He gave a laugh before finishing his cup of coffee. Brady sat his empty cup back on the bar. June was refreshing to be around, that was for sure. He rarely laughed anymore, but then again he wasn't ever really around people that could make him.
"Do they even know what exactly they are looking for in terms of the portkey and the general area? And to be quite honest, the guy you sent is not the sharpest tool in the shed but he's fairly nice."

June laughed when he told her the guy was not the sharpest tool in the shed. "Yeah, I can tell. Honestly, they called me and told me they had a coat hanger that was a portkey. We deactivated it from the office, and now I'm just trying to pick it up."
She crossed her arms in front of her on the counter and leaned forward, her head turned so that she was facing him. "Not that I'm complaining, really. It keeps me out of the office, and I made a new friend today." Her smile widened. "I'm serious about that lunch. Come visit me. It'll be my treat." Then she laughed, a pretty, natural laugh. "If I haven't scared you off yet, that is."

"A new friend? I'm touched," he said grinning and putting a hand over his heart. "That's probably the nicest thing I've heard so far today." Brady gave a laugh. Since when did he really laugh or grin or even really smile? Now was not a good time to ponder on that subject.
"And I'm glad to have made a new friend myself. I haven't many of those, so any addition is good to me." Never did he think that a morning coffee at his usual spot would become entertaining. "Since you're offering, then I don't suppose I should say no. That would be rude." He gave her a playful wink. "So I will take you on your offer, and don't worry about scaring me off. That I believe will be next to impossible."

June laughed, flashing her smile in his direction. "You should be touched. I'm not nice to everyone, you know. Just the people I like." She winked at him as she added, "I can say nicer things."
She really, really liked Brady. He had kind eyes, and his face lit up like a little boy when he smiled.
"Good," she told him. "I like a guy whose hard to scare off."
Finally, the manager came back out, handing her an old shoe. "Thanks," she said, smiling brightly, though she rolled her eyes towards Brady. It certainly took them long enough.
"Well, I guess that's my cue to get back to work."

"I'm liked hm?" Brady gave her a playful look. He gave a short laugh before emptying out his coffee cup.
After the manager handed June the old portkey, Brady rolled his eyes. "Good thing no one yelled help," he said sarcastically. "It was good meeting you June. Look forward to seeing you again and don't work to hard."

"You either," June told him, smiling widely as she was on her feet.
"And don't forget to come see me about that lunch, all right?" She added, sincerely hoping that he would. He was a sweet guy, and he made her laugh. All of that was good enough for her to consider him a friend.
She waved, and then she was out the door, portkey in hand.
