just add on to what she already needed to do but there had never really been a problem before. Some how Daphne managed to do all of her own work, as well as whoever else asked her, spend a little time with Heather, and sleep.
"Is there anything else? If not I might have your paper done before Sunday."

Brenda smiled, although most people would have described it as a smirk. "Oh, perfect. Thanks so much... You're such a good friend."
She almost wanted to laugh at this. For such a smart girl, Daphne really was an idiot for putting up with this. Not that Brenda was complaining. It worked out well for her, so she wasn't going to ruin that.
"There's nothing right now," she said. "But there's two more days left in the week, so who knows what might come up before then."

There was going to be that one day that Daphne finally blew up from being nice and holding it in, but today was not that day. Whenever that day came, it would be a day to remember.
She wouldn't doubt if Brenda found something else for her to do before the week was over. Daphne just nodded. Having a normal conversation with Brenda seemed a little odd, although Daphne tried. There was nothing wrong with trying, right?
"I'll get that paper to you before your date." She knew better than to just ask who Brenda was going on a date with. Plus, it wasn't any of her business.
"Well, you'll know where to find me if you need anything." Daphne looked out toward the lake. "So, everything been going good?" She could ask and try have a normal conversation even if it could earn her a strange look.

Brenda let out a sigh. Were they really going to do this? Sit here and chat like "friends?" Merlin, this was barely worth it. If it wasn't for the fact that she really did need Daphne to do her work for her, she really would have nothing to do with the girl. But whatever... She supposed it wouldn't hurt to play along for now. If it kept her happy. She glanced around, making sure no one would see her talking to Daphne.
"Yeah, it's OK, I guess. Whatever. You know, the usual. Boys and more boys. How about you? Any cute boys you've got your eye on?"

Daphne was not dumb enough to mention any guys she liked, if she liked any, in front of Brenda. Knowing her, she would probably go after them before she even had a chance. After all, she had seen that happen once before.
She sighed and shook her head. "No. I haven't really been looking," Daphne said. It was the truth. She hadn't really been looking around at any boys. "I've been a little too busy to have enough time to look." Again, that was the truth. She didn't really have time to really look around. It wouldn't surprise her if she never had time to look, even after school.
Daphne put on a smile. "Hope you have fun on your date tonight."

Yes, if Brenda knew that Daphne liked a boy, she probably would have gone after him, just because she knew she could. Of course, there was a danger of that happening no matter what, really. Just about any boy in fifth year and up was fair game, as far as she was concerned.
"Hmm," Brenda said. "I'm sure you could get a boy, if you wanted one. There are a couple of decent-looking Hufflepuffs, after all. If you wanted, I could always ask around. Maybe we could go on a double date. Oh... unless... You do like boys, right?"

Daphne raised an eyebrow at Brenda. "Yes I like boys," she said in an almost 'duh' tone. The only problem Daphne had was actually getting past the fact that they weren't just going to use her so that she would do their homework for them.
"You don't have to ask around for me," said Daphne almost blushing. "I don't have time for dating or anything like that at the moment. I have a lot of stuff that needs to be done, but thank you for the offer." She gave a smile. "Maybe I'll look sometime soon." That was probably going to end up being a lie. Daphne didn't have the confidence that Brenda had. There was no way that she could ever have that much confidence. The only thing that Daphne would more than likely do, would have been admire from afar.

Brenda certainly didn't Daphne to be distracted from the important job of doing Brenda's homework for her, so she was hardly going to encourage her to make time for a social life. Still, she couldn't resist an extra dig or two.
"Well, if you happen to see a guy that you're interested in, don't hesitate to ask me for help. Why, I bet if you lost a couple of pounds and maybe did something with your hair, you could get any guy you wanted."
She smirked a little at that. The girl's figure was actually fine. Sure, she was a little mousy, and in desperate need of some makeup, but she didn't need to lose any weight. But it would be fun to see her get insecure about it.

Sure enough, Daphne frowned. She looked down at her stomach. She was skinny enough, or at least she thought so. She didn't know any reason why she should lose weight, but still, it made her feel even more self conscience about herself.
The only thing she ever did with her hair was pull it back in a pony tail. Rarely did she ever have her hair down. Maybe she could wear her hair down, or maybe get it cut or something. Now that was going to bother her. She would probably mention something to Heather and see what she thought, or she would just keep it to herself and let it bother her.
She looked back up to Brenda and gave a shrug. "I doubt that," she said a little shyly, referring to getting any guy she wanted. Who wanted a shy and quiet girl? The most conversation they would probably get out of her would more than likely be something about school.
"That's more your thing."

Brenda tossed her long blonde hair over her shoulder. "True," she said. "But you're not that bad, you know. You're even moderately attractive, or at least you could be. Hey, what about that cute Hufflepuff boy... Gilderoy Lockhart! Why, I bet the two of you would make an adorable couple!"
She continued her fake smile, covering up the desire to laugh out loud. Most people--well, the people that counted, anyway--thought Lockhart was a laughingstock. He wasn't bad looking, but he was ridiculous, and everyone knew it. Suddenly, she thought the idea of pairing Daphne off with Lockhart seemed like an amusing new project.

At the mention of Gilderoy Lockhart, Daphne scrunched her nose. Was Brenda being serious? "Ew," was the sound that Daphne made in response. Gilderoy was not attractive, at least in Daphne's eyes. How could someone be so wrapped up in himself? It was quite ridiculous.
"Not Gilderoy," she said with a shake of her head. "He's just, no, not Gilderoy. He would date himself if that was possible." That was the first time Daphne had ever really talked somewhat bad about some one with Brenda present. She became quiet at the realization that what she said was sort of out of character for her to say, because she usually kept her opinions to herself.

Brenda could not contain her laughter at this. "Oh really?" she giggled. "Not Gilderoy, huh.... If I didn't know better, I'd say you were protesting just a little bit too much!"
Already she was making evil schemes of telling Gilderoy that Daphne liked him and then sitting back to watch the sparks fly. It would be fun, especially since Daphne so clearly disliked him. She'd be miserable. It was perfect.
"OK, OK, not Gilderoy. Well, maybe some time I could give you a makeover so you could maybe attract some attention from som cute guys, anyway..."

Once she gave Brenda another look that plainly said no, Daphne looked out toward the lake. She wasn't aware that she had given Brenda a 'no' look, but then again the girl probably wouldn't have even commented about it.
If Daphne had more courage than what she had, she would have just told Brenda that she needed to leave her alone and that she could find her own guy if she wanted. Of course, Daphne lacked that courage.
At the mention of a makeover, she looked back to Brenda. "A makeover?" She never thought about changing the way she looked, except maybe change her hair a little. Maybe a little make up wouldn't hurt. "Maybe," Daphne said with a shrug. "I suppose it wouldn't hurt."

Of course, a makeover by Brenda was probably not what Daphne would have hoped for. This was a girl, after all, who believed that hair should be big, makeup should be worn as much as possible, and fishnet was a fabric. She looked cheap, and she liked it that way. And she was already imagining Daphne in a similar getup.
"Yeah.... we'd need to tease your hair a little bit.... and I could teach you how to use eyeliner and lipliner... your features need more definition. And I see you in more of a dark red, not a bright red lipstick. And.... Hmmm. I might have an old outfit from my 5th year that might fit you. I just don't know if you can fill it out up top, if you know what I mean."
