"That's true," Paige said. She was slightly disappointed. She was sort of hoping to uncover some great exclusive. "But how exactly did he get in the building in the first place? He was fighting death eaters, right? Were they fighting inside the building?"
She was trying, in a subtle way, to get information out of him. She wasn't sure it would work, but she was getting so little information from the ministry that she really wanted something to go on.

Sean frowned deeper, and glanced up again, then around. "Maybe they were," he said. He wished he knew what the story was from Riley, but Daniel hadn't told him yet.
"But if they were, you'd think there would be more than one body here."
She would have more luck talking to his brother because he knew more, but Sean didn't say this. They had to be really careful what they gave away to her anyway.
"Walk with me, Paige," Sean said, starting his search again of the building.

Paige nodded. She had sort of been hoping he would offer that, rather than sending her away. Sooner or later, he would lose patience with her and tell her to leave, but for now, she was happy to be getting a small amount of information from him.
"The muggles have no idea what happened here... they think it was a purely accidental fire. They actually think he was probably a homeless person--or they did, until you guys talked to them. I'm glad you set them straight. He deserves better than that. I just hope... well, I hope it was painless for him. I met him once. He was a nice guy."

"Maybe it was an accidental fire," Sean said. He glanced at her and raised an eyebrow. "You said you got a tip about this. Who tipped you off that said the fireworks started after the fire?"
Something about all of this didn't add up, he had to agree with her. But he couldn't take anything she said as fact right now. It was his job to provide the facts.
"Maybe..." He gave her another look. "You're really lucky I like you and I'm going to let you listen to this." Louder, he called to his brother. "Dan, come here," he said.

Paige reached into her pocket and pulled out the note she had received. It was on black parchment with red writing. "Here. If it will help, here's the tip I received. You can run whatever tests you need to run on it... it's possible you can find out who sent it. And if that person was the person who killed him... I hope you catch him."
Giving him a slight smile, she continued, "I know us reporters can get a bad rap... and I don't think I handled things well with Ms. Neves. But I really do want to help, if I can. In return for an exclusive, that is."

"Of course," Sean said, a slight smile on his lips. "But you know I can't tell you anything until it's fact. Our theories are off limits."
He read over the note while he waited for Daniel to return. "Calls attention to itself, doesn't it? I'm probably going to need to show this to Ms. Neves." If it did turn out to be from someone involved, she might recognize it or know something about it. He hated to have to put her through anything more, though.

Daniel wasn't finding anything of interest. Once he was called over by Sean, he ran over to his brother. "What is it," he asked before looking up. He could see this was the place where everything started. Daniel swallowed and then finally noticed the girl standing there. He looked at her curiously, remembering her slightly as the girl Sean had danced with once.
"And what's she doing here?"

"She's fine," Sean said, dismissing his brother's question about Paige. "She's a material witness now," he added, in case Daniel tried to make her leave, which he knew they should, but he couldn't bring himself too. And the note... well, that involved her.
"What was Ms. Neves' story? Did she actually have any details that would help us?"

He was going to tell the girl to leave, but he looked at Sean. Daniel was still iffy about having her there. She wasn't part of MLE and Daniel wasn't comfortable with her there. He wasn't going to talk to anyone other than Sean about the case.
"Yeah," he said finally. "Ms. Neves did have information that would help us. She said that the victim fell." As he was talking, Daniel pointed up to the ceiling. He was careful as to what he was saying. "What all did you find out?"

Sean nodded. That made sense... and now he knew why he kept being drawn towards that spot in the ceiling.
"He fell right where the explosion happened... which means he probably caused it," Sean guessed. And the flames were cold... there was a flame freezing spell, but even if he had performed that, the shock of the explosion and the damage it had done to the building still would have killed him. And they had his body.
He shared this with Daniel. "It's just strange."

"But we also have to think about the other person to. He was fighting a death eater. If they were fighting up there of course there would have been curses through at each other. Say the death eater threw a fire spell at him, that would have helped start everything." He looked back up to the ceiling. "He wouldn't have had a fighting chance after the explosion. Although, he did keep it from spreading to anywhere else."
Daniel stratched his head. "It is strange," he agreed.

Paige frowned, looking at Daniel. It was clear he didn't want to reveal too much information to her. And while she understood why Angelique and Riley didn't want to talk to her, she felt she deserved a little credit. She had, after all, been here before the MLE had arrived and done some of their investigation for them.
"Hi, uh... Dan, was it? I'm Paige Owen of the Daily Prophet." She extended her hand to him. "I received an anonymous tip that I should come here tonight. I've given that letter to Sean already. I also talked to a number of the muggle authorities and got some interesting information. I'm really not trying to be in the way, I'm trying to help out with the investigation. But I still don't have a clear picture of what happened here tonight. You say he fell from there? That could support Sean's theory of the blast throwing the body... it was found over there, by the door."

"Yes, its Daniel," he said. He didn't really like for anyone other than Sean to call him Dan, that was just the way it was. "And Ms. Owen, I do appreciate your help and I'm sure that you understand that this is an investigation. As you being able to help us, I ask that you not put everything in the Prophet. You don't look like you would, but you can understand the reason I'm just asking." He looked toward Sean again the back toward Paige.
"If the body was found by the door, that would mean he almost hit the ground before the explosion went off. However, I don't think he was just pushed or anything like that. The person he was fighting forced him backward and then something happened whenever the victim fell. I'm not so sure he would have just fell backward on his on, do you?"

Paige nodded. "I've already agreed not to release the article until his family's been notified. I'm not trying to be insensitive or to hinder your investigation. I'd like to help, if possible. You see... I knew him. Sort of. Well, once, anyway. This is a horrible way for him to go... although if he was fighting a death eater, I think it's probably the way he would have wanted it."
She glanced up at the gap in the ceiling. "So... OK. If he was fighting on the roof, then maybe a spell knocked him backwards and that's how he fell."

Sean was a little less concerned with how Roland fell, and less concerned with his brother not wanting Paige there. She was trying to help afterall.
"And if he was the cause of the explosion, the person he was fighting may have had just enough time to get away from the building, which explains why there was only one body if two of them were fighting. Maybe you're right, maybe he was hit with a fire spell, and he could have frozen them. It still could have triggered the blast if he didn't freeze them in time, and that's the part he couldn't escape."

"Thats true," he said. "Because he only had a few seconds before he would have hit the ground. It contained the explosion to here only since nothing else was on fire. The person he was fighting could have known that the victim wouldn't make it after the fall and that would have naturally given him time to get away."
Daniel looked around again. "The biggest problem is proving who did it. I believe we can guess which group did it, but none of them would ever show their faces." He shook his head. "Plus, we have to hope that the healers at St. Mungo's can identify the body."

"But who besides Ferrera could it be? There were no muggles around, and he fell through the building." Protocal alone was the only reason why he was really having the body examined.
But something didn't feel right. He had that deja vu sense that he got sometimes, usually right before a vision would hit him, and he couldn't place what it meant. He glanced back to where they found the body. "I don't know. Obviously, it's Ferrera's body. Something just still seems... weird."

"Well, Ms. Neves did say there were three deatheaters," he said. "Although I think the body is Ferrera's." Daniel shook his head. There was something strange too, but he couldn't figure it out. It was going to bother him until they did figure it out.
"When you say weird, do you mean people disappearing weird or ghostly weird," he asked looking at Sean.

"I don't know," Sean said. "I can't place it. People disappearing kind of weird, I guess." He said this subtly, not wanting Paige to ask what they meant, but it was a fair question from his brother.
"Ms. Neves did say she killed one of the Death Eaters..." He glanced up sharply at Paige, realizing he'd given an important detail away. His look was just to remind her that she couldn't say anything until the Auror's released his name. "I wonder what happened to that body."

"I don't know," Daniel answered. "I'm not sure if they would have taken the body back with them. After all, the deatheaters don't seem the type that would take their own back after they were killed."
This whole case seemed to be strange to him. "We can do another sweep of the area and see if we can't find another body."
