Ama groaned and rolled out of bed. "Whatever," she resigned, grabbing her school robes- the first set of robes on her dresser - and dragged her feet to the bathroom. 20 minutes later, she was out, dry and dressed.
"Okay," Ama said. "I'm ready." they left the dormatories and met the boys in the hallway. "Not exactly how i planned on spending my new years," Ama yawned. "But it's still good to see you all," Ama smiled.

"Morning Jamie," he said as his brother and Jamie arrived in the hallway. "Sleep well?"
A few minutes later, Ama and Sheena got there. Ama's yawning words were similar to the words that had entered Hayden's head before. Of course, things like this were never planned and known before hand. He cleared his thoughts and smiled as the five of them were in the hallway.
Hayden put another smile on his face. "Now that we're all together, let's go. There's a portkey on the grounds that we can take."

Jamie nodded brickly. He crossed his arms over his chest. slightly upset he hadn't grabbed any cloak. It was slightly chilly, but he wasn't about to press anything. He didn't return any of the smiles or gestures that might have been made toward him. Jamie was half asleep, and not at all happy with this visit made. No one in their right mind would wake up all the kids unless some sort of announcement had been made. Maybe Cyrus finally proposed to Lina, and they wanted to spread the joy.
He just followed Hayden toward the key.

As he led them toward the portkey, Hayden was dreading the fact that they had to find out about their brother and cousin.
They finally reached the portkey, and he picked up the key and held it up for the other ones to touch. "Alright, are we ready everybody?"
After everyone touched the portkey, he felt the familiar tug. "Let go," he said as soon as they reached Aunt Cara's. Hayden hid the frown that wanted to appear on his face. His heart became heavier for the fact that they were about to find out the news. "Come on, we can't keep Cara waiting."

Judah and Suri arrived back at Cara's before Hayden and the children got there. Cyrus was there with Lina already. He held onto Suri as they walked in. Last night was a complete mess when they went home last night. Judah went through coffee like it was going out of style. He was a mess, but he had to be strong for Suri or at least try to be.
Entering the house, he walked where Cara sat. He made sure that Suri was going to be fine with Cara. After kissing Suri's cheek, he put a hand on Cara's shoulder. Judah didn't have to ask where Mathieu was. Walking to the the study, he knocked on the doorframe. "Mathieu," he said walking in.

Ama was more awake now, and was curious as to why her mother wanted them all there. Obviously it was a big Ferrera Family anouncement...but what was it?
"What's this all about Hayden?" Ama asked.

Mathieu was staring sightlessly into a glass of firewhiskey. It was clear he had not slept, and his face was shadowed with the beginnings of a beard. As Judah entered, Mathieu didn't react for a long moment. Then, without raising his head so much as a fraction of an inch, he grunted, "Go away, Jude. Unless you're here to tell me it's all a mistake and he's perfectly fine."

Hayden wanted to tell Ama that he couldn't tell her, but he kept his mouth shut and motioned for them to follow him into the house. He didn't even bother to knock on the door, he just opened the door and motioned for the other ones to go on in.
The atmosphere in the house was extremely depressing. Hayden thought that it was almost unbearable, but he knew that he had to be the strong one. The huge lump in his throat returned and Hayden felt the urge to tear up, but he swallowed it down. Walking to were Cara was sitting, he noticed that she hadn't moved since he left. "Aunt Cara," he said softly. "We're all here."

"I'm not going anywhere Mathieu," he said taking a seat in front of Mathieu's desk. Resting his elbow on the arm on the chair, he sighed. Judah didn't really see how Hayden was keeping it together like he was. Like Mathieu, he drank firewhiskey after he finished off the coffee. Suri made him stop by taking it away from him.
"I thought that I would join you for a little while."

Cara wanted to say that they had to wait for Roland, and she did tear up at that, but she tried not to let the children see it.
"Everyone have a seat. There's breakfast in the kitchen if you're hungry." She'd spent her morning cooking, preparing for people, because that's what shew kne how to do. "We need to wait for Mathieu and Judah." Her tone was emotionless and flat.

Mathieu now looked up to glare almost angrily at Judah. His eyes were bloodshot, with dark circles under them, and his face was deathly pale. He rather looked as if he had died about two hours ago.
"It's not fair, Jude," he said, his voice sounding hollow and very far away. "It's not bloody fair. How can he be gone? Just yesterday.... he was here... he was happy... I'd never seen him so happy. He was in love, you know that? He told us so. And now he's..."
He trailed off, unable to say the word. He stared down at his glass for a long moment, then picked it up. He raised it to his lips for a moment, but didn't take a drink. Instead, he hurled it across the room, shattering it.

The moment they walked into the house, Ama wanted to leave. The sudden feeling that something wasn't right hit her hard. Instinctivly, Ama reached over and grasped her hand around Jamie's arm.
"Not hungry, thanks though Mum..." Ama said. She was itching to ask what was wrong, but she figured they'd have to wait for Roland.

Judah never lost a child of his own, but Roland was like another son to him. It hurt him but he wasn't sure what he should do. As Mathieu started talking about Roland, Judah felt a burning sensation in his throat and his eyes started to water.
"I know its not fair," he said quietly. It wasn't fair. Roland wasn't supposed to have left. Things are not supposed to have been this way.
He was in love? Judah frowned. As Mathieu threw the glass across the room, Judah didn't even flinched. He wasn't going to lie and say everything was going to be alright.
"Have you left your study at all?"

Mathieu wanted the glass back. It was almost a metaphor for the entire situation. He couldn't have the glass back; it was shattered beyond repair. Just as he wanted Roland back, and he was gone, forever.
"No," he said. "And I don't want to. I just want to be left alone. Can't you just leave me alone, Judah? I can't... I can't close my eyes without seeing his face... and it hurts so much I can't even cry."

"No, I can't leave you alone," he said defiantly. "I can't let you start to wither up in here. I know that you probably want to, and I do as well, but we have to think about our wives and other children." Judah ran a hand through his hair.
"You have to just take a few minutes outside of here. The children are going to be here shortly if they're not already. They need their father."

Merlin's beard.
The kids. How was he to look at Amandine, or Jamie, and tell them that their big brother wasn't coming home? That he was gone forever? He couldn't even bring himself to say the words. How could he be there for the younger ones when he couldn't even be there for himself?
"I can't.... I can't face them..." he whispered.

"Yes you can." Judah knew that it was going to be hard. He didn't even want to see the reaction of his own children, especially Sheena's. That was going to finish breaking his heart seeing her and Ama finding out the news.
"You have to Mathieu. You just have to. I don't really want to face my own, but its something that we have to do. Its our job." Judah's voice seem to tighten just a bit as he felt like his throat was swelling.

Mathieu didn't want to do any of this. He wanted to wake up from this horrible nightmare and have Roland back. And if he couldn't do that, then he wanted to crawl into the deepest, darkest hole and let the world go on without him.
"Why didn't he tell me he was in trouble?" he said, looking up at Judah as if he had the answers. "I could have helped him... I'd have gladly taken his place. I should be the one that's gone, not him... no parent should have to lose his child...."

"Any of us could have helped him. Maybe it was just something that he felt he could take care of himself. I couldn't tell you the real reason why. I do wish I knew why he did it. If I knew, I would tell you." Judah slid down in his chair and rested his forehead on the side of his hand.
Why didn't Roland just ask any of them for help? It just didn't make any sense to him. "You know, Cara needs you more than anybody," he spoke up again.

Mathieu looked at Judah sharply. "Stop pressuring me, Jude," he said tersely. "Don't think I don't know what I have to do. I am fully aware that I have responsibilities to my family. But tell me how I'm supposed to take care of them when I feel like the world is crashing in on me? I can't even summon the strength to get up out of this chair. I can't sleep, and when I think of eating, I want to be sick. I can't even cry, Jude... all I can think of is that I want to find out who did this and make them pay."
