Roland sighed and shook his head. Being the guy who had always tried to keep his personal feelings to himself, it was really kind of embarrassing to realize that he had been so completely transparent at a time when he actually had something to hide. It truly seemed as if everyone there had known exactly what he was feeling, and that made him feel a lot more vulnerable than he was used to being. Even Blake had figured it out, and it was really a lucky thing that he hadn't decided to go after her first.
But of course, none of that mattered now. He was in love with Riley, and he no longer cared who knew it. For the first time he felt completely happy.
"Yeah... I was a real troublemaker when I was a kid. Riley apparently had her moments, too. I get the feeling this isn't going to be easy. I'm excited about it, but I'm still a little nervous."

"Yes, yes you were a real troublemaker when you were younger. I remember the some of the stuff you pulled. I was just lucky you didn't pull me in all the time." Hayden laughed. He had a feeling that Roland's child was probably going to be a huge handful but he knew that Roland and Riley would be able to handle it.
"Of course you're nervous, but you'll do great. That is for sure." He was always attempting to be optimistic. "I would say I know what you're going through, but I have no idea. That is more Cyrus' department."

Roland laughed and shook his head. "Yeah... can you imagine me going to Cyrus to ask for parenting advice? But I have a feeling I'll be doing just that. It's like everything's turned around. But in a good way."
Leaning his head back against the sofa, he sighed softly. "I should probably be getting back pretty soon, but I definitely want to set a date for our night out before I go. How's Wednesday looking for you?"

"Yeah, we don't want you being late for dinner or anything." Hayden sighed. "Plus, I have laundry to do. As for our date, should I break out the red or orange dress?" He wiggled his eyebrows teasingly before laughing. This was probably the most he had laughed and joked around with Roland.
"Wednesday sounds good to me. I haven't anything at all planned but if anything should come up for any reason, I'll let you know. I'll just meet you there Wednesday."

Roland rolled his eyes playfully, then burst out laughing. "Yeah, yeah, very funny," he replied. "We both know orange is not your color."
He laughed again, then gave him a strange look. "How come we never joked around like this before? Was I really that much of a stick in the mud?"
He frowned at the thought of it, realizing that he had always been too serious before. He had thought of Hayden as his best friend, but at least since he left school, they hardly did anything together, and they hardly laughed and joked around anymore. The last time they had really done something fun was when he'd gotten drunk and got his phoenix tattoo.

"So the red dress it is." He grinned.
"I don't think that you were really a stick in the mud," Hayden said seriously. "I just think that we never thought about cutting up that much. After school, we both went to be Aurors and we have taken the job seriously, in which we should. I guess we just took the idea of protecting our family pretty seriously or maybe it was something else, I don't know. Now, however, maybe we'll make up for lost time. After all, it seems the times are more relaxed now."

When he really thought about it, he had become a lot less fun after school ended. The crazy things he used to do had all sort of stopped, and he'd become so... responsible. Of course, he knew he would have to be even more responsible now, what with the baby coming. And he was OK with that; he was happy about being a father. But he hoped he would never really lose the sense of fun that he'd had back in school. He had lost it for a little while, but now that he had Riley and was happier than he'd ever been, he hoped he could get a little of that back.
"You know what we should do? We should get you a tattoo. It doesn't have to be like mine, but I definitely think you should get one. Girls love them."

"A tattoo?" His eyebrows rose slightly. "I've thought about getting one but I never decided on what I wanted." Hayden shrugged. The thought had crossed his mind several times before but he was never sure what kind of tattoo he wanted. Of course, he wanted it to mean something but he didn't know what.
"And I wouldn't get it just because girls love them." There was a teasing pointed look directed in Roland's direction. "Maybe we can do it real soon, after I finally think of something."

Roland laughed. "OK, fair enough. But no excuses. As soon as you come up with an idea, I'm taking you out to get one. And who knows? If I get you drunk enough on Wednesday, maybe you'll come up with a good idea. I never planned on getting mine until I did."
He got to his feet then and stretched a little. "So I should get going. But I'll definitely see you Wednesday. Oh, and I have to talk to Riley about this, but maybe we can have you over for dinner sometime soon. After all, we need to make sure you're eating."
He laughed at this, a silent joke about how everyone used to say the same sort of thing to him back when he was single.

As Roland got to his feet, so did Hayden. "Ha ha, you're extremely funny," he said rolling his eyes but gave a quite laugh. "But thanks for the offer of dinner sometime. I'll probably make it over there. I still have to make it over to mum's for dinner soon, since I promised her."
He walked with Roland to the door. "I'll see you Wednesday and hopefully I'll have an idea." Hayden grinned. "I'm glad that you came over Roland and don't be a stranger, alright?"

Roland laughed. "Hey, after all the times I heard that from the family, I think I'm entitled. You might even be worse than I am. So, yeah, stop by sometime and we'll see if we can feed you. Just... owl first, if you know what I mean."
He was still smiling as he walked to the door. "It really is good to be back. And even though I'll probably be busy with Riley most of the time, I'll still try to hang out with you a little more."
He gave Hayden a quick clap on the shoulder, then opened the door. "I'll see you Wednesday."

"Oh, you better believe that I'll owl first. I wouldn't want to ever interrupt anything." Hayden gave a slight shudder. "And of course you'll be busy with Riley most of the time. Although, I do feel special that you're going to try to make more time for me. Really, I'm touched." He put a hand over his heart and gave a fake sniffle.
Hayden laughed as Roland clapped his shoulder. "Yeah, Wednesday. See you then." He shook his head as Roland was leaving and closed the door after he left. Giving a small chuckle, Hayden started to work on his laundry.
