Paige shrugged. "My parents are OK, I guess. They hate Chloe, so that makes them a little better in my book. Of course, they used to love her, until... well, let's just say Chloe didn't turn out the way they wanted her to. But then... neither did I. Chloe was supposed to marry this guy... when she wouldn't, they tried to get him to marry me instead. But he didn't want to. He only wanted Chloe. So I ran off to be a dancer. They still talk to me, but they're not happy with me."

Austin didn't understand why Paige could hate her sister, but he wasn't going to push it. "Well, if it means anything, I'm happy with you. I mean, you've gone out and done what you've wanted and didn't let anything stop you. Even though you went from dancing to working for the Daily Prophet, you went for it." He didn't mention her sleeping with the guy for the job.
"I think you're doing alright for yourself."

Paige found herself smiling. The way he put it, she sounded almost admirable. Instead of a spoiled princess who got most of what she wanted in life by lying or scheming or sleeping with someone, she simply sounded like a strong, determined, independent woman. She wondered how pleased with her he would be if he knew about some of the things she had done in the past.
But having him believe in her made her want to be a better person. To be the person he thought she was. It was a strange, unfamiliar feeling.
"Thank you," she said. "Listen... you want to get out of here?"

He didn't really care what she did in the past all that much, because it was now that counted. Right? Throughout their conversation, Austin did eat a few bites of his food. When Paige mentioned getting out of there, he looked at her curiously. "I suppose we can. I don't have anything else to do." Austin gave her a wide smile and put down his silverware. He put money on the table, knowing what he was going to be exactly, and he added in more for Paige's as well as a tip.
"Alright Ms. Owen," he said respectfully and with an exaggerated bow, "shall we go?" Austin offered her his arm as he stood beside her.

Paige smiled. "You're such a gentleman," she said, slipping her arm into his. "Not many of those around anymore. I can't say I've known very many."
Most guys only wanted one thing from her. Even the nice ones usually wanted it. Maybe it was a vibe she put out there. And in truth, she didn't usually mind it. Even now, she was sort of expecting that she and Austin would end up in bed together... and then he'd be gone. She was used to it, but it didn't mean that it didn't hurt, just a little bit. "So," she said, turning to him, "where do you think you want to go? We could go to my place, or yours..."

"Well, I do try," he said smiling.
Austin figured out what she meant by his place or hers. Quite honestly, he wasn't into the one night stand and that be the end of it. He had done it a once or twice, but he stopped because the more he thought about it the more he only wanted an actual relationship.
"We can go to my place for a little bit. Maybe I could play a song for you," he said trying to make it clear that he wasn't going to just sleep with her. Austin saw more from Paige than just someone that was practically offering herself to him. If she tried to go for it, he was going to stop her because he wasn't that type of guy.

"I would love to hear you play a song," Paige said, flashing her most charming smile.
She wasn't entirely sure what she wanted from Austin. She liked him, and she found him interesting. They had a nice, flirty energy between them, and it intrigued her. She was expecting a one night stand... but she wasn't entirely sure that was what she wanted. She was willing to see if this led anywhere.
Paige didn't have a problem with relationships. She'd been in more than a few in her past. And she'd had more than a few one night stands, too. To put it planly, Paige was easy. And no one had ever said no to her when she decided she wanted someone.
"Your place it is."

"Well, consider this your lucky day," he said with a laugh. "I don't invite people to my apartment let alone invite them over to play them a song." The last person to be in his apartment other than himself was probably his mother when she stopped by for a visit the previous week.
In his mind he ran through what his apartment looked like this morning. It looked lived in, that was for sure, but clothes were put away like that were supposed to. His kitchen was clean except for his cup that remained in the sink. His living room was a little bit of a mess. He had a few records and music books lying about.
Austin led her down the streets of Hogsmeade. "I hope you don't mind a little bit of a mess. I know where everything is and if I clean it up real well, I'll forget."

Paige didn't really care what his place looked like. She had seen the insides of lots of guys' apartments. Some were messy, some were obsessively neat. Honestly, for the most part, she liked to see the ones that looked lived in, but not torn apart. There were a few places that had been so bad that they had turned her off, including the one guy who had cockroaches walking around his apartment over piles of trash. But for the most part, she was pretty easygoing about the state of a guy's place.
"I'm sure it's just fine," she replied.

At least Paige didn't seem to be one of those girls that preferred everything clean. Austin liked a clean house, but he perfered for it to look like someone actually lived there.
"Well, we're almost there," he noted. If she didn't really mind what his place looked like, neither was he.
Arriving at his apartment, Austin pulled out his keys and unlocked his door. The living room could be seen from the kitchen and he saw that his guitar was laying on the couch along with a notebook. Records were layed out on the coffee table, but his kitchen was completely clean. He moved out of the way so that Paige could walk through. "After you," Austin said motioning for her to go ahead in.

Paige made her way into his apartment and looked around. She had seen neater places, but she'd also seen messier ones. At least his looked to be bug-free. That was important to Paige. Bugs were a deal-breaker.
"Not bad," she said, turning to him with a smile. "You live here all alone? Do the neighbors mind you playing the guitar?" she added as her eyes fell on the instrument that was lying across the couch, preventing her from sitting.

"I do live here all alone," he said. Noticing that the only place to really sit was the couch, Austin walked into the living room. He picked up his guitar and put it on the stand that was beside the television. "No, they don't really mind, however I do use a sliencing charm whenever I know they are home so that I won't disturb them. The last thing I want is someone knocking on my door and tell me to quit playing because I'm playing too loud."
He gave her a sheepishly look then motioned toward the couch. "You can have a seat. Do you want anything to drink or anything before I sit down?"

Paige smiled. Austin was considerate of others. It was sweet, really. She could picture him sitting alone in his apartment, playing his guitar with a silencing charm so as not to disturb the neighbors.
Moving over to the couch, she sat down and looked up at him. "Do you have any wine?" she asked. "I am a bit parched."

"Erm, I think I have a little bit," he said. "I'll be right back." Austin gave her a smile and then disappeared into the kitchen. He grabbed two glasses and poured Paige a bit of wine in her glass, then poured water into his own.
Carefully carrying the glasses back into the living room, he handed Paige hers before taking a seat next to her. "There you go." He smiled again and sat relaxed on the couch. "I hope its to your liking."

Paige eyed him strangely as she took a sip of her wine. "You're not drinking," she said. "You're not planning to get me filthy drunk while you stay perfectly sober and lucid, are you?"
She was teasing, of course, and her expression made that pretty clear. But she had actually been in that sort of situation before, and it wasn't exactly funny. But Austin didn't seem like the type, so she wasn't really worried.

He let out a laugh. "No, no," Austin shaking his head. "I don't really drink often. That doesn't mean that I don't go to bars or clubs for a drink every once in awhile, but I just don't see the use in getting extremely drunk. Not to say that I haven't done that before. Once was enough." He smiled.
"And don't worry, I would never take advantage of you. Cross my heart."

He had to be too good to be true. Guys just weren't that...wholesome. At least, not guys who looked like him. The dangerous edge he had to him was really just an image, and deep down he was an absolute boy scout. He reminded her of another man she'd met once and still had fond memories of.
Smiling coyly at him, she said, "Maybe I want to take advantage of you."

Austin almost laughed again. "I couldn't let you do that," he said. He didn't just want to sleep with Paige. Naturally, Austin would be a hypocrite if he said that he didn't believe in one night stands, because he had done them before. But there was something about Paige that made him not want to. He didn't want her to just disappear because she seemed refreshing compared to the girls that just wanted him because he played music.

Paige was confused. She wasn't used to guys turning her down. She was beautiful, and she knew it. And if this guy didn't want her for sex, then what did he want?
She'd had a few "relationships" before. But she put the term in quotes in her mind, because she knew for a fact that, even then, the guys were only using her. And she had mostly been using them, as well. In her case, it was usually for something else--position, attention, protection, or to fight loneliness. But she'd never been in love, and she'd never been loved. She wasn't entirely sure she believed in it.
So the idea that he might be looking at her with that kind of thought in mind was not even something she considered. In her mind, if he didn't want to sleep with her, it must have meant there was something wrong with her.
"And why not?" she asked, turning her wide brown eyes to his. "Don't you think I'm pretty?"

"Of course I think you're pretty," said Austin. "Although, just because I think you're pretty doesn't mean I want to just sleep with you. And don't think anything is wrong with you, because its not." He wanted to make sure that she knew that he wasn't turning her down because something might have been wrong with her. There wasn't anything wrong with her. Austin thought she was pretty much perfect, but that didn't mean that he was going to just take advantage.
"Its just, I'm not really the type to just sleep with girls. I don't really see the desire to just get what you think you really need from someone else and let it go after that. I'm not really that kind of guy. I've seen and known a few guys like that, and they can be like that their entire life but I don't want to be them."
