[Bellatrix Black]

Bellatrix sat cross legged on the ground that bordered the lake. She was in a particularly dull area where the grass seemed to be depressed and grow slowly in certain patches throughout the dirt and pebbles. Bella's chin rested on her hand, which was propped up on her knee and she looked out over the black water to purpling sky. It was after dinner, and while most of the other students were up in the castle, chit chatting over the day's events and flirting with their significant others, Bella sat by herself gazing at the sunset.

[Severus Snape]

Severus was treking along the black lake, he liked the lake, even if had a dark name. he thought maybe it showed that Hogwarts wasn't so perfect, that it was all part of light and darkness, and it made it whole.

[Bellatrix Black]

Bella sighed out of boredom as she watched the large yellow-orange orb slowly disappear behind mountains and trees, leaving a dark purple-blue sky. She heard something moving a good distance away from her, and when she looked over she could make out the outline of a boy. It was growing darker by the second now, and he was too far away still be seen clearly.

[Severus Snape]

Severus didn't notice who it was as he approached the lake. he stepped over the last bit of long grass and stepped upon the patchy spots where a girl was sitting. "hello." he said slouching as he walked slower past to see who it was that was sitting all alone.

[Bellatrix Black]

"Wotcher," she replied in a dull tone as the form of Severus Snape crept upon her. She cocked her head to one side and raised an eyebrow at him. "Shouldn't you be up in the castle with all of your little first year friends?" She rested her cheek on her arms that were crossed over her knees. She could see him clearly now in the darkness; his lank hair and sallow skin. He was thin, far too thin for Bella's taste.

[Severus Snape]

"My little first year friends? I'll thank you to leave them out of any conversations we might have. I do like time without them." he said stepping over toward her and sitting before her. "Not spoiling your view am I? he asked tilting his head ever so slightly to the side.

[Bellatrix Black]

She lifted her head from its resting spot and huffed at the air. Like she would be having any future conversations with this puny depressive before her. "Actually," she drawled, "the sunset was rather unsettling for my tastes." She paused for just a brief second. "But I much prefer it to your ugly mug."

[Severus Snape]

"Oh wound me Queen of Sheba, don't doubt you'll be speaking to me again. We are in the same house and you're not out of Hogwarts yet." he said giving her a smug smile. "So why are you all alone?" he asked sitting down.

[Bellatrix Black]

"Yet," she emphasized coolly. She couldn't wait to be rid of this hell hole and out in the real world. She needed to be away from the nagging teachers who claimed she needed to find one specialty area and stick with it. She tried explaining that she would not need to work as she would marry rich and live off her husband. Some of the female professors turned their noses up at such a statement.

She looked at Severus, pondering over his own isolation. Why would he bother with knowing her reasons, he hadn't shared his own. "I dislike people and choose to separate myself from them."

[Severus Snape]

"Liar." he said simply. "I've seen you chat up plenty of boys." he got up and moved to sit besides her, but at a distance. "Unless that was all just talk." he said plopping down on a patch of grass.

[Bellatrix Black]

She giggled slightly at being called out. "Boys are a completely different matter all together. I don't socialize with them for the sake of socializing." She watched him move to her side, and sniggered at the distance he put between them, as if she would bite off his head at any moment.

[Severus Snape]

"Sorry Sheba, but I have to be cautious, Malfoy taught me not to trust my fellow housemates...especailly if they happen to be masters of deception, like yourself." he said gesturing toward Bella.

[Bellatrix Black]

"My my. I have to say I am flattered. You've looked in on me have you?" She curled her lips upwards into a half smile. Master of Deception...ha! How would he know such a thing! She'd not spoken more than two words at a time to him. "And I suppose you are forthcoming in all aspects of your life, Severus? You'd not be one to keep secrets I take it." She raised her eyebrows and bit her lower lip.

[Severus Snape]

"keep them? Of course, My mind is a fortress!" he said not really understanding what he was saying, but he wasn't going to let her know that. He was a very astute boy and he was going to keep what ever he knew to himself...unless it proved otherwise to set such information free.

[Bellatrix Black]

"A fortress?" She cackled, leaning her head back as she laughed at the puny first year. "Oh my dear Severus, nothing about you says 'fortress'. Picket fence perhaps, but no fortress." She couldn't possibly see how this pathetic excuse for wizard could think so highly of himself. He looked sickly and depressed with his greasy hair falling into his pale face. His robes, which were frayed and looked to be used, didn't quite fit him right. To sum it all up nicely, he was a wreck.

[Severus Snape]

Severus didn't bother to feel affronted. He said "I am. It doesn't matter much what you say." he was being brave, but that was Rori's influence working.

[Bellatrix Black]

She continued her laughter, perhaps a little more subdued than when it began. "You will learn, one day, that it does matter what I say. I have quite a lot of clout around here Severus Snape, and you would do well to keep me on your good side."

She moved about on the dirt, repositioning herself so that her knees were bent and her feet flat on the ground. She wrapped her arms around her legs, locking her fingers together over her shins. She laid her head on her knee, looking at the boy. Her posture contradicted her cruel tone, revealing to those who cared to notice that she was not as harsh as she appeared to be. At least, not at the moment.

[Severus Snape]

Severus smiled at her and said "We'll I don't believe I've gotten on your bad side...Of course should you want to lend me some clout I won't be so rude as to refuse." he said straightening up his slouch.

[Bellatrix Black]

She raised an eyebrow at him and silently grinned. She had nothing positive to share with him, though at the same time nothing negative either.

[Severus Snape]

"Ah Silence! that's never a good sign." he said leaning back a little. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a half eaten apple he had taken from dinner and hurled it into the lake, where it landed with a plunk. Herbert the squid stuck a few tenticals out of the water and then it dipped back into the black surface of the lake. "Well, If there's anything I like about Hogwarts...Feeding the lake monster is at least interesting." he said looking back at Bella.
