Business was slow at the moment, but it usually picked up later in the evening so this wasn't anything new for the Rusty Nail. Lexi had two customers who had come together and were keeping each other very entertained and encouraging themselves to drink themselves stupid. Lexi didn't mind this, she got tips and it gave her something to do besides clean down the bar and the tables. She hated doing that and put it off as often as possible.
Lexi had been working at the Rusty Nail now for a few years, not moving up in position but not minding either. She enjoyed her position in life and didn't see the need to change that for a few more coins in her pocket. When first looking for a job Lexi had not considered tending bar, but when she was in Knockturn Alley on a shopping trip she noticed the Help Wanter sign in the grubby window and applied right then and there. The interview was very informal and lasted only ten minutes before she was offered the job. It only took her a week to learn how to make every drink offered, and a few that weren't. Lexi had always been a quick study, but never cared to excell in her schoolwork. She seemed to be the only one.
Her younger brother Gage was currently in school, sorted into Ravenclaw for his quick thinking and thirst for knowledge. And the twins were still too young for school but she could tell they were going to go places. Literally. They were everywhere! And Logan...well Lexi ddin't like to think about Logan if she could help it. Putting it nicely, Logan wasn't her favorite.

Justin didn't often come to the Rusty Nail. It was generally a disreputable place, and as a Scotts, it was still important to keep up appearances. Still, it was the kind of place you would go when you didn't want to be found. And that was how Justin was feeling right about now.
His family was in a shambles. Gwen was engaged against her will to a man she didn't like. Timothy was apparently dating a mudblood. And Uncle Zach had come back into town, pregnant girlfriend and a mountain of debt in tow.
Justin just wanted to get away from it all. So he sat down at the bar and glanced up at the pretty blonde barmaid. "I'll have a firewhiskey," he said.

Lexi heard the door open and watched the man walk to the bar. He ordered a drink and she nodded. "Sure thing." She turned her back on him and retrieved a bottle of Ogden's Old Firewhiskey for him. "That'll be four sickles, six knuts," she said as she slid him the bottle. She leaned on the bar with her chin in her hand.

Justin was tempted to tell her to put it on his tab, since he intended to be here for a while. At least until he was drunk enough to not care about the atmosphere. But instead, he reached in his pocket and pulled out a handful of coins. He counted out the correct amount and placed them on the bar right in front of her.
"Thank you."
As he loooked at her, a number of thoughts ran through his mind. Most of them were definitely not PG-13. The only one that could be repeated was, what was a girl who looked like that was doing in a place like this?

She waited while he fished around in his pockets and came up with the money. He looked as though he was thinking something but, with the crowd that usually came in here, Lexi wasn't about to ask what it was. Instead she simply picked up the coins, counted them in front of him, and then gave him a smile as she turned to drop the money into the register. As she turned back to him she said, "let me know if you need anything else." She leaned against the back counter, her arms folded over her abdomen, and looked at him more closely.
She wasn't outwardly friendly at work as most of the customers didn't appreciate it. But she figured a few neutral comments wouldn't kill him, as he looked a bit more upscale than the usual clientele. And somewhat familiar, though she couldn't place him. So it wasn't some corny line when she asked, "Do I know you from somewhere?"

Justin looked up at the barmaid and smiled slightly. "Shouldn't I be the one saying the cheesy pickup lines?" he teased.
He took a sip from his drink, and, before she could answer, he continued, "If I do look familiar, it's because my family is rather popular with the gossip rags these days. I'm Justin Scotts."
Slowly, he swept his eyes up and down, surveying as much of her figure as he could see from in front of the bar. She was a tall girl, and very attractive. Not a stick, like so many others these days... she had curves.
"And how is it I've never met you before?"

Lexi laughed a little, having heard that line herself once or twice in her time. But she was glad he had actually answered the question instead of assuming she was hitting on him, she hated knowing something but not being able to figure it out. "Scotts..." She ran the name over in her head, and he was right. She had heard of him from the papers, and seen his pictures too.
"You're not very lucky I guess," she replied. If he came to the Rusty Nail even a few times they would have met already. She didn't work all the time, but her shifts changed constantly and she knew of all the regulars. People came here to drink without being seen, but Lexi saw them all. She would be the perfect person to identify anyone arrested for shady doings.

Justin chuckled. "I'll say," he said. "I hardly ever come here, but usually when I do, the only bartender I get is a short, fat, old man with an eye patch. If I had known you worked here, I think I might have made an effort to stop by a little more often."
He gave her a smile, then took a sip from his drink. "So, it seems you have me at a disadvantage. You now know my name, but I don't know yours."

"That's Richard. He's an ass." She laughed a little and smiled at his compliment. This wasn't the first time someone had said something like that to her while working here, but it was the first time someone attractive had said it. She usually didn't get too many good looking customers here so she did not mind this comment.
Normally she would give a smart comment about liking that disadvantage, but she didn't mind him much. So far he seemed fairly normal. "Lexi Oliver," she replied, nodding at another customer that had come in and sat at the other end of the bar. She left Justin to tend to the new bloke who just wanted an ale, then came back over to Justin. He was nicer to look at.

Justin found her laughter infectious. "Yes, I agree. He is an ass. It's nice to meet you, Lexi."
He watched her silently over the edge of his glass while she went to serve the other customer. She moved with confidence and grace, like someone who was comfortable with her own body. He also noticed that she did not give the new customer the same kind of smile she had given him. This was a good sign.
When she returned, he smiled again. "Is this place always so dead? Or do you have to break up fights?"

"Fights are a regular occurrence here. But its early still. This place doesn't really get busy until later. So I wont really have much to do for a while." Lexi reached beneath the counter and grabbed an old rag that she used to wipe down the counters. It was dirty and probably made more of a mess than it cleaned up, but she didn't care too much about tidiness. She just wiped down the counter where a previous customer had spilled something sticky and tossed the rag back under the counter.
"So, what does a rich bloke like you do? I'm sure tending bar is out of the question for a Scotts."

Justin didn't answer for a minute. Instead, he observed her and her casual pretense at cleaning the counter. Obviously, she wasn't cleaning anything, not with that dirty rag. But did the customers of this place actually even care if anything was clean?
It was fairly obvious to him that she was only coming up with an excuse to stand there and talk to him. And he was OK with that. There certainly wasn't anyone else in the place that was worth talking to.
But on to the question--what did he do? Well, the simple answer was nothing. But that wasn't exactly true, was it? He worked for the Dark Lord. But he couldn't very well say that, not without knowing what her loyalties were. "Well, I guess you could say, I do a little of this and a little of that," he said with a chuckle. "I have the luxury of not needing to work, so I do whatever strikes me at the time, to keep myself busy. Odd jobs and such. Nothing terribly exciting, but it keeps me off the streets, so to speak. Most of the time, anyway."

Not needing to work and being able to do whatever she wished, that would be wonderful. But she also enjoyed her position here at the bar and she wouldn't trade it for anything. She loved having free reign of the place when her boss wasn't here, which was often. She loved all the strange customers that came in. And she especially loved the fact that her parents hated that she worked here. No, she wasn't envious of Justin at all.
"So you just do whatever you want, whenever you want. That sounds terribly dull," she teased. She leaned her back against the register, bracing herself with her hands on the counter near her waist.

Justin considered that. His work with the Dark Lord kept him busy most of the time, and he certainly wouldn't call that dull. But he couldn't exactly talk about that.
"Well, I suppose it can be at times," he replied. "But don't cry for me. Like I said... I keep myself busy... with both business and pleasure."
Taking a sip of his drink, he added, "The good news is, I have plenty of free time for pleasure."

"Do you? Interesting..." Lexi smiled before another customer entering caught her eye. She sighed then headed over to take their order. It was an older wizard that came in quite regularly and made dirty remarks to her. She ignored him for the most part but she would be let go if she didn't serve him drinks. She did so with less enthusiasm than she ever did anything in her life. She would rather have talked to her brother Logan for a week straight, but she wouldn't give her parents the satisfaction of knowing she no longer worked at the Rusty Nail. She gave the man an ale and then returned to more pleasant company.

Justin again watched her with the new customer. It was interesting, to see her with different customers. He could see that the way she was treating him was not the way she treated all her customers, and that was good. Of course, he was also probably the youngest customer in the place by at least 20 years...
Still, he noticed the way she seemed very unenthusiastic about serving the latest customer. He was quite old, and, judging by the lecherous stare he fixed on Lexi, he was a slimeball. Not that one would expect to find a prince in such a place. Justin may have been preferable to the likes of the old wizard, but he was certainly no prince.
When she returned, he smiled at her. "So, want me to start the first barfight of the evening? I could probably kick that guy's arse into next Tuesday, if you want."

Lexi giggled. "Oh no. He's always like that, there's nothing to be done about it. Besides, I'm off soon and I would feel obligated to hang around and watch his sorry ass get whaled on." She had no plans to stay after at the bar when she wasn't getting paid. She didn't dislike the place, but after being there all day the last thing she wanted was to just sit around.

Justin was still a little annoyed by the sleazy guy, but since she told him to back off, he would. But something else that she said caught his attention, and he raised an eyebrow at her. "Oh, really?" he said, a slow grin spreading across his face. "You're off soon? I don't think I'll want to stay here, if you're not going to be here. And the night is young... How about we do something together? Where do you like to go for fun?"

Lexi smiled at him, she had been expecting something like this but she didn't mind. "Sure. I usually just head home after work but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to stay out a little later. How do you feel about Enchanted?" Lexi liked to dance though she wasn't very good at it. Grace was not a quality she possessed often but when the music started she didn't care.

Justin finished off the last of his drink and set the empty glass down on the counter. He wasn't a great dancer, but he wasn't horrible, either. He was just good enough not to make a complete arse of himself. And he had a feeling that he'd have a good time going there with Lexi. She seemed fun and adventurous.
"Enchanted sounds great," he said. "I haven't been there yet, actually. But I've heard good things about it. Do you go there often?"
