Roland laughed. "Well, at least I won't get that from my mum anymore. I've got Riley... Mum can stop nagging me about eating, and about finding myself a nice girl." He smirked at that. "I think that's an all-around win. I get Mum off my back about eating, and finding a girl, AND I get to have Riley."
He gave Hayden an appraising look. "You're next, you know."

"Exactly. If I start cooking on my own, I don't have to worry about it." Hayden didn't like the idea that his mother would fuss over him. He liked being in the background, however, there was just one small part of him that didn't really mind nagging from his mother.
He gave a quiet groan. "I don't know about that one," he said. "But for the first time, mum asked me about it. Well, she asked if I had found a nice lady friend whenever I went home to tell them about you being back. I told them that I had some news, and leave it to my mum to think that first." Hayden shook his head.

Roland laughed. "I'm telling you, you're in trouble, buddy. They're going to be bugging you to find a nice girl... and trust me when I tell you, it's totally worth it. I never would have believed it, but it's really amazing. I've turned into a complete sap and I don't even care."
Of course, Roland knew that Hayden would have to experience it all on his own before he'd really understand. He had been the same way, not that long ago. "By the way, I almost forgot... I wanted to thank you for helping Riley so much while I was... gone. It meant a lot to me to know that you were there looking out for her while I couldn't do it."

"I think it might be a little longer before anything like that happens." Hayden didn't really go out much so he figured it was going to be some time before he had any kind of relationship. Maybe he should go out more than he did but then again he usually felt awkward going out alone.
"Hey, don't mention it. You would have done the same thing." He gave a smile. It was just a natural thing. Hayden knew that Roland had cared about Riley and vice versa, so he did the only thing he could do.
"Do you think we could go out one night, for old times sake? I promise not to keep you out too late from your love."

"We'll see about that," Roland replied with a grin. "You see, it's when you least expect it that it happens. You can't hide from it, Hayden... The Ferreras are a family that loves fiercely. Mark my words, mate, your time is coming."
He wouldn't push the subject any further than that, and he knew better than to try and fix Hayden up with someone. Love was something his cousin would have to find for himself. Still, Roland was at the stage where he really wanted everyone in the world to experience what he was feeling. He wanted to spread the love around, because something this great shouldn't be kept to himself.
"Sure, we can go out... maybe next week. I just have to watch how much I drink... Riley doesn't like it when I drink." His expression was wry, but he was really serious about it. He was trying to make an effort to watch his drinking, even though Riley had never asked him to. It was just one of those things he had started to do for her.

"I'll make sure that you don't drink too much. We could go to Stu's." It was the first place Hayden thought of. He didn't really want to go to some club where everyone else seemed to go, plus he wasn't a big fan of dancing.
"And I'll also make sure that you're home at a decent hour," he said teasingly. Whenever they had gone out before, they never were out extremely late so that wouldn't really be a problem. Hayden thought it was actually really nice how Roland was trying to watch his drinking for Riley.

Roland wasn't quite sure how Riley would feel about him going to Stu's. He'd already gone to see Nathalia once, just to say hi, and he hadn't told Riley about it. He still worried a little about how she might react if she knew. Was it worse to go see Nathalia, or to do it and not tell her about it? These were the kinds of things he just wasn't used to worrying about.
Of course... if Hayden and Nathalia were to hit it off, maybe Riley wouldn't be so jealous...
Merlin. Now what was happening to him? Was he seriously thinking of playing matchmaker?
"We can go to Stu's, but we probably shouldn't tell Riley that's where we're going," he said at last. "She knows I slept with Nathalia and is kind of jealous of her..."

Something made Hayden feel slightly funny but he just pushed it away. "Well, we don't have to tell her where we're going exactly. If she mentions anything about knowing we're going there, I'll just tell her it was my idea. Don't worry about it, I've got you covered if she should ask about anything." He gave a confident smile, it was his idea after all and it wouldn't be a lie. "I can't have you getting into trouble with her."
He rested his head on the back of the couch lazily. "You pick the day you want to go, and I'll be there."

Roland grinned. "Thanks. I'm still new at this relationship thing, and I don't want to want to mess things up, you know? I mean, Nathalia and I are friends... I just don't expect Riley to understand the idea of me hanging out with a friend that I once slept with. As it is, I still get jealous when she visits Geoffrey, and I know they're just friends. I can't really blame her if she's uncomfortable with my friendship with Nathalia. But, anyway, they do have other bartenders... who's to say Nat will even be there that night?"

"Exactly, she might have the night off." Hayden smiled. He sort of hoped that she would be working. He liked talking to her last night when he stopped by there. "Everything will be alright, you won't get into trouble with her, promise."
He thought about how the old Roland used to be. He used to not worry about what people thought but now he cared about it. It was almost funny. The funeral seemed to symbolize the old Roland, then his 'rebirth' resulted in the one that was sitting on his couch. It was just like the tattoo that was on Roland's arm that Hayden remembered him getting.
"Plus, it'll just be us there. We're not going to be worried about who's working. We'll be more concerned about whatever we talk about."

Roland relaxed a little more. It felt good to be able to talk to his best friend about these things, and to know that he'd back him up, if necessary. He'd missed having that back at the safe house.
"I really missed you, do you know that?" he said abruptly. Before this whole experience, Roland probably never would have said something so open to Hayden, or almost anyone else. But thanks to Riley, it seemed easier to express his emotions.

"Are you going to hug me if I say yes?" Hayden wasn't usually the joking around kind but around Roland and Liam, he could felt like he could cut up just a little. "I'm only kidding." He smiled to reassure Roland he was.
"I really missed you too," he said his voice going serious. "I didn't have anyone to talk to since Liam is at school. Although, I did talk to someone last night which was really the first time I actually talked a lot since well, before. Now that your back, prepare to have your ear talked off." Of course, the last statement was an exaggeration.

Roland held up his hands. "Oh, hey, I wouldn't go that far," he joked. "Since I got back, it seems like almost everyone wants to hug me. And after what happened, I really have no choice but to let them. I'm just glad you didn't try." He shook his head and laughed lightly.
"Anyway... you know if you need to talk, I'm here for you. I kind of wish I had talked to you about what I was feeling for Riley sooner... I was... pretty messed up there for a while."

"It would have just been odd if I tried to hug you," Hayden said. "How would that have been? I open the door and see you standing there, only to just hug you." He raised his eyebrows. "That would have been awkward I think. Although if you still want a hug, I guess I could." The last part was spoken jokingly.
"I know and I appreciate it. You know I'm here if you need to talk too." Hayden let out a sigh. "Don't worry about that. You're together now so there it's alright. You're grinning, laughing, joking around, you haven't yelled at anyone for hugging you, and you're going to be a father. Personally, I think you're doing pretty good."

"That's what everyone else has been doing," Roland said, rolling his eyes. If he was honest with himself, he actually didn't mind it all that much anymore. Maybe it was just temporary, because he'd missed them all so much, but he didn't bother to question it. "But I'm just as glad you didn't."
He smiled and nodded. "Yeah.... I am doing pretty well. I can't quite believe how well, really. Sometimes I look at her and wonder just what she's doing with me."

"I think that you two are great together, like a puzzle that finally came together. Even at Christmas, I thought the puzzle was just about to finally be put together." Hayden smiled. He liked watching Roland and Riley together. It never failed to amuse him.
"It has been about time something else happy happened. Cyrus finally asking Lina to marry him, and now you and Riley together." The light smile remained on his face. "And whatever you do, don't ever doubt for one second that she shouldn't be yours. I know you probably don't now, but that's just my advice."

Roland smiled. "That's a nice way of putting it," he said. It described exactly how Roland felt; that he was finally complete now that he was with her.
"You know, at Christmas, I was so crazy in love with her I couldn't even see straight. It was killing me, because I didn't want to be. It seems stupid now that I think about it, and I must have been acting like such a git. I can't even remember why I was fighting it so hard."

"Because you are completely stubborn, just like the rest of the family," he answered simply. "You didn't want to see what was right in front of you when everyone else could. Then when someone tried to tell you, you became even more stubborn because you didn't want to believe them." The entire Ferrera was stubborn. They could admit it, but sometimes they would still let it get in their way. It blinded them to a lot of things. Stubbornness had to be one of the major weaknesses and strengths of the family.

Roland laughed and looked up at the ceiling. "Everyone really could see it, couldn't they? I thought I was hiding my feelings so well, but everyone knew I was in love with her, didn't they? Everyone but me."
The worst part, he knew, was that if anyone there had tried to tell him that, he would have refused to believe them. He hadn't been ready to admit it, even though, deep down, he had known it all along, at least since that night at her apartment.
"We are stubborn. And Riley's stubborn, too... I have a feeling our child is going to be a real handful."

"Yeah, everyone pretty much could see it," Hayden laughed in agreement. "When you may have thought you were hiding it well, it seemed to make it a little more obvious."
Hayden nodded. "I bet your child will be. At least we know that they'll have a good head on their shoulders after all, look at the parents." He smiled. "However I bet even though they're going to give you trouble, they'll be just like you."
