"Well, I'm no gourmet chef, that's for certain. I can make eggs, toast, and pancakes. That is the best I can make, other than macaroni and cheese. I'm trying to get better at it because I know my mum is constantly bug me if I can't have a decent meal." Hayden laughed. He didn't really eat that often or cook, considering he didn't really really have time except on the days he didn't work. Sometimes he would just get take out on his way home.
He took his mug from Nathalia and found the cream in the refrigerator. Once his coffee was fixed with the right about of sugar and cream, Hayden followed her into the living room, taking a seat on the couch. "Thanks for this, by the way."

"Hey, eggs, toast, and pancakes are more than I can make." She wondered if him mentioning breakfast foods was a subtle hint. If it was, she liked what it implied. Then again, she never stuck around long enough for a guy to make her breakfast.
"No need to thank me. The company's well worth the coffee, trust me." She felt like she should start really trying to flirt with Hayden. He was the shy type, but that was new to her as well, and so she kind of liked that, too.
"So, how are things at the office? Calmer now, I would imagine?"

Hayden laughed. “It’s a start and it’s been enough to keep my mum off my back for now anyway.” Again, he didn’t mean to really imply anything by it. He hadn’t been one to really give implications of staying the night or anything like that. Hayden never really had any girls during school, unlike his cousin. He was more reserved and shy. It wasn’t because he was scared to talk to girls, it was just who he was.
“That’s a question I don’t get asked.” He smiled and took a sip of coffee. “Things are a little calmer. I don’t think you could ever really describe the auror office as calm, however.” There was always something going on in the auror office.

"Moms are like that though, right? Always wanting to make sure you're taking care of yourself, since they can't do it for you anymore." She nodded around the apartment. "I think my mum's happy I'm living with her... I'm looking for my own place, but I just haven't been motivated to get one yet. I was thinking of leaving town again in a bit." Her smile grew as she shifted on the sofa to face him. "I haven't mentioned that to anyone but you, yet."
She stopped and listened to him talk about work, nodding along, though she didn't say anything in response to it. He probably didn't want to keep talking about work, and who could blame him? So she let it go.
"Things will return to normal eventually, you know."

"Leaving town in a bit? Where would you be going?" Hayden was interested in knowing, and he wouldn't mention that bit to anyone. After all, who would he really tell?
Sure, Hayden was mostly about working and that sort of thing, but he didn't really like talking about it that much. It was good to have some other conversation rather than talk about that since he was usually working all the time.
Hearing her words, Hayden looked over to her. "I don't really know about that. Things have changed and it won't go back to the sort of 'normal' it was before. It is going to take some getting used to but steps have to be taken first."

"I don't know yet," Nathalia replied, answering his question honestly as she turned ti face him a bit better. "Somewhere new that I haven't been to, yet. My dad's Italian, or so I've heard... maybe I'll spend a couple months bartending in Rome."
She listened to him talk about steps that had to be taken, and she frowned just slightly. "You know, one of those steps might be actually going to see Roland. I don't think you two can resolve anything until that happens. But that's just me... I'm definitely not trying to preach to you. You do what you need to do."

"There in lies the problem," Hayden said leaning back on her couch. "I wouldn't know how to react or what to say. I don't even know if I have fully comprehended that he is actually here." He leaned up to take a drink of coffee then sat it down on the table in front of them before leaning back again. It was hard to lose your best friend only to find out that they never left after a while of thinking they had gone. Hayden didn't know how to handle it. Usually he could just go in and do what he had to, but this time was different.
Roland wasn't really a topic that Hayden wanted to focus his thoughts on. The whole thing made Hayden mad at Roland but yet he knew he couldn't be angry with him or upset. He knew Roland wouldn't have done it if he hadn't had a good reason for it.
"Bartending in Rome sounds exciting," he said changing the topic. "I've been there twice. Once whenever I was younger and another time not to long ago for an assignment. It's quite nice there."

It wasn't Nathalia's place to give him advice or anything, but she didn't think Hayden was ever going properly adjust to the idea that Roland was back until he actually went to see him. Her place or not, she said this anyway. And then quickly added, "I'm sorry. I don't mean to tell you what to do or anything.... bartending habits, I'm just used to giving input. I have a big mouth," she laughed. "But don't worry. It will work out for you... and you'll find the right way to handle it."
She let conversation turn, understanding that he probably didn't want to linger on it. "I've never actually been. My mum has... of course. It's where she met my dad, but I just haven't ventured there yet. I'll have to make sure to ask you all of the best places to go."

He knew that it wouldn't really sink in until he saw Roland himself but Hayden couldn't bring himself to do it just yet. He wanted to attempt to wrap his head around the facts and attempt to figure it out what clues he missed. Of course there was clues that stood out like a sore thumb but he just needed to wrap his mind around it first.
"I probably couldn't tell you many places to go. The most recent time I was there was for business. When I went with my family, I was pretty young. We just went sightseeing and then we went to one resturant which was my dad's favorite." Hayden gave a shrug. "But it's a beautiful place no matter what you have to go there for. Hopefully I'll be able to go back for some kind of vacation." He knew that he probably wouldn't take any kind of vacation, not now anyway. "I'm sure that you're going to have a great time there. There are a lot of interesting people there."

Nathalia's head quirked to the side as she listened to him talk. Her mind was wandering, to be honest. he was easing into conversation so fluidly that she almost didn't know what he was doing here. She thought she had been pretty clear when she invited him up, and he accepted that invitation.
Sure, talking about family and Italy and all of that was nice, but only delaying the real reason they were here, and she sighed softly.
"Hayden," she said, her voice soft when he was done. Never the one to be shy, she said, "Why did you come up with me tonight?"

The subject changed pretty quickly and he raised his eyebrows. Why did he really come up with her? Hayden, never one to show any awkwardness, looked away from Nathalia. He didn't exactly catch her meaning nor did he think that she really wanted something from him. Of course, had the current events not have happened, he would have picked up on it because his thoughts would have been more clear. However, of course had the current events not have happened, he probably wouldn't be sitting here with Nathalia anyway.
"You invited me up," he answered honestly. "I needed someone to talk to and you were willing."

"You said yes."
She invited him up, and he agreed. Clearly, that was code. Just like, "Do you want a cup of coffee," which she also already said to him. Was she missing something here?
"Hayden," she said, dragging his name out slowly on her tongue, unsure how to really approach this. She wasn't used to the shy types, but she could be bold and take initiative. She though that was what Hayden wanted her to do.
She set her cup down, shifting on the couch so that she was closer to him. "I'm willing to do a lot for you, Hayden."

Once Nathalia drew out his name, Hayden was slowly starting to pick up on what her meaning was. His intentions had been completely innocent. Things had been confusing and actually being with someone, even for one night, never crossed his mind. He had only wanted to have someone to talk to. Liam was at school so Hayden couldn't really go talk to him about Roland, and then he couldn't really go talk to Roland about Roland, so there was only Nathalia. She seemed like a good option but now Hayden was realizing that she thought that he wanted more.
His eyes widened just slightly for a split second. "Nathalia," he started as she moved closer to him. Hayden didn't move from where he was sitting with the exception that he sat up so he was sitting up straight. "I appreciate that, and I appreciate you being there to talk with me." He wasn't sure how to really go about this, after all he didn't want to hurt her.

"But you came up for coffee. You came home with me... surely you're interested in more than conversation."
She could do this. Hayden was just... really shy, right? He seemed the shy type anyway, not much of a talker. Definitely not the really assertive type. That was okay, she could be.
She moved so that she was practically straddling his lap, facing him. Her eyes were on his, and she couldn't even begin to explain why her heart was beating the way it was. She leaned down to kiss him.

Nathalia's words weren't making any sense at first but then it all hit him when she ended her sentence. Hayden's eyes widened a little. He never had anything like this in mind. He only wanted someone to talk to, the other thoughts never cross his mind. He only walked her home because it was the gentleman thing to do and he wanted to talk with her a little more.
Of course, he wasn't able to get that out. Before he could say a word, Nathalia was pretty much in his lap and she was kissing him. He was a little confused to say the least. Her lips were soft and warm on his. Hayden knew that he needed to stop whatever was going on before it went any further. This wasn't what he came here for.
Gently, Hayden pulled away from Nathalia. "Nathalia," he breathed almost inaudibly. He had to get his thoughts about him. He didn't want to hurt her. "What, what was that for," were the only words that could formulate from his mouth.

The way he whispered her name gave her chills. She didn't like it. Or maybe she did like it, too much, and it scared her. Or something like that. Whatever.
She gave him a soft smile. "It was for you." How else was she supposed to answer that question? he pulled away, and it was clear that he wasn't expecting her to have kissed him or made any sort of advance.
She faltered. Did that mean he wasn't looking for any? She didn't understand. Why else would he have come up? But he wasn't saying no to her, either.
"There's more what that came from, too, Hayden."

For him? Things were slowly being put together. Nathalia thought that he wanted more than what he really came up for. He didn't really mean for her to think that, but the more he thought about it, the more he saw how he could have accidently gave hints.
"Nathalia," he repeated in another whisper like tone. Hayden was trying to think of the best way to put it. He wasn't ever in situations like this and he didn't know what to really do. "I didn't mean for this," Hayden started, "I didn't mean for this to happen like this." There was a confused tone to his voice.

She still wasn't getting it. He was being painfully shy, sure, but he seemed the type. And maybe she knew, deep down, that he was telling her to stop, but no one ever said no to Nathalia. She was choosing to ignore this.
"It's okay," she told him. "I understand." Of course, she didn't really. She thought he was apologizing for coming up, for what was about to happen. Not what was happening. He was still whispering, too. That was a good sign. "We can go slow," she said.
It wasn't that she was dense. Not at all. She was practically the queen of understanding subtlety, but she couldn't bring herself to admit that Hayden didn't want her. That he wasn't interested.

His mind was everywhere but the place where Nathalia's mind was. Things were so mixed up that he barely started to sort things out. Once the meeting with Roland happened, that would be when everything would fall into place.
The more Nathalia said, the more Hayden knew exactly where this was going. He didn't know what she understood but he knew that they weren't on exactly the same wave length.
"Nathalia," he repeated her name for a third time. This time it wasn't in such a whisper but his voice was still soft, he didn't want to hurt her. "I don't think I'm ready for something like this." There were the words he thought might cause some harm. Hayden did not want to see her upset. He liked her well enough but sleeping with her was not an option he had in mind.

Nathalia pushed away from him a little, confused to say the least. "I don't... Sorry?"
He came up to her apartment. And now he didn't want her? "Did I do something wrong?" To her, it seemed clear that somewhere in the last twenty minutes or so, she had done something to make him change his mind about her, and she didn't really know how to handle that. No one told her no. She was tall and blonde and fun and who said no to that?
