Daniel's expression was grave, but he knew that they had work to do. "Don't worry about the muggle authorities Ms. St. Claire, we can make sure that they don't tamper with anything. We can even get them to leave." Daniel knew that he and Sean could come up with a good story to make the muggle authorities back off.
Giving a glance to Sean, Daniel's lips were tightened a little. This made Daniel even more determined to catch what Death Eater's he could.

Sean looked at his brother, returning the glance, then back at Angelique.
"I'm very sorry," he said. It would be a blow to the department for sure to have lost an Auror. "We'll have to get the details from you, of course. But we should head to the scene first." He didn't detail what they had to do. They all knew. Make sure the muggles had a story they believed, do damage control, find the body.

Angelique sighed. "Thanks. I knew I could count on you guys. Look... his partner is here in the auror office. She's going to take us to the scene. She'll tell you what happened, and then we'll leave it all to you."
Angelique was already exhausted, and she couldn't imagine how Riley was holding herself together right now. She let out a tired breath and then led the two brothers to the auror office. "Riley? Are you ready, or do you need a few minutes?"

Sean glanced at Daniel again. He hadn't been aware that there was another involved... or did she just know what had happened?
Coming into the Auror office and seeing the girl walking back to her desk, Sean didn't have to ask. She had been there, and though she wasn't crying, thanks to the charm, her eyes spoke volumes.

Riley was headed back to her desk just as Angelique came back with two MLE Officers. Everything was starting to feel formal, business like again. She felt like she could go on auto-pilot, which would be nice. She could just remove herself from the situation.
"I'm ready," she said, her voice quiet, but determined. She walked towards them, but didn't stop. She just walked by them to the apparation area. What was she supposed to say anyway? Thanks for coming?

Daniel understand her being quiet. Just the look on her face made it feel like there was a large amount of bricks on top of him. He knew that he shouldn't pressure her into telling them what happened, so he was going to wait until they got there.
He followed her and Angelique without a word.

Riley waited for them, and when they were altogether, so she made sure that everyone was touching in some way, and she concentrated on the building that she and Lyle had fought by, apparating them inside so that any muggles wouldn't see them. The last thing they needed was to have to bring in the Obliviator Squad.
The muggle firefighters had done a quicker job of extinguishing the fire than she'd expected. She was surprised, stepping outside, that only parts of the building were still in flames. Her stomach knotted, and she looked to Angelique. She didn't know what to do.

Looking between Riley and Angelique, Daniel cleared his throat. "We'll go take care of the muggle police," he said. "It shouldn't take us but just a moment." Looking to Sean he nodded with his head. "Then after that, we'll take a look around and see what we can, alright?" Daniel wasn't sure what exactly happened, but anyone could tell that there had been an explosion.
"Come on Sean."

Sean nodded, giving Riley a gentle smile. "We'll be right back... just stay here for a moment."
He started off after his brother. Getting rid of the muggle authorities was usually pretty easy. Most the time, all they had to do was say the were from a department higher up and that they had things covered from here.
"We just have to make sure they have a story before we get rid of them," he said softly when they were a little ways from Riley and Angelique. "And we need to find out if they found a body."

"We can say that we are looking for a few people and that we believe that they did this and we have reason to believe that they were after one of our men. He hasn't come back yet so we were sent to check it out and see if we found anything. Of course we tell them we are from higher up and that they need to leave the premise so that we can do a full on investigation because some of our other men are coming in later after we have a look around," Daniel said easily. "If they argue, we can threaten to take their badges."
A look of sorrow crossed his face as he finally glanced to Sean. "And I know that. If they didn't find one, we will have to and we can take it ourselves. I just hope we can find the auror," he said then taking a glance toward were a little bit of fire was left.

Paige had been tipped off by an anonymous owl that there was something of interest going on in the warehouse district, and she had arrived shortly before Angelique and Riley and the others. At the moment, she was flirting with one of the muggle police officers to try to get information from him. But at the distinctive pop! of several people apparating, Paige took her leave and moved in the direction of the sound. She could barely contain her smile as she recognized the Head Auror, Angelique St. Clare. The others she did not recognize, but clearly they were ministry officials.
"Ah, Ms. St. Clare," she said, extending her hand. "I'm Paige Owen from the Daily Prophet. I received an anonymous tip that there was something of interest taking place here tonight... I hear there was an explosion. Could I get a comment from you?"

Sean almost smiled at how easily his brother came up with the story, but there was really nothing amusing about what was going on. He wasn't looking forward to getting the story from the girl, either, who looked like she was ready to just drop.
But first thing was first.
"Good morning, gentlemen," Sean said when they came up to the muggle police.

Angelique shook her head. "No. No comment. Please... You'll receive a press release tomorrow, OK? But now is not the time."
She glanced worriedly at Riley. The last thing she needed was a nosy reporter prowling around. She wondered who had tipped the woman off. Could it have been one of the attackers, looking for a little publicity? Normally, an explosion in a muggle area of town would be of little interest to a Prophet reporter.
"Please go, Ms. Owen," she said more forcefully.

The muggle police looked at Daniel and Sean as if they had two heads each. "Who are you two," one of the police officers gruffed out. "We're investigators," Daniel replied smoothly. "We were sent here to check out the warehouse. We're here to do our job and please, tell your men to not touch anything. It's important to our investigation that nothing is touched, however seeing that you have probably been here a while, you can answer one question for us before you leave. Have you found a body?"

"Oh, come on. Just answer a couple of questions," Paige said. "First, was the explosion magical in nature? Also, a body was pulled from the rubble. Apparently, all they can be sure of is that it was a man, approximately 6 feet tall. Could you give me any hint of his identity?"
Turning to Riley, she added, "How about you? Could you give me a statement?"

Riley refused to look at Paige when she arrived, anger bubbling in her when she realized that it had to have been one of the attackers that tipped her off. No one else knew. For a moment, the anger was all the shone in her eyes.
Until she heard they had pulled out a body. Then she crumbled, and her eyes flashed to Paige. It all hit home. Roland was gone, and they had his body to prove it. She was going to be sick.
"Please go," She said, quietly, her voice breaking.

Angelique felt queasy as well, and her gaze shot to Riley. Wrapping an arm around the younger woman to hold her up, she looked back up at Paige. Her voice shook with anger and sorrow.
"I'm going to have to ask you to leave. Now. You'll get a statement in the morning."
The look on her face brooked no argument. If the woman pressured any further, Angelique was prepared to take drastic measures.

The man was looking between the two brothers like he wasn't sure what to do with them.
"What kind of investigators are you?" He asked.
Sean stepped in. "Look, it's New Years, it's late, we all want to get this over with a go home. Now, if you'll tell us if you'v found any bodies, we'd be glad to let you get back to your homes."
"We found one," the man said hesitantly, and gestured towards one of the ambulances.
Sean nodded to Daniel. "I'll check it out," he said. Then, quieter, he added, "You should get the girl's story."

Paige sighed. Her gaze flashed to Riley, and there was a hint of sympathy in her eyes. Clearly someone important had died tonight, and this woman was connected to him. She actually felt sorry; just a little bit.
Not enough to back off of the story... but clearly she would not be getting her story here. "OK. OK, I'll leave you alone," she said. "Sorry to have bothered you."
She walked away, but spotted two other people talking to the police. Perhaps one of them could help...

When Paige finally left, Riley broke away from Angelique, turning and looking for something, anything. "I'm going to be sick," she murmured.
She wanted to go home. She wanted to go sleep and pull the covers over her head and never wake up, and Merlin... she still had so much to do.
