Blake frowned. There was a reason why Emelia had not answered most of the letters from her brothers. He had kept them from her. He had a charm set on the house that caused all owls directed at Emelia to go straight to him, where ever he happened to be. In fact, he had a large collection of these letters hidden in his study back at the house. He wasn't sure why he'd kept them all, except that there might come a time when he would need them. Most of them had never even been opened.
"She'll do her best to keep up on her correspondence," he said dismissively, gently pulling Emelia away from Mathieu. "Say goodbye to your other brother," he said in a whisper as he guided her towards Judah.

Emelia's eyes stayed on Mathieu for a moment longer, and she smiled. When she saw them, it was so hard to believe they had forgotten about her and didn't care anymore, and she wanted so badly to be a part of their lives again.
Finally, she turned her eyes to Judah and stood in front of him. He was more of an unknown to her, so she didn't reach out to hug him right away. "It was good to see you again," she said softly.

When Emelia didn't hug him right away, Judah felt a twinge of pain. He didn't know why she didn't hug him, but he initated the hug. Judah held his arms out and hugged Emelia. "It was good to see you again too Em," he said. He even pressed a kiss to her temple. "I'll be seeing you in the near future. After all, we have a lot of catching up to do."
The way she at first seemed a little unsure, made him dislike Blake even more. Emelia used to be nothing like this. She used to be sure of herself. If she ever got the letters he sent, Judah did make attempts to see her way before now. He didn't want to go over to her house with Blake there, however now, Judah didn't care either way. He was going to go visit, Blake home or not.

Emelia just nodded, knowing fully well that she wouldn't be seeing Judah like he said. All the same, she replied, "I look forward to it."
And she gave him a soft smile before turning to her boys. "Noah, Axel, say goodbye. We have to hurry if we're going to catch our Portkey."
She was good at being their mother at least, if nothing else.

Blake was pleased that she didn't try to linger. He had feared that once she was around her brothers again, some of her rebellious nature would resurface. Thankfully, it did not.
"Yes, boys, let's get moving," Blake said. Looking around the room, he smiled coldly. "Thanks again for having us. We really had a lovely time. It was quite enjoyable."
He shot a look at Roland, his eyebrows raised, almost daring him to say something. "I have a feeling we'll all be seeing a lot more of each other very soon."
His tone was almost ominous.

"I doubt it," Axel whispered to Ama as they finished off thier dessert. He said goodbye to his other cousins and aunt and uncles he barely had the oppurtunity to meet. Then he watched painfully as his mother said goodbye to her brothers. Knowing Blake, though they promised to keep in touch, it was likely they wouldn't, and the thought of how miserable that would make his mother made Axel's stomach tighten.
After his goodbyes, Axel strode over to his mother's side and leaned against her slightly, looking up and smiling at her.

Blake smiled coldly as he wrapped his arm around his wife's waist and pressed a kiss to her cheek. "Come along, dear," he said in a patronizing tone. He led her to the front door, with the boys trailing behind. "It was so good to see you all again," he said in a tone that clearly indicated the exact opposite. "Goodbye, and have a lovely holiday."
And with that, they were out the door.

Cara seemed to let out a long breath when the Malfoys left. The air in the room suddenly seemed more breathable, and she wasn't as tense, even with Roland and her arguement still on her mind.
"I really don't like him," she said softly, not caring who heard.

"Me neither," Ama voiced, a little louder than her mother had. She felt horrible for Axel and Noah, who had to deal with THAT as a father, and she was suddenly very thankful for the family she had. She got up from her chair and walked over to her dad and hugged him tight.

Mathieu hugged his daughter tightly. "I've never liked that man," he said darkly. "But Emelia loved him so much... so completely, I couldn't convince her that he was bad news. I think he knows I've never liked him, and that's why he's kept her away from us for so long. She's just... she's not the same person anymore. She's like a shadow... and I let it happen."

With the Montgomerys and the Malfoys gone, the table seemed more intimate all of a sudden.
Riley locked eyes with Scarlette, who looked as uncomfortable and Riley felt right then, and she smiled softly at the girl before she leaned in to whisper in Roland's ear. "I don't think I should be here for this... I should go."

Roland was extremely tense as the family all began to admit how much they disliked Blake. One word from him, and they would all know just how bad he really was. What was to stop him from telling them? Blake was no longer here. But he was feeling very confused and frightened at that moment, and wasn't sure what the consequences would be of telling them all about his uncle and what he'd done. Jamie and Amandine, in particular, had no idea that Roland had almost been killed, much less that it had been by the very man who had just walked out the door.
When Riley whispered to him that she wanted to leave, he turned to her, his eyes still wide. But he felt relieved. Riley could be his out, and he could tell her when they got to his apartment.
He nodded. "I'll take you home," he whispered back.

She almost said no, that she could make it fine on her own, but the look in his eyes stopped her and she nodded. "All right."
Besides, he said he wanted to talk to her, right? And she could give him a piece of her mind for being such a jerk when Blake was talking to him. Or maybe she would just let it all go and say good night.
She pushed her chair back and stood up. "Mr and Mrs Ferrera, thank you very much for having me tonight, but I'm afraid I should be getting home."

Roland also stood up. "Yeah, I'm going to head home, too," he said lightly. "Everything was great, as usual, Mum. It's just been a long night, and I need to get some rest. Although, do you suppose I could get a leftover package? Especially the potatoes?"
He gave his mother a slight smile, knowing that she would never pass up the chance to send him home with a large quantity of food.

"Of course," Cara said, getting to her feet again and heading towards the kitchen. She didn't bother to pull Roland along. He'd come if he wanted to.
But she did put a friendly hand on Riley's arm and guided her towards the kitchen.
"I am so sorry tonight was so chaotic, Rily, dear. It's usually not this... well. Chaotic."

RIley glanced at Roland before following Cara.
"Please don't apologize. I think it's a rule that family get togethers have to be a bit chaotic. It brightens things up, doesn't it?"
She watched as Cara started filling a few tupperwares, and then, without even asking, she took a couple tupperwares herself and started putting some of the desserts that she knew Roland liked in them.

Cara smiled, but said nothing. She rather liked Riley. With the girl's help, they put quite a lot of leftovers in a bag for Roland, and it was in Riley's hands when they came out of the kitchen.
"Be safe going home," she said, even though it was just an apparation, and she pulled Roland into her arms. "I'm sorry," she whispered.
Then she let him go and thanked Riley again for coming, watching the two get ready to leave.

Roland had spent the time while his mother and Riley were in the kitchen saying goodbye to the rest of his family. He had given Amandine a hug, and said goodbye to the rest. He hoped Cyrus would follow his lead and take Lina and Mara home as well, as Lina was looking a bit uncomfortable.
When they came back, his mother wrapped her arms around him and held him tight. "I'm sorry, too," he whispered.
Having said all of his goodbyes for the evening, Roland led Riley out the front door.

As the rest of the family seemed to be leaving, Cyrus actually got the notation that he should go to. He didn't really want Lina nor Mara to hear about his uncle Blake. The atmosphere seemed a little uncomfortable and the expression on Lina's face held the answer he needed. Clearing his throat, Cyrus stood up from the table. "I believe that me, Lina, and Mara need to be heading home too. We need to put Mara down."
He walked over to Lina's side of the table and offered to help her from her chair, if she wanted his help. "We'll see you soon mum, dad. Behave Ama and Jamie." He gave his siblings a grin and the turned back to his mother. "Dinner was great, as usual."

Lina took his help, especially since she still had Mara in her arms. She hated what was between her and Cyrus now, this relationship that just felt like they were friends. It wasn't enough for her, and it was heartbreaking.
She smiled sweetly at Cara though. "Dinner was wonderful. Thank you."
Cara met her eyes, but the two shared no more words, and Lina nodded, following Cyrus out.
