Sean was still holding on to the girl who was unconscious. He kept watching the doors for his brother. He hated not being there. If something happened, he couldn't help. And how would he even know?
A pretty doctor came out and caught his attention. He stood up with the girl. "There was some kind of explosion in the Three Broomsticks. She was the only one that survived, but she won't wake up. I think she's pretty bad off."

Lydia's eyes betrayed no emotion as she nodded. Inside, of course, she was sick at the thought of such senseless violence. She bent down and waved her wand in front of the child's face. She lightly opened the girl's eyelid with her thumb and examined her reaction to the light.
"She has a head injury. I'm going to need to do a full scan to see what kind of damange she sustained. Can you lie her down on the bed? But be very gentle. I'm not entirely sure she doesn't have a spinal cord injury as well. Are you a relative?"

Sean started to shake his head as he moved towards the bed, but then he stopped and looked up at Dr. Kenyon. "Are you going to make me leave if I say no?" He asked. He wasn't going to leave the girl until someone else came for her.
Very gently, and taking great care not to move her body too much, Sean laid the young girl on the bed and took a step back so that the doctor could move in.

Lydia hesitated for just a second. Yes, technically, only relatives should be present during such procedures. But a lot of the healers had been letting that slide today. People were bringing in injured friends, or even injured strangers. And no one should be alone at a time like this.
"No, you may stay," she replied. "It just would be useful if you knew any personal information about the girl. But it's fine. I'll do my best to treat her."
She turned from him and focused her full attention on the child. She performed several diagnostic scans on the girl, eventually determining the extent of the girl's injuries.
When she was done, she straightened up and looked at him seriously. "I'm not going to lie to you," she said. "She's pretty badly hurt. She has a concussion, along with severe swelling in the brain, which is pressing on a blood vessel. I can give her something which will help the swelling go down, and then I can hopefully get a better look at the damage. I don't think she has a spinal cord injury, which is a good thing. She also has a few broken ribs. I think she's going to make it, but I'm honestly not sure she'll wake up."
The injuries suffered by the girl reminded Lydia of what they'd told her about Sarah, her sister, who was still in a coma. But somehow Lydia remained calm, not betraying a hint of emotion.

Sean wasn't sure how to process this information. He didn't know the girl, he had no personal investment in her... or at least, he shouldn't. But he hadn't been able to stop what happened in the Three Broomsticks, and she was the only one left alive. He wasn't going to give up on her.
"Okay. Well, then we have to give her the benefit of the doubt. If she was strong enough to survive the attack, maybe she's strong enough to wake up. But we have to give her that chance, right?" His eyebrows went up a little, and it was written clear on his face how badly he wanted this little girl to make it.

Lydia nodded. It was obvious how much he cared about this girl that he didn't even know. Such kindness in the face of such senseless violence and hatred touched her deep inside, even if it didn't show in her expression. It gave her hope.
"OK. I'll begin the treatment, and then it's just going to be a lot of waiting. You're welcome to stay, at least until we can figure out who she is and contact her family. Wait right here, I'm just going to get the potions I need."
She turned and started to walk away, but she the exhaustion of the day was starting to wear on her, and she stumbled, grabbing on to the best post and taking a shaky breath.

Sean jumped forward, putting his hands on her arms to help her get steady on her feet. "You should sit down," he said automatically. "I'll get you some water and I'll find someone else. For you and her."
His emergency training as an MLE officer was kicking into full gear, or was still running, he wasn't sure, and he moved her towards one of the chairs in the room.

April had been unconsious when she was brought in, and the last thing she remembered was a wand pointed at her, and then a lot of pain.
But right now... right now was perfect. She was warm and where she was was peaceful, and she liked it. She didn't want to leave.
It was only two more breaths before she made up her mind to stay there forever, and her heart beat for the last time.

"Damn it!" Chase said, hitting the wall behind the woman's bed. She was the third person he'd lost today, and he had a hard time handling losing people. His job, afterall, was to save them.
One of the mediwitches with him jumped a little when he hit the wall, and he told her to take care of the paperwork, annoucing her official time of death, and he left the room, running a hand through his hair.

It was Chase that Sean saw first, and despite his look, Sean went to him.
"If you can... there's a girl in that room that needs help," He said, pointing to the room he just left, "And one of your healers needs help."
Sean knew that all of the healers were extremely busy, but he needed someone, and Chase wasn't already tending to someone else. Without waiting for an answer, he turned to go back.

It's just... well, it's been a long day for everyone, hasn't it?" The last thing Lydia wanted to do was succumb to weakness. These people needed her, and she needed to be strong. If she broke down now, she wasn't sure she'd be able to get up again.

Chase took a breath and followed the younger man back into another room, another victim, and he assessed the situation.
Sean obviously hadn't listened to her, and now Chase was there as well.
Kneeling in front of Lydia, who probably had the information he needed about what was wrong with the girl on the bed, he asked, "What happened, Lydia... what do you need?"

Lydia glanced up at Chase. "She just needs an anti-swelling potion... but really, I'm fine. I can get it myself. I just needed to sit down for a minute."
She stood up, a determined look on her face. "I appreciate the help, but I've got this one covered. Let me just finish up here and then I promise I will take a break."

"Lydia, please do. I don't need to remind you that you are no use to them if you're also bad off," he told her gently.
Chase watched her walk away to get the potion, and he sighed. They were too understaffed, and a few of their own healers had left for the school.
He didn't even spare a glance at Sean as he left the room, heading for his sister's post and leaving Sean alone. "Call everyone who isn't already here or at Hogwarts," he told her, and he was off again.

Tim got the message from Adrienne that help was needed at St. Mungo's. He had just dozed off back to sleep as the message came. Tim quickly changed and went straight to the hospital. He walked directly into the area that contained the injured victims from the attack on Hogsmeade.
Walking by Adrienne, he looked at her, but had a grave look on his face as he headed toward the victims. He started to looking over victims as quickly, yet carefully.

Lydia let out an annoyed sigh. Great. Now her coworkers thought she was weak and fragile and that she was falling apart. Just what she needed. She worked hard to gain the respect of her coworkers, and at her young age, it wasn't easy.
Turning back to Sean, whose name she actually had not yet learned, she gave him a tight smile. "I'll be right back with that potion."
She walked briskly out of the room, her step not wavering one bit. Only when she had reached the supply closet, did she finally slump down against the door, allowing a few exhausted tears to fall.
She only allowed herself 30 seconds to break down and recompose herself. If she took longer than that, she would not be able to pull herself together again. Taking 3 deep breaths, she felt her control return, and she stood up straight. Then she grabbed the needed potion and headed back out to see to her patient.
"Here it is," she said, her tone clipped and business-like. "I need to apply it to the injury. Can you help me turn her over?"

Sean nodded when she came back. He had been by the girl's side while he waited, just wishing he knew more to be able to help.
"Yes, of course. Just telll me what to do," he said. "I don't want to hurt her or make it worse."
He needed her to be okay, to know that at least he and Dan saved someone out of that mess. But his eyes were also on Lydia, and he wished he could help her too.

Adrienne's eyes met Tim's, and she felt a rush of relief hit her. At least seeing him, she knew he wasn't hurt in the attack. It must be terrible for families, wondering if their child was hurt or not.
She just gave him a quick nod before he continued on, and her eyes moved to her brother next, who looked like he needed as much of a break as Lydia did... as they all did.
"Chase," she said, catching his attention and putting a hand on his arm. "Let me get you some water or something."

Chase barely even shook his head. "I know you're busy, Adrienne, but I need you to do a couple of favors for me. First, make sure that Lydia gets a break. I'm worried about her."
Contrary to what the healer thought, Chase wasn't judging her at all, and he did have respect for her. But this was overwhelming, and they weren't quite prepared for it. He wanted the other healers to be all right as well.
"And I need you to owl Maia... I don't know what happened in Hogsmeade, but I need to know that she's okay." They lived so close to town... what if she was hurt? Worse, what if she had been in town? It was driving him mad not knowing, and he wished he had heard from her.
His sister nodded and she was off, writing an owl to her brother's girlfriend.

"Just roll her over gently, but be careful with her head. Don't let it bump anything," she explained.
She moved a little closer to the girl, so that she would be in the right place to apply the potion. The idea was that it would penetrate through the skin to the affected area. Just to be safe, however, she would probably also have the girl swallow a small amount of it when she was done.
Sometimes Lydia wondered if Sarah would still be in a coma if she'd had access to magical remedies soon after her injury. Even though she had been transferred to St. Mungo's, where she now resided, the treatments were too late to reverse the damage.
