When she shivered, Chris moved his hand up and down her arm. Being respectful, he was holding his tongue to keep from asking questions. He was going to give her time to do whatever she needed to calm herself down.
He didn't think that the day was going to start with arguing, only to get back to the house and her in his arms. Of course, it wasn't the relationship version of holding her in his arms, it was out of comfort. Chris kissed her head gently before resting his cheek on her head.

For Andrea the lines blurred, she knew distnctly who was holding her, at least her body did. She molded perfectly in his arms as if she had been fashioned to be in those specific arms for all of her life. She fit so well it was like a puzzle and they had been going about putting the last piece in all wrong, finally they connected on a primal level and she was his, and he for the time being was hers.
The comfort was overwhelming, she had regained her head a while ago and yet part of her was too embarassed to say anything, another part of her was afraid to bring reality into whatever was happening between them. Still as the silence drew on she gathered her nerve and lifted her head off his chest to look up at him, "I'm sorry..."

Had his brothers walked in the library, Chris wouldn't have moved. He had already admitted to them that he felt something for her but he wasn't sure how to describe it. Chris had yet to admit something like that to her; however, right now let her know that there was something else there. The need to keep her from what she was scared of wasn't the captain side of him.
Chris lifted his head from hers as he felt her move. "You don't have to apologize," he said. "There's nothing to be sorry about."

"I'm embarrassed more than I can say." she told him honestly, " What a fool you must think I am...that or I've gone insane." she sighed a little tremor shaking through her, she felt very brittle, very vulnerable and she didn't like it.
"I...it won't happen again." she promised, now that she was prepared that was. Well now that she knew her uncle was in London, she'd simply never leave the house again.

"I think nothing of the sort," he responded. He put a hand gently on her cheek. "I didn't mind it. We all have our moments and because of that back there, I think nothing less of you." Chris smiled lightly before letting it fade.
"Do you want to talk about what made you tremble?" Whatever, or whoever, made Andrea scared, Chris was sure that he could take care of the problem.

He probably could, and quite swiftly at that, but Andrea was determined not to embroil him into her own schemes. She was already enough of a bother. She released a shuddering breath and shook her head no at him. She never wanted to talk about that man or what he did to her. She didn't know how long she'd be able to get away with her silence, she simply hoped he wouldn't be too interested in her life.

"Fair enough." He stroked her cheek softly with his thumb. "Just know I'm always here if you need anything." Christopher knew that all he had to do was ask a few people and get all the information on the Fairchild family that he wanted, or almost all of what he wanted to know. However, he wasn't going to do that. If she wanted him to know, she would tell him.
His eyes were soft and he leaned toward her a little. "Have I ever told you how utterly beautiful you are?"

She laughed at first, "Beautiful?" she asked, " I'm such a mess." she ran her hand through her short cropped hair and sighed, she wish she had the length back but that would take time. "I'm sorry about what happened today." she said then shook her head, "Not my ridiculous display, but the argument...I don't know what got into me."
Perhaps it was left over resentment, but he had been trying so hard to be pleasing to her, making him suffer just didn't hold much interest for her.

"The argument was bound to happen, so don't apologize." Christopher was trying to be level headed. They needed to argue as much as he didn't want to argue with her, he knew that it was for the best they did. Now maybe he could get her to see how sorry he was for what went on at sea.
"I hope you know that I don't tell just any woman that she is beautiful." Even the harlots in different ports, he never called beautiful or pretty. It was always an unemotional affair. Just the need for something to not make him feel lonely. Even if that was fulfilled, he felt even more empty at night. Now, he didn't feel lonely even though he and Andrea hadn't done anything, she seemed to fill that void that he had felt.

Andrea issued him a small smile, deceptive for she now looked like a little girl incapable of having an argument let alone starting one. She wanted to call his tongue quick or wry and disregard his compliment and what it did to her nervous system, but instead she nodded, accepting what honesty and admiration he was offering. "Thank you." she said with a soft sigh, "I don't believe it's necessary for me to tell you the same." she smiled trying to restore a jovial mood rather than a serious one, " You know perfectly well how gorgeous you are."

He gave a soft laugh. "Thank you," he said. Kissing her on the forehead, Christopher looked seriously at her. "Andrea, I want you to know how much you mean to me. I have done a lot of thinking and without you by myside on that ship, I'm not sure what I would have done. You were the one that I could always depend on. I'm not saying this as a captain, I'm saying it just me. I'm understand that you have been through troubled times and I want to try and make things better. I've finally come to my decision."
Chris was quiet for a moment, then cleared his throat. "Andrea, would you like to come back on the ship? Not as a worker, you don't have to work if you don't want to. I'm not going to force you. I would just like for you to still be around."

He kissed her forehead in a strangely paternal gesture and she leaned in to it, they had been romantic on that island it wasn't a surprise that either of them felt that lingering closeness. Finally she sighed. After all he had told her, all those wonderful words, Andrea knew a sense of bone deep weariness.
She shook her head no, "I can't."

A frown formed on his face. "You, can't?" He looked at her curiously. Something in him felt like it was breaking. Christopher searched her eyes. "May I ask the reason as to why you can't, or is it just something that you don't want to talk about?"
He wasn't sure has to why she wouldn't want to return to sea. It had been her home for the past several years. Call him selfish, but he wanted her by his side and he was going to try and fight to keep her there.

It was the hardest thing Andrea had done. Saying no to Christopher would never be easy especially when she wanted what he was offering. Well she wanted more as well but she couldn't ask for the moon and the stars, she was happy enough to gaze at them. Still Andrea had been running from her problems for so long she never thought she'd have to face them.
Now however she had spent the last week or so contemplating what she was going to do, she didn't really have a plan or course of action, but she had figured out that she was tired of simply running, she needed to handle her past, and find a way to move on. So she had refused Christopher. She refused to run away with him, on what she was sure would simply be a fling, she knew him too well.
"Chris...I..." she felt so very sorry for herself, and were he to simply kiss her she'd probably throw her pride and her heritage to the wind and stay with him for as long as he wanted her, but she wanted to keep her resolve. "I just can't."

The main reason why he hadn't kissed her yet was because he wanted her to feel like she wasn't going to just be some woman. He didn't want her to think that he was just going to throw her to the side. Andrea did know him well, far better than his brothers knew him. She knew his secrets, fears, dreams, everything.
Using one of his hands, he took one of hers. "Is it because you really can't or is it you just won't?" He looked directly at her with a hint of vulnerability in his eyes that he didn't really mean to have there. "Andrea, if you're not going to go out to sea with me, then I suppose I'm going to stay on land with you until you want to go back out."

Andrea believed in the big gesture, though she didn't really know there was a whole theory behind it. Still a man like Christopher offering to stay on land until she went out to sea with him, that was definitley a big gesture and she couldn't believe it.
"W-what?" she asked completely stunned, " Chris that's insane..."

Maybe it was insane for him to be on land for awhile rather than the sea. He had always stayed on land for several days, only to go back out to sea. Now, he was going to change that.
"No, it's not insane," he replied. "Look at the condition Christine is in, I can't leave out to sea to have her like that. Also, it would be completely different without you there. I wouldn't have anyone that would know me that well. I like having you there and I want you to come with me, but if you don't want to, I don't mind staying on land for awhile."

It made more sense when he explained that he was staying for Christine, and honestly Andrea felt terrible for the girl. Then he went on to shower her with importance on the ship and she gulped down the lump that was suddenly in her throat.
"...you've sailed before...without me...I mean, without me as your cabinboy.." she said trying to lessen her importance, she didn't know why. She adored Chris, and she adored his good opinion, so why was she trying to deny his feelings for her?

"I didn't really mean for you to just go back as a cabinboy. You've always sailed with me, even if you were just a hand on deck at the time. Christine always liked you, and believe me I noticed from day one. I watched you and I could see why she liked you. That was the main reason why I asked you to be my cabinboy. I knew how much she trusted you and I knew that I could do the same."
Christopher was no good with really admitting how he felt about her, or at least he thought so. "I think it would just completely different and I'm going to wait until you are ready to go back. I don't care how long it takes."

She smiled, and was close to laughing, but instead put her finger to his lips then shook her head, "Thank you." she was thanking him for making her smile, for giving her value, for offering her a place to stay.
Sighing she nestled back down into his arms and closed her eyes reveling in the feeling of safety. An impish smile came to her lips, "And this is a castle." she said having to have the last word at last in their ridiculous argument from the morning.
