Roland listened to all this quietly. Privately, he couldn't understand the situation. Why would Molly break things off with Arthur if he hadn't done anything wrong? It didn't make sense to him. Just because Ted and Andromeda had split, how did that affect her relationship with Arthur? Was she afraid the same thing would happen to her? Or was it some kind of weird female solidarity thing? Roland didn't get it.
"I'm sure you'll do fine," Roland said supportively.

A party was really the last thing Masika wanted to attend, especially tonight. It would have been a great night for a bath and some candles... one of the things she indulged in that truly relaxed her sometimes. But it was a social thing, and she needed to keep appearances. She could always down a little alcohol to make it less painful.
When she arrived, she scoped out the Aurors already there, her eyes landing briefly on Roland Ferrera. There was a lot of talk about him on the other side. He was an enemy of Blake Malfoy, who had mysteriously died around the same time Roland was resurrected from the dead. Still... the guy's alibi was airtight.
She frowned and continued scanning the room, seeing no one she really wanted to speak with. Might as well start to the left and go clockwise.
"Ted and Andromeda," she said, coming up next to Andromeda and flashing a smile at the new Irish Auror. "I still haven't congratulated you on your recent... union."

Andi turned from her conversation with Kevin to face Masika with a friendly smile. She didn't know what to make of the woman. She seemed nice enough, she supposed, but Andi never knew quite what to say to the woman. Maybe it was time to change that.
"Thank you," she said. "You're Masika, right? Please, call me Andi. Everyone does."

You guys are pretty much the only couple cuter than Ted and Andi--although, don't tell them I said that." It really was amazing to look at the two of them together. They had been through a lot in a very short time. They'd gone from from daily arguments, to a tortured, unrequited love on Roland's part, to his death and ressurrection... and now, here they were, holding hands and looking like they really wished Arthur would go away so they could start snogging. How many other couples could tell a story like that?

Just because she was the "boss" didn't mean Angelique couldn't kick back and have a little fun with her employees once in a while. Even though there was still a lot of pressure on the department right now, there were some reasons to celebrate as well. Ted and Andromeda were married, Roland was alive, and a number of new aurors had joined their ranks. The party had been suggested by Ted, and Angelique agreed that it was a good idea. After all, she needed to build solidarity in the department, and this would be the perfect opportunity to start building it.
So she got dressed up, forgoing the robes in favor of a little black dress and a really cute pair of shoes, and went back to the office for the party. As she stepped into the office, her eyes came to rest on Roland and Riley, who were talking with Arthur. They looked good, holding hands and smiling. She should still be mad at them for the stunt they pulled, but she just couldn't. Their happiness was contagious.
Walking over to them, she perched one hand on her hip. "Glad to see you two can still remember how to find the place," she teased.

She wasn't exactly close to any of the Aurors, but like Andi, she thought she should change that. The closer she was to them, the more she could learn from them to take back to the Death Eaters. If only they knew. "I just arrived. Have I missed anything yet?"

Riley smiled a little sheepishly as Angelique joined them.
"Says the woman whose keeping us on suspension," she teased back, but it was really no secret that she was itching to come back to work. There was a murder case that still wasn't tied up, after all. And she loved the time with Roland, but neither one of them were really the type who could stand doing nothing for so long.
"You look very nice, by the way," she added.

Angelique raised her eyebrows at Riley. She was looking much better; there was color in her cheeks and no dark circles under her eyes. She privately thought that the time off ws good for Riley, although Roland probably had a lot to do with it as well.
"Compliments will get you everywhere," Angelique teased. "No, really, keep 'em coming. You just might convince me to lift your suspension soon."

"The party's just getting started, really." Her eyes drifted over to Roland. "They just got here... They're sort of the unofficial guests of honor. It's really an incredible story... How often does someone rise up from the dead like that, you know?"

Veronica was not one to arrive with much fanfare. She didn't have her sister's ego, and barely even noticed when men's eyes followed her as she walked by. Rather, she carried herself with an easy confidence that came from within, and was utterly unconcerned about the thoughts and opinions of those around her. Likewise, she also didn't feel the need to make a grand entrance or to have all eyes on her. Instead, she arrived at the party almost unnoticed, slipping in quietly and going straight to the drink table. She spotted Ted and Andi talking with Masika and Kevin, while Roland and Riley were hand in hand as they talked to Arthur and Angelique.
Was it just her imagination, or did everyone seem to be pairing off?

Not quite as beautiful as Riley, though. And I'm not just saying that because I'm biased... I'm saying it because I don't want her to get mad at me. I'm sure you all don't want to go back to the days when Riley and I spent most of the day arguing with each other..."

Like Veronica, he noticed that everyone seemed to be pairing off, and it broke his heart a little. He missed her so much sometimes. Sighing, he turned back to the small group he was a part of. "I wonder when they'll be back in to work?"

“Is it any wonder?” Andromeda said, glancing over at Roland and Riley. “I mean, it’s not every day that someone comes back from the dead, you know? That really must have been one amazing reunion between them…. It’s almost as if he never left and they’d been together all this time. They look so happy together.”
She leaned up and gave her husband a quick kiss on the lips. “Almost as happy as you and I,” she said.
She still wondered how Roland and Riley had managed to get so close so quickly. She remembered rumors of Roland being unusually happy on the day he “died,” and she guessed something must have happened around them. Still, as she looked at the two of them, she could sense an intimacy that only came with time.
“Come on, let’s go over and say hi,” she said, giving Ted’s hand a quick tug.

Ted rolled his eyes when she tugged his hand, and gave Kevin and Masika a little smile and a shrug. The eye roll was feigned, and he actually wanted to see how Riley was doing, anyway. He still felt invested in her, even though Roland was back. He considered her a friend now, and maybe he could even call Roland a friend.
He squeezed Andromeda's hand, coming up next to her when they reached the couple of the hour, and then put his arm around her.
"You two look significantly better than the last time I saw you," he mentioned good naturedly, referencing the night Roland made his triumphant return.

Angelique rolled her eyes at Roland's comment. "I don't know," she said. "I haven't decided whether I like you two fighting or sappy and romantic. On the one hand, I don't have to referree your arguments anymore, and that's a plus... but on the other hand, I get the highly uncomfortable feeling that you two are going to be sneaking off to the nearest broom closet for a quickie."
She made a face at this, but there was still a playful sparkle in her eyes. As Ted and Andi approached, she smiled at them and shook her head. "Between the four of you, I'm beginning to feel like the whole Ministry is pairing off, except for me!"
At this comment, a thought flitted through her mind and she found herself wondering how Gabriel was doing....

Roland laughed and raised his eyebrows at Angelique's suggestion, but he didn't make any further comment about it. Yes, the idea most certainly had occurred to him, but as far as he was concerned, that would be between him and Riley, and he was not going to discuss it. Although it was obvious just how crazy they were about each other, when it came to sex, that was something he simply was not going to talk about with anyone else.
Luckily, Ted and Andi arrived, making it easier to change the subject. "Yes, I imagine I was not looking my best that night, covered in blood," he agreed readily. "I'm sorry I gave you a hard time about going to the hospital that night. I just... I hate hospitals, and prefer to avoid them at all costs. Thanks again for all your help."
It seemed inadequate to Roland. After all, Ted had managed to save Riley's life, and he had risked his own serveral times to help her. Roland would forever be grateful for that, and latyer he was going to have to pull Ted aside and express his gratitude for helping Riley the way he had.

Riley blushed a deep crimson at Angelique's words, and her eyes dropped, even away from Roland's. So what if she'd thought about the possibility of it? Now that she knew Angelique would wonder everytime they disappeared, it was pretty much garaunteed that they would not be sneaking off to the broom closet at all.
Her smile returned, however, when Ted and Andromeda came up, and she didn't give Ted much of a chance to respond to Roland. As soon as he said his part, she pulled away and hugged him. "Thank you," she said quietly, before pulling away. She turned her attention on Andromeda, glad for the distraction from Angelique now. "You look wonderful tonight, Andromeda. How are you?"

"Not everyone's pairing off," Ted was quick to assure Angelique. He knew how women could be about those kinds of things. Before he could say more, however, Roland was thanking him, and Riley was thanking him.
He laughed and returned her hug. "Stop thanking me. I didn't do anything," he teased them both. Really, he hadn't. Why weren't they continually fawning over Hayden? He knew, had Hayden been in his position that day, he would have pulled Riley out of the way as well.
"Seriously, though, you both look much better. I'm glad. Are you coming back to work yet?"

It wasn't necessarily that they were singling Ted out. Roland was equally grateful to Hayden, but Hayden was family, so it was understandable that he had gone out of his way to help them and to save Riley. They barely knew Ted, and still he had gone above and beyond the call of duty to help them. For this, Roland would always be grateful to him. Besides, Hayden, not being the partying type, had not shown up at the party.
"We're doing great," Roland replied with a smile. "As for returning to work, I'm ready now, but it all depends on the boss here..."
He turned and gave Angelique a playful, yet pointed look, before turning back to Ted and Andromeda. "Hello, Andromeda," he greeted her. "I don't believe I've had the chance to congratulate you both on your marriage."

Andi smiled, first at Riley, and then at Roland. She had always thought of Roland as being an intense, intimidating sort of person, but seeing him now, she wondered how she could have ever been intimidated. He was perfectly friendly and charming, and very obviously in love with Riley. It was really kind of beautiful.
"Thank you, both of you," she said, leaning her head against Ted's shoulder. "I'm doing very well. And I'm glad to see that you're both doing well, too. You make a wonderful couple. Riley, we should get together sometime soon... I hear we have something in common."
At this, she discreetly placed her hand on her stomach. Since she was about a month ahead of Riley, she was already starting to show. It was small, but unmistakeable.
