Riley didn't usually go out for drinks unless a friend, namely Geoffrey, convinced her to. Today was no different.
She was at The Three Broomsticks looking for a bottle of wine that she could take the Ferreras' for Christmas. She didn't feel like making anything, and she had a feeling that Cara cooked enough for an army. Of course, the way it sounded, there would be an entire army there.
The Three Broomsticks had a wall in the back of bottles, and she was looking them over, keeping an ear out to the quiet murmur of the customers in the front.

Fabian knew the best place to buy wine in town and it happened to be the place he loved to grab a butterbeer. It was his time off and Gideon was somewhere doing something or another, and Molly was working. That left Fabian on his own.
He headed into the Three Broomsticks and ordered a Butterbeer after accidently hitting his watch on the bar. It didn't faze Fabian if he hit something anymore. Once he had his mug of butterbeer, he was walking toward the back to his usual seat when someone caught his eye. He smiled and walked up behind her. "The best stuff is the bottle in the upper left corner."

Riley was drawn out of her concentration by the voice, and she looked over her shoulder. She smiled half a second later.
"Fabian," she said in greeting. She knew him from the Department, knew that he was close to her age... and she knew that he was a very good Auror. Granted, all Aurors had to go through the tests and the training, so there wasn't really such a thing as a bad Auror, but there were some who were very good at what they did.
She looked towards the bottle he pointed out. "Figures that it's the highest one up... would you mind?" She asked, knowing she probably end up breaking a few bottles if she tried reaching for it herself. Using a spell actually hadn't occurred to her.

"Hey Riley," he said grinning. Fabian made it a point to attempt to remember Auror's names. "
"Of course the best stuff is up higher. It's so most people can't reach it and they can keep it in stock." He laughed. Fabian moved to the other side of her and effortlessly reached up and got a bottle. "I love this stuff. I'm almost out of it." He handed her the bottle. "Going to a party, or just getting drunk to drink away some dark hidden secret?"

Riley laughed quietly. "A little of both, perhaps." If it got bad enough, she could always keep the wine nearby at the Christmas dinner. "I was invited to a Christmas dinner, and assured that I didn't need to bring anything, but I still feel like I should."
She took the bottle from him and thanked him for getting it as she looked at the lable. "I've never had this before, so I'm going to take your word on it. I hope you don't let me down," she teased.

"Well, wine is always the best choice," Fabian said. "Besides if it's a Christmas dinner that you're dreading, I'm sure that it will make it all the better." He still had his butterbeer in hand, almost forgetting about it until he noticed it was there. Taking a drink out of it, he peered over the glass at Riley. "I won't let you down. I make sure that I get the good stuff. Who wants poor tasting wine?" Fabian gave her a wink.
"Care to join me for a couple of butterbeers, or something stronger?"

Riley smiled. "I never said I was dreading it," she told him. "But you assumed correctly." Actually, she was half looking forward to it, of only to make Roland uncomfortable. It was payback for all the gief he was giving her.
She glanced at her watched and was halfway to turning him down politely when she had to really consider why. She had nowhere to be.
"Sure," she said, nodding. "Just let me pay for this wine and get a butterbeer, and I'll be right back."

"Well, maybe it won't be as bad as you think," Fabian said shrugging. He attempted to look at the better side of things when it was possible.
"Great. I'll be at that table over there by the wall." He motioned to the table with the hand that held his glass. "Don't keep me waiting too long, I might cry if you stand me up," Fabian teased with a smile.
He followed her from the back and headed straight for his usual table.

Riley smiled and nodded. "All right. I'll only keep you waiting a little bit, then," she replied.
She headed up to the front, laying a few coins on the counter to pay for the wine and a glass of butterbeer. He was from the Department. They could talk work, right? She shook her head, laughing at herself. Merlin, she needed to get out more.
With wine and butterbeer in hand, she made her way to the table he pointed out, and sat down across from him. "Your day off, I take it?"

Fabian made himself comfortable in his chair as he relaxed. This would be the first time he would have someone join him, other than Gideon of course.
He grinned whenever Riley returned. "I know you couldn't resist being without me," he teased. "Yes, it is my day off. It feels odd though. I'm used to sitting in my office and possibly messing with my brother." Fabian took another drink. "Enjoying your day off?"

Riley realized then that he made her smile quite a bit. He was easy going, and she liked that a lot. It made her feel a little less guarded, and after her week, Merlin knew she needed it.
"It's only a half day off, actually, but yes. It's been nice, and quiet finally." She took a sip of her butterbeer. "Your brother... right! He's a twin, isn't he? Works in a different Department? I think I've met him once or twice."

"Quiet is usually nice after a hectic week, even if you do have half the day off." Fabian glanced Riley over. If he remembered correctly, Riley was a workaholic, much like he could be whenever it was time.
"Yes, Gideon is my twin. He's the head of the Department of Magical Transportation. You probably have met him." Fabian smiled. "But don't let him get you to think that he's better," he said jokingly.

"I would never believe that," Riley returned. "Afterall, he's never helped me pick out a wine, and that automatically puts you at number one on my list."
It had been a hectic week, and she wanted to scream now that it was finally over. She and Roland had gone through so many ups and downs she honestly was surprised Angelique was so intent on keeping them together.
"So, Fabian, was your week as hectic as mine?"

"I knew I liked you," he said grinning again.
Fabian vaguely remembered that Riley was partnered with, he wanted to say, Roland. He knew of Roland's style and attitude from what he noticed every once in awhile, and what someone else had mentioned.
"It probably wasn't as hectic as yours. I can tell by your face that your week has been crazy. My week was actually almost smooth like."

Riley frowned slightly when he told her he could tell what her week had been like. Riley could look ten years younger when she let go of the stress from work that was self imposed, and she forgot most the time that really, she was still a kid.
She shrugged. "Yeah, well, the week is over, right? A brand new one starts now, and maybe we'll both have smooth sailing. I know I was the one that brought it up, but why don't we talk about anything but work?"

"That's true. Maybe we can start the new week off right with something more entertaining that will make the week smooth sailing. And not talking about work can be one of them." Fabian raised his glass slightly to her and then took another drink. He could talk about work, but way put a damper on a good moment?
"You know, even though we've worked in the same place, I've never really had the chance to talk to you. You seem like you're pretty nice. After all, you haven't yelled at me yet, nor did you slap me whenever I came up behind you."

"I like to think I'm nice," Riley said, laughing slightly. "Though to be fair and play devil's advocate, I know someone who would tell you I'm a right evil snob." She shrugged. "I guess it just depends if I like you. And I very much like you so far," she added the last part with a somewhat coy smile. Fabian, so far, was a sweetheart and she did like him. He didn't make any rude presumptions about her, and he invited her for a drink. It was nice.
"I actually appreciated your input over there with the wine. I would have been staring at the bottles for the rest of the day without your help."

"I probably wouldn't believe them if they told me that," Fabian said smiling. "You an evil snob? I can't really see that. I could maybe see the evil part if you were angry though." He gave a playful look. "Oh, someone likes me. I'm not sure if you should have told me that or not, because now I could just show up everywhere and you just happen to be there," he said winking.
"And if it makes you feel good, I like you too. Oh, and the picking out the wine was nothing. I blame the barmaid for getting me hooked on it. I came in here once, looking for wine, because we were having a family get together and I like to keep at least one bottle of some kind of drink in my cabinets. She came back there and recommended that stuff to me and I've bought it ever since."

Riley smiled when he said he liked her too, and she couldn't help but think to herself that she wouldn't mind if she ran into him again, accidentally or not. He was such a change from Roland... easy to talk to, friendly, nice. It was refreshing after her week.
She laughed slightly. "Oh, I can be evil, you're right. You don't ever really want to make a girl mad... we're all kind of evil when we need to be."
She took another sip of drink. "You must have been helped by a different barmaid. Or she thought you were cute, because the barmaid today was very little help. She just sort of pointed me towards the back, where you found me."

"Oh, I do know that. My sister gets downright nasty when she gets angry. Kind of scares me a bit and I don't really scare that easy," Fabian said seriously. "Once Molly gets going, it's sometimes hard to make her stop, even if you're not the one she's angry with." He shuttered at the thought of Molly getting mad. She was like a mother sometimes.
"It was the same barmaid actually. I'm not sure whatever reason she helped me, but I'm glad that I could have been the one to help you." Fabian grinned. "Is the reason you let me help you and took my advice because you think I'm cute," he teased. Fabian was just joking with her.
