Riley was still hovering between her two worlds, but she heard the news, and how happy Ted was, even if it didn't quite register in her mind.
She pulled away from Ted, letting go of him for the first time since Geoffrey attacked her. What was happening between Ted and Andromeda... she wanted it. She wanted it so badly, she wished she could close her eyes and make it happen. But even imagining it, she knew it wasn't real. It made her feel like everything was closing in on her. She was going to suffocate from the weight of it all.

When he smiled at her like that, Andi couldn't help but think that everything was going to be OK. He always had the ability to erase her fears and make everything sound so easy. She would be the one who would worry, and he would be the optimist who would make her believe that things would work out. It was good that they balanced themselves out so perfectly.
"I'm scared... but I believe you," Andi said. "And I'd love to meet your parents."
Before she could say anything else, Riley shifted in position, and Andi looked at her guiltily, wondering if Riley had overheard their conversation. She didn't want Riley to feel like they were shoving their own happiness in her face while she was still grieving.

The door opened then, and Lydia entered, carrying a small vial. She had run into Chase in the hall and he'd told her about the extra visitor he'd allowed in, and Lydia nodded at the girl.
"All right. I have the Peace Draught here," she said. "We need to get her to drink it, so that she'll relax."
Glancing at Ted, she said, "Can you help me get her to take it?"

Meanwhile, Arthur was resting comfortably in his room. He had been given a glass of pumpkin juice and some crackers, and he was happily snacking on these when Angelique came back into the room.
"Oh, hi, Angelique," he greeted her in his friendly way. "Did you check in with everyone? Is everyone OK? Or did you have more questions for me? I can't remember much else..."

Angelique came in and sat down. "I haven't been in to see Riley yet, but I'm told she's unhurt... she's just in shock. Which is perfectly understandable. They're keeping her overnight for observation. Geoffrey is.... well, the curse has been removed, and he's understandably quite upset. His doctor won't let me in to see him yet... but we thought that if you were to go in and visit him, to show him that you're OK, it might help him feel a little better. He can't see Riley yet, but I think he'd like to see you, if you wanted."

Arthur nodded immediately. He held no grudge against Geoffrey. It was obvious to Arthur that Geoffrey had not been in control of his own body at the time, and besides, he'd only been Stunned. Maybe he would have had a different perspective if Geoffrey had tried to kill him, but as it was, Arthur was fine with the idea of seeing him.
"Sure. I'll visit him" Arthur replied. "Just let me finish my juice and crackers."

Angelique couldn't help but laugh at the simple response from Arthur. That was one of the best things about Arthur; he saw things from a rather innocent perspective and was always quick to do a favor or put someone at ease.
"Yeah, you can finish your juice and crackers first," she said. "Take your time. I don't want to overwhelm Geoffrey; he's had a hard day. And so have you, for that matter."

Arthur took a sip from his pumpkin juice, then waved his hand dismissively. "Nah, it's no big deal, really. I was only stunned. I slept through the whole thing, and now I get to eat crackers and drink pumpkin juice. I think of everyone, I had it the easiest. So don't worry about me."
He was quiet as he finished eating his crackers, then he drank the last of his pumpkin juice. When he was done, he immediately began to slide his legs over the side of the bed. "OK, let's go," he said.

Angelique smiled. Arthur never ceased to amaze her. After all he'd been through today, and he was just his usual, trusting self. She couldn't help but wish that there were more Arthur Weasleys in the world and fewer jerks who would curse a girl's best friend and order him to kill her.
"Ok, hold on. Let me help you up. And we'll have to wait at the reception desk to meet up with Dr. Kelly. He's the mediwizard who treated Geoffrey."

Arthur allowed Angelique to help him to his feet. In fact, he was a little less steady on his feet than he'd expected to be, and when Angelique offered to bring over a wheelchair that was sitting in the corner, Arthur agreed reluctantly.
A few minutes later, Arthur was wheeling up to the reception desk in a magically automated wheelchair, with Angelique at his side. "Can you page Dr. Kelly?" he asked.

Adrienne nodded, sending a winged note off quickly, which would page her brother.
It was only a couple of minutes before Chase came to greet them. He had been speaking to the medi-nurses that were supposed to watch over Geoffrey, and instructing them to leave him at peace as much as possible.
"Ah, hello again," Chace said, coming up to the two of them and immediately recognizing Angelique. "You much be Arthur," he said in turn to the red headed man. "Ready to see Geoffrey, I take it?" he glanced back at Angelique to confirm.
"He's still pretty upset, and I'm not sure how he'll receive you, but we'll give it a shot."

Angelique nodded at Dr. Kelly. "Yes, this is Arthur. I... suppose you'd prefer it if I stayed back for now, just to see how he handles seeing Arthur?"
She was really anxious to start questioning Geoffrey, especially because he might be able to identify the person responsible for cursing Geoffrey. For his safety, as well as Riley's, she wanted to catch the person who had done this. And Geoffrey might well be their only witness.

Chace actually shook his head. "I would like you to come in with us, actually. But you and I will stay back a little. It just occured to me that there's a possibility he'll say something useful to Arthur, and it'd be best if you heard it. But if you could just refrain from questioning him about anything... at least until I give the go-ahead."
It was just that the way Geoffrey responded... he was hurting. Chace couldn't blame him. He'd almost killed a girl he said he loved like a sister. Chace was just glad he was stopped.
He tilted his head down the hall. "Come on."

Ted had opened his mouth to respond to Andromeda, to tell her that there was nothing to be scared of because he was there and he would take care of her and their child. But he never got to say it. Riley had pulled away from him, and he felt a stab of guilt. He knew he shouldn't feel guilty for being happy, but the poor girl had been through so much recently. If he thought she had been lucid at all, he would have acted differently.
But maybe she was responding to something in her head instead, and it had nothing to do with him or Andi.
He sighed in relief when Dr. Kenyon came back. "Yeah, I can help."

Riley was hardly lucid, but she was increasingly aware of what was going on around her. She was just distanced from it.
She vaguely heard something about the peace draught, and getting her to drink it, and something in Riley just... panicked.
She locked eyes with Ted, as if no one else were in the room, and said, "No. I don;t want it."
She was scared of it, actually. What if it wasn't the potion the doctor claimed it what? What if it was something that would kill her? She thought she had the right to be paranoid.

Lydia looked at Ted. She felt for Riley, and she understood where the girl was coming from. How was she supposed to trust anyone at this point? She clearly trusted Ted, almost instinctively, because he'd been the one to actually save her. But how could she trust anyone else, especially a doctor she'd only just met? There was no way for her to know that the potion was what she said it was, and not some terrible poison.
"Ms. Neves," Lydia said patiently. "I know you've been through a horrible ordeal, and you have no reason to trust me. This potion will help you to relax, and right now you need rest more than anything. Will it help you if I take a sip from the potion, just so you know that it isn't poisoned?"

Ted watched Riley. Her eyes lowered, and while she didn't look towards the young doctor, Ted knew she was listening. He felt so badly for her, it was heartbreaking.
"No," Ted said, in place of Riley. "I'll take some of it."
He held out his hand to Lydia and waited for her to give him the potion. When she did, he uncapped it and drank a small sip, holding it up for Riley so that she could see some of it was gone.
"Go on, Riley. You need some rest. I promise I won't leave... I won't let anything happen to you while you sleep."

Andi had quietly stepped away to give Riley a little space while this was happening. She actually felt a little uncomfortable, like she was intruding, but at the same time, she wanted to be there for Riley as a friend. So she moved over to stand with Hayden, who had not said a word.
As Ted offered to take the draught to show Riley that it was safe, Andi smiled softly. Was it any wonder that she loved him so much? He was going to be a wonderful father...

Riley shook her head. She didn't trust being asleep, even if Ted swore to stay.
When he urged her again to take it, she looked up, meeting Ted's eyes and then Dr. Kenyon's. "No. I'm not trying to be difficult. But I'm not going to take it. I don't want to rest, I don't want to fall asleep... I don't want to be caught off gaurd." And I don't want to hear any more about how happy you are, she added silently in her head.
Her eyes went back to Ted. "And what if someone gets to you while I'm resting? I won't know."
There was the heart of it, the reason she was refusing any peace. She would be unaware, and that much easier to target.
"I want to go home," she said, not really directing the phrase at anyone. Then, she laughed bitterly. "But I can't. Home's with the guy who just tried to kill me."

Hayden didn't know what to say as he stood in the room but then again he didn't really talk that much anyhow. Seeing Ted and Andi happy made a small smile appear on his face but he kept his congratulations until later.
"Riley, you're safe here," he finally spoke up. Even as he spoke, he knew that Riley would probably try to convince otherwise. "You have both Ted and I here, so is Andromeda. I swear to you that you are safe." His words were soft. What else was he supposed to do? He couldn't force her to drink it. "Just drink the potion and relax. Whenever you wake up, we'll go from there. We're not going to leave here until you do."
Hearing her next words Hayden frowned. "You're going to get really weak if you don't rest. Here is a good enough place as any."
